Review – The Game Plan by Kristen Callihan

TGP AmazonThe Game Plan by Kristen Callihan

A beard-related dare and one hot-as-hell kiss changes everything.NFL center Ethan Dexter’s focus has always been on playing football and little else. Except when it comes to one particular woman. The lovely Fiona Mackenzie might not care about his fame, but she’s also never looked at him as anything more than one of her brother-in-law’s best friends. That ends now.
Fi doesn’t know what to make of Dex. The bearded, tattooed, mountain of man-muscle looks more like a biker than a football player. Rumor has it he’s a virgin, but she finds that hard to believe. Because from the moment he decides to turn his quiet intensity on her she’s left weak at the knees and aching to see his famous control fully unleashed.Dex is looking for a forever girl, but they live vastly different lives in separate cities.
Fi ought to guard her heart and walk away. But Dex has upped his game and is using all his considerable charm to convince Fi he’s her forever man. Game On.

Ahhh, Dex! I am absolutely in LOVE with Ethan Dexter! He’s tall, rugged, bearded, handsome, smart, soulful, artistic and brooding. Dex is a fantastic alpha-hero, with a sensitive side. Dex cherishes his privacy and his friendships. He keeps most of his life and the multiple facets of his personality hidden from the world. But, no one knows Ethan Dexter like Fiona Mackenzie. And Fi is his perfect match; short, sweet, sensitive, emotional and tremendously loyal.

When Fi finds out that Dex has been carrying a torch for her for years, a passionate spark is ignited and it is oh so fun to watch the relationship unfold. Dex’s woo-ing of Fi is hot, hot, hot!

The locker room banter and sports aspect of the Game Plan and the entire Game On series feels authentic and real. The relationships and the dialogue are well written. I have enjoyed the Game On series so much! Dex and Fi join Gray and Ivy and Drew and Anna in a wonderful gang of happy couples. I hope there will be more to come in this series, but either way, I know that I’ll definitely read more books by Kristen Callihan!

BFF K’s Review for Reclaim Me

rating_5_80

I really really really want to tell you how this series ends. I’ve been holding it in for so long, I’m about to burst with excitement to dish with someone! But, let me just say, I couldn’t be any happier with this ending….

Hudson Chase had always feared that his past would be his downfall. He’s spent years working tirelessly to outrun his youth and create a whole new world in which he would be the victor. He would be powerful. Hudson Chase would be in control of his future. And, his idea of the future has always included Allie Sinclair.

Now that Hudson has had a glimpse of what his future with Allie could be; he refuses to settle for anything less. But, protecting those you love can be a difficult task when the skeletons start to spill out of your closet. Hudson is a fixer. He is certainly not accustomed to allowing others to fight his battles. Allie wants nothing more than to save Hudson; even if it’s from himself. This book finds Hudson and Allie torn apart, but they’re also together. They are united to defeat a common enemy. And, they’re both willing to sacrifice their own future and their own happiness for the other.

The Chasing Fire series has it ALL: romance, angst, steam, adventure, more steam, plot twists, a kick-ass hero, an smarmy villain, a deserving heroine and inspiring LOVE!

Hudson and Allie join my short list of perfectly-imperfect romance couples. This list includes: Christian and Ana, Gideon and Eva, Colton and Rylee, Edward and Bella, and you get the idea…..This is a series that I know I will read again. I’ve highlighted whole pages and I get all butterfly-filled just skimming over my favorite parts. The Chasing Fire series has become one of my go-to recommendations for an steamy romance and a perfect follow-up to Fifty Shades of Grey!

And, please come find me as soon as you’ve finished the series – I’ll be here on the blog, on Facebook or Twitter….we need to talk! Excerpt

Allie bent to tuck her phone into the carry-on stowed beneath the seat in front of her. A shiver of awareness swept over her skin and she stilled. Hudson. She felt his presence just as surely as if he’d touched her. But despite the brief moment she took to prepare herself, the sight of him still took her breath away. He was standing in the aisle, the muscles of his chest and arms flexing as he shrugged out of his wool coat and handed it to the flight attendant. His hair was damp, no doubt from the snow falling outside, and when he reached up to run his hand through the unruly mane, his sweater rode up, affording her a glimpse of his honed washboard abs and the trail of dark hair that disappeared beneath his belt.

He glanced down and caught her staring. “See something you like?”

She ignored his obvious innuendo, choosing instead to address the much bigger issue. “What are you doing here?”

“Going after what’s mine.”

Welcome back to Brightwater! Lia Riley has created a wonderful fictional town full of quirky, delightful people and Quinn and Wilder are the perfect addition to the cast of characters from the first 2 books. (Best Worst Mistake is a standalone, but the characters in the Brightwater series are interconnected and you should definitely read all 3!)

This story has a Beauty and the Beast feel. Wilder is broken both physically and mentally. He returns to Brightwater with no plans, no hope, no vision for his future. He’s a cranky, damaged, isolated, curmudgeon. Then Quinn blows into his life. She stands up to him refusing to let him hide alone in his cabin. She challenges him. Quinn is almost equally as broken as Wilder, though her scars aren’t visible on the surface. Through her cracks shines light and hope, and she draws Wilder out of his solitary world. Wilder and Quinn have a whirlwind romance. There are secrets and truths about their pasts but they find a way to plow forward together.

Best Worst Mistake is a delightfully romantic story full of terrific characters and sweet sentiments. I have enjoyed all of the Brightwater Series so much that it’s impossible for me to choose a favorite. This is currently intended to be the final book in Brightwater, but I’m hoping that there might be more of these great stories from Lia Riley in the future!

Excerpt

It had been a while since he’d been in the company of any woman who wasn’t a medical professional or intimately involved with his brothers. Also, as much as he didn’t want to admit it, he had a type and this forward, strong-looking woman fit it right down to that thick wavy brown hair pulled back at the nape of her long sexy neck.

Necks were underrated female geography. He loved how they tasted when he kissed them there, how they smelled as he nuzzled.

Equally fascinating was her lush mouth, how the corner remained quirked on one side despite the natural pout, as if in perpetual secret amusement.

This woman was bright, spunky, and happy, despite her father’s miserable situation. His heart sank. He had nothing to offer someone like her, not when his whole world had burned to a cinder.

He shook himself inwardly, not moving a muscle. No point succumbing to the ugly truth, however true. Maybe he could pretend to be a normal guy for the night. Normal except for the scars, the missing leg, and the fact he hadn’t spoken to a living soul since Sawyer dropped off his groceries six days ago, and was tongue-tied around strangers at the best of times.

Shit.

What would Archer do? His younger brother was good with people, especially the ladies. He’d navigate this situation like a pro.

She gave him a tentative smile, probably because he was staring at her like a loon.

Compliments. Women like compliments.

“Your teeth are real white,” Wilder blurted. Goddamn it, the words hung over them like a comic strip balloon. He wished for a string to grab on to, so he could stuff the idiocy back into his mouth, swallow it down.

“Excuse me?” Her shoulders jerked as her lips clamped, clearly not anticipating the awkward flattery.

At least he hadn’t said how much he liked her neck. Yet.

Damn, this was a mistake. He wasn’t good with people. Didn’t like people. Didn’t need people.

Review – Screwball by Linda Morris

Screwball_cover

Passion dominates the diamond in the second novel in this fun and flirty baseball romance series by the author of High Heat. So when sports reporter Willow Bourne, a one-night-stand from a year ago, walks back into his life, he knows he can’t give into his feelings for her—no matter how strong they are. Willow never expected to see Paul again, and she’s got her reasons for keeping her distance. Except the more time she spends around Paul, the harder it is to hide her secrets—or stop herself from falling head over heels. As the sparks between them fly, Paul discovers what Willow has been concealing from him, leaving him with a difficult choice—keep the team his top priority or make his own legacy by following his heart…

Willow Bourne and Paul Dudley have a history. A super-steamy, one night stand changes both of their lives forever. But, only one of them fully realizes that change until they meet by chance a year later. Both Paul and Willow are struggling with significant career issues and major life issues. I thought that their professional issues were believable and added depth and interest to the story. Those details also impacted their personal lives and decisions they made.

I liked Willow and Paul and was definitely invested to see what happened in their story. However, I have a limited amount of patience for problems that are created because characters refuse to communicate openly and honestly. There were times in this story that I wanted to pull my hair out. I wanted to grab both of these characters, shake them and yell, “Just tell him/her the truth! Talk about your issues. End this discomfort!” I wouldn’t consider it angst, but it’s definitely tension filled.

The times that Paul and Willow were together, sharing, getting to know one another and collaborating were really really good. I had butterflies and Paul said some of the sweetest things. (He’s a really good man.) I wish there had been a few more of those times and less communication-induced confusion.

I liked the backdrop of the baseball setting. The scenes and scenarios were interesting and entertaining. I enjoyed the main characters and the supporting characters as well. If you’re looking for a sports-themed, quick read, with interesting characters and some good tension, I can recommend Screwball.

Review – Drowning to Breathe by A.L. Jackson

Drowning to Breathe
A Bleeding Stars Novel, Book 2

The danger in pretending is it becoming real…

Sebastian Stone, Sunder front man and guitarist with a rap sheet about ten miles long, escaped to Savannah, Georgia, to get away from the trouble he’d caused.

Not find more of it.

The moment he saw Shea Bentley, he saw beneath all her sweet and innocence to something that went deeper.

Darker.

Their relationship was built on secrets; their love built on lies.

Sebastian never imagined how deep her secrets went.

When the past and present collide, Sebastian and Shea find themselves fighting for a future neither believed they deserved. Their passion is consuming and their need unending.

Now, holding the truth in his hands, Sebastian is faced with sacrificing everything he’s come to love to protect Shea and his family.

Two pasts intertwined.

Two lives bound.

Will their demons drown them or will Shea and Sebastian finally learn to breathe?

BFF K’s Review

rating_4.5

Drowning to Breathe is the heart-stopping conclusion of Sabastian and Shea’s story that started in A Stone in the Sea. If you haven’t met Baz and Shea, you should buy book #1 immediately; I couldn’t read it fast enough! Book #2 did not disappoint.

Drowning to Breathe picks up right where the previous book left off. And, the cliffhanger from book #1 broke my heart all over again! But, I was soon racing through the pages uncovering layer after layer of this complex story. The lives of these characters are intertwined in ways you can’t even imagine. Their pasts have caused them to build walls that take herculean efforts to tear down. But, the love they have for one another and their commitment to re-building a future together is enough to do it.

Sabastian and Shea are incredible. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I have to say “the Las Vegas weekend” is one of the sweetest, most romantic, perfect book moments ever! Throughout the book, I loved how Shea peeled away the shame and fears from her past to fight for Baz. Their love, the hope of a life together with Kallie, and a future together gives both Shea and Baz the strength to face difficult situations and fight for one another.

The cast of supporting characters in this book is so terrific! I don’t usually highlight the bad guy – but this one was just particularly vile! Martin was an absolute slime-ball, disgusting, horrible villain! I wanted nothing more than to see him loose his holds on Baz and Shea in a fall of epic proportions. I <3 Lyrik, Ash, Zee, Austin, April, Charlie…..I’m anxious for future books in the Bleeding Stars series so that we can check back in and discover more about the lives and loves of all these characters!

A.L. Jackson’s writing style is absolutely poetic. I often found myself stopping mid-page and re-reading because the words and sentences flowed together so beautifully. Drowning to Breathe is a brilliantly crafted love story that delivers an HEA to characters who deserve all the love and happiness imaginable!

My heart slammed around in my chest and my sight narrowed on one singular goal.

Her.

It felt like a lifetime to get to her house, and there was nothing stopping me now. Unlocking her front door, I charged up the stairs. I didn’t pause at her bedroom door. I threw it open. I needed to get to her.

With her back to me, Shea was curled around a pillow on the center of her bed. She startled with the sudden intrusion and jerked up to sitting. Caramel eyes blinked at me through the dim light, confusion and hurt and sorrow.

Motionless, I stood in the doorway as the silence hovered over all our uncertainties.

On all the questions.

But Shea was right.

None of that mattered.

And this was enough.

“Shea.” My voice broke on her name.

I took a step inside and latched the door shut behind me.

Shea’s chin quivered, and she lifted it because I knew this girl wanted to be brave. I knew she was playing through a million scenarios. Mentally going through all the ways I was going to let her go. How I was going to let her down. I knew the words she expected to spill from my mouth because for too long I’d been a coward and a fool, thinking sacrifice was the only way to make this right.

Because every time I turned around, I lost someone I loved.

Not this time.

I swallowed hard. “You want to know what I see when I look at you?”

When the intensity in my voice hit her, Shea choked out a tiny sob.

I took one step closer as I began to speak. “I see someone who’s so fucking sweet and kind that every time I look at her it just about knocks me from my feet, because I’ve had so much bad in my life I don’t know how to stand in her presence. I see someone who I know I don’t deserve, so every time I turn around, I’m runnin’ scared because I’m terrified of ruining everything she is.”

Slowly, I approached her, and she watched me in the shadows. Her hands trembled in her lap as I neared.

“I see someone who deserves the greatest kind of joy.”

Another step closer, and Shea crept toward the side of the bed. She drew a single leg up to her chest. Clinging to it as if it could protect her from any more pain. Everything she felt and wanted and feared was exposed in the expression on her face.

I stopped at the edge of the bed and dropped to my knees.

A small cry escaped her mouth.

Reaching out, I gripped her face in my hands, my fingers burrowing in soft, soft hair.

“I see someone, who even though there’s not a chance in this world I could ever be good enough to have her…good enough to hold her…that’s all I want to do. I see someone I want to protect and love and fight for.”

Tears streamed down her cheeks. She edged even closer and let her legs slip over the side.

I settled myself between her knees and met the storm in her eyes.

“I see beauty and light.”

Those eyes flashed, and emotion crushed my ribs. This girl had me twisted up in every way possible.

Shea gasped when I grabbed her by the waist and pulled her to me. I shifted so I sat on the floor with my back propped against the bed.

Shea was straddling my lap.

Warmth enveloped me. Her heart was pounding, all tucked up against me, right where she belonged.

Her skin felt so soft. Mine lit on fire.

She searched my face and I kept on.

“I see the most fucking gorgeous girl I’ve ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on.” My voice dropped as I leaned up so I could brush my mouth across her ear. “The pleasure to touch.”

A shiver rolled through her, and I gathered one of her hands between us, threading our fingers. I studied them as I struggled to form the words.

I lifted my gaze and spoke with the most honesty I’d ever allowed myself.

“When I look at you, I see a future I never thought existed, Shea.”

Review – Right Wrong Guy by Lia Riley

RIGHT WRONG GUY
Brightwater #2
Lia Riley
Releasing Aug 4th, 2015
Avon Romance
The fun and flirty second installment in Lia Riley’s fantastic Brightwater series.
Sometimes two wrongs can make a right…
Bad boy wrangler, Archer Kane, lives fast and loose. Words like responsibility and commitment send him running in the opposite direction. Until a wild Vegas weekend puts him on a collision course with Eden Bankcroft-Kew, a New York heiress running away from her blackmailing fiancé…the morning of her wedding.
Eden has never understood the big attraction to cowboys. Give her a guy in a tailored suit any day of the week. But now all she can think about is Mr. Rugged Handsome, six-feet of sinfully sexy country charm with a pair of green eyes that keeps her tossing and turning all night long.
Archer might be the wrong guy for a woman like her, but she’s not right in thinking he’ll walk away without fighting for her heart. And maybe, just maybe, two wrongs can make a right.

BFF K’s Review

rating_4_80

The Brightwater Series is a sweet, heartwarming, butterfly inducing series. I can’t get enough of the Kane Brothers (and Saucy Grandma Kane!) I loved Last First Kiss; it was terrific to go back to Brightwater and continue the story in Right Wrong Guy!

It seems kind of cheesy to say the story was sweet, considering Edie opens up a bakery, but the sweetness goes way beyond brownies and cupcakes. I adore Archer and Edie. They’re fantastic characters and the developing stories of their love and lives makes a super fun read!

Edie is coming into her own and it’s enjoyable to get a glimpse as she grows a backbone and learns to stand up for herself. The melting away of her insecurities is almost something tangible to watch as she overcomes her self doubt partly due to the love and adoration of Archer.

You can tell by the first chapter of the book that Archer is ready to be done with his wildcat ways! He is feeling beat up by a life that lacks of purpose and substance. When he happens into Edie as a jilted bride and rescues her from a bad situation, he quickly determines that SHE just might be the person worth turning his life upside down.

The courtship and twists are entertaining and enjoyable. This is a quick read with big pay offs in lots of charming scenes packed full of alpha male and sweet sentiments! If you haven’t started it yet, the Brightwater Series is one to add to your TBR list! <3

Excerpt

Whatever. Archer had it good, made great tips as a wrangler at a dude ranch. His middle brother took life seriously enough and he hadn’t seen his oldest one in years. Wilder worked as a smoke jumper in Montana. Sometimes Archer wondered what would happen if he cruised to Big Sky Country and paid him a surprise visit—maybe he had multiple sister wives or was a secret war lord.

Growing up after their parents died in a freak house fire, they all slipped into roles. Wilder withdrew, brooding and angry, Sawyer became Mr. Nice Guy, always the teacher’s pet or offering to do chores. Archer rounded things out by going for laughs and practical jokes and causing trouble because someone had to remind everyone else not to take life so seriously. None of them were getting out alive.

He kept marching down the flights of stairs, tucking in his shirt. Grandma’s words played on a loop in his mind. “Using women like disposable silverware.”

Lord knew—those women used him right back. It was fun, didn’t mean anything.

Meaningless.

He ground his jaw so tight his teeth hurt. Casual sex on pool tables, washing machines, countertops, and lawn chairs filled his physical needs, but these random hookups were starting to make him feel more and more alone.

On the ground floor, he slammed open the stairwell door. There were two corridors ahead. He turned left for no reason other than that’s the hand he favored. Seemed like he chose wisely because a side entrance gave him a quick exit. He walked out, wincing at the morning sun even as he gulped fresh air, fresh for the Vegas Strip, but a far cry from the Eastern Sierras’s clean mountain breeze. His heart stirred. He’d have some breakfast and hit the road. As much as he liked leaving Brightwater, he always missed home.

Archer reached to adjust his hat and grabbed a handful of wet hair instead. Twelve stories above, a stripping magician had found herself a mighty fine Stetson.

He stepped onto the street, jumping back on the curb when a city bus turned, the side plastered with a shoe ad sporting the slogan, “Can You Run Forever?”

Hell, he’d been running from accountability, stability, and boring routines his whole life.

Another thought crept in and sank its roots deep. Was he really running from those things, or was he letting his fears of commitment and responsibility run him instead?

Right now, Icelandic hot springs and Scottish castles sound mighty fine.

Review – Every Other Saturday by MJ Pullen

Every Other Saturday BT Ban

BFF Book Blog is pleased to bring you our review for the upcoming release of Every Other Saturday by M.J. Pullen! This is an absolutely wonderful book that I can’t recommend enough!

From romantic comedy author M.J. Pullen comes a unique story about finding help when you need it most, and love where you expect it least.

Even though their daughters have been in the same Jewish preschool class for three years, struggling store owner Julia Mendel and sports blogger Dave “from the Man Cave” Bernstein have never gotten along. She sees him as a definitely arrogant, possibly misogynist symbol of everything that’s wrong with the men in her life. He sees her as the odd, short-tempered PTA president, out to make his life more difficult at every opportunity.

As part of his job, Dave accepts an on-air challenge: go out with a different woman from a Jewish dating site every Saturday for the next four months, and blog the results. He quickly secures his daughter’s favorite preschool teacher (and super-nanny) Ms. Elizabeth to make the experiment possible. Little does he know Julia is in desperate need of the same sitter for the same schedule, so that she can take a part-time job while pacifying her son, who has severe OCD.

A confrontation in the carpool lane leads to an uneasy compromise: they will pool their resources to share Ms. Elizabeth’s services every-other Saturday night. After a while, Dave finds himself sharing his dating stories with non-Jewish Julia across her kitchen table; while she reluctantly turns to him for the masculine perspective – especially for her son – she’s been missing since her divorce. As the Saturdays wear on, however, they may discover they have more in common than car seats and custody schedules.

I love that this is not an NA story, which seems weird to say, because I love the coming of age stories. But this is a book about already-adults. Real grown-ups dealing with intense and sometimes confusing emotional issues. But, they’re grow-ups and I can relate to them in a way that I can relate to very few other characters.

The characters are really well written and developed and I loved jumping into their lives and situations. Their circumstances are so real. Life is messy and complicated. The characters and story lines are full of self-confidence and insecurities, success and failures, love and loss, and friendship and rivalries. It mirrors the highs and lows that we experience in real life.

This story felt so familiar, not in a “this is my boring life” kind-of-way, but in a way that I could relate to and understand the settings and emotions. As a child with divorced parents and a wife and mom, I just felt a connection to these characters and a deep desire to see them reach gratifying conclusions.

The ending of this story didn’t disappoint. It is true to the storyline and the characters; it is real and raw and a little messy, but it also has an HEA (ending and epilogue) that is incredibly fulfilling. I believe that each of the characters I have come to care about achieve a realistic, but incredibly satisfying resolution!

If you’re looking for a break from angsty NA novels, but still want a delicious story with great characters discovering who they are and what they want and need in life, I encourage you to read Every Other Saturday. You’ll be so glad you did!

Review – Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey

What started out as a joke– seduce Coach Wilder–soon became a goal she had to score.

With Olympic tryouts on the horizon, the last thing nineteen-year-old Kinsley Bryant needs to add to her plate is Liam Wilder. He’s a professional soccer player, America’s favorite bad-boy, and has all the qualities of a skilled panty-dropper.

* A face that makes girls weep – check.
* Abs that can shred Parmesan cheese (the expensive kind) – check.
* Enough confidence to shift the earth’s gravitational pull – double check.

Not to mention Liam is strictly off limits. Forbidden. Her coaches have made that perfectly clear. (i.e. “Score with Coach Wilder anywhere other than the field and you’ll be cut from the team faster than you can count his tattoos.”) But that just makes him all the more enticing…Besides, Kinsley’s already counted the visible ones, and she is not one to leave a project unfinished.

Kinsley tries to play the game her way as they navigate through forbidden territory, but Liam is determined to teach her a whole new definition for the term “team bonding.”

Liam Wilder is the ultimate soccer fantasy! He’s all bad boy and muscled athletic hotness. But, he’s also sweet, kind and a little misunderstood. Enter Kinsley Bryant, female soccer phenom and the person to rock Wilder’s world! Put them together and it’s the dream team combo! The book is fun and silly and fast-paced. I loved the story lines and both Liam and Kinsley are fun characters. They’re surrounded by a pretty good cast of supporting characters as well and those side stories add to the overall enjoyment of the book.

I read Scoring Wilder awhile ago, but hadn’t gotten around to my review. Two recent happenings have me thinking about this book. 1 – the 2015 US Women’s World Cup Soccer Victory…. I like to think (pretend) that Kinsley and Becca are on that team of champions! 2 – the ESPN Magazine Body Issue was released last week and I have this crazy thought that both Liam and Kinsley could be featured in this issue!

If you’re looking for a lively book with great characters, laugh out loud moments and some super hot athletes – this is a MUST read!

**Note – I did a combo read and listen for this book. The written version is terrific and the audio version is entertaining. I was a bit put off by the female announcer on the audio. The pacing was incredibly fast, in fact, I slowed the audio down in order to make it more enjoyable. Though it was a little annoying, I do think the narration was true to the authenticity/age of the character!

About the Author

I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things “funny”. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Review- Dismantled by Yara Greathouse

What happens when a stranger takes everything from you in the blink of an eye? When your life goes from perfection to hell and you aren’t sure if you want to climb out of the hole you’re in or dig down deeper?

Events from Traxx Maxwell’s past prevent him from getting into serious relationships and he likes it that way. One unexpected day, hell breaks loose. “The Incident” happens. Traxx is forced to watch something that no one should ever see. He starts to fall into a person that no one recognizes. There is darkness moving within him – he is broken inside.

While she’s waiting for Traxx to quit his slutty ways and really notice her, Ciara Collins is dating other guys and having fun. One unexpected day “The Incident” takes over Traxx’s life. While he tries to push everyone away, Ciara refuses to retreat. Can she help him put his fractured life back together or will he have to remain this shattered shell, completely dismantled?

And just when life seems somewhat bearable, the creepers who have been quietly observing and enjoying Traxx’s suffering, have decided to take everything away from him – once and for all.

This is a story about how the unexpected can make someone’s life fall into pieces, and how unconditional love and friendship can help those who are dismantled become whole again.

Dismantled is Book #2 of the Girls of Top series by Yara Greathouse.  We were introduced to Ciara and Traxx in Book #1, Unaviodable as the best friends of Brianna and Colton.  Although both books could be read as stand alone, they were quick reads and I’m glad I read both so I understood the dynamics of all the characters.

Ciara and Traxx hang out with a small group of friends. This group reminds me of my bestie group I hang with.  When there’s  fun, laughter, and beverages, you can never go wrong. There is definitely an attraction between Ciara and Traxx, with his well defined, hot body, who can blame Ciara for being attracted to him?  However, with Traxx’s past of one night stands, the friends warn him to stay away from Ciara.  The last thing they want to see is the friendship they have torn apart by a failed  relationship.  When Traxx is faced with an “incident” that changes him, he retreats to a dark place, not letting much in other this nightmares and a whisky bottle.  My heart broke for Traxx, no one should witness what he had to, or feel the guilt that was a result of someone else’s actions.  Ciara is determined to help him back to the person he once was, to support and help him find himself and be happy again. Ciara is the perfect person to help.  She is a strong person that I would want to be my friend.  She’s the type that won’t leave you alone even if you said you were ok, she can see Traxx needs support, and she refuses to give up, even when he pushes her away.

“I’m not going to let you stray.  We are in this together. Yes, your life is in pieces, all over the place, but I’m the best damned assembler you’re ever going to meet.”

Ciara also doesn’t let past events interfere with what the future may hold.

“The tragedies of our past are stepping stones for us to reach the happy endings of our tomrrows.”

All she is looking for is happiness.. for Traxx and for herself. Dismantled is a fun read about never giving up on your friends and fighting for those feelings you have for someone else.

Review – Searching for Beautiful by Jennifer Probst

JennP_Searching forBeautiful

The highly anticipated third novel in the Searching For series from Jennifer Probst, “one of the most exciting breakout novelists” (USA Today), featuring a runaway bride and the man who wants to be more than just her best friend…

Genevieve MacKenzie has her life completely under control. About to wed the charming Chief doctor at the local hospital, she’s an up-and-coming surgeon with everything she could ever want. Until an escape through the church window on the day of her wedding sends her life into a tailspin…and flings her right into her best friend’s arms.

When Wolfe catches his best friend falling out a window on her wedding day, he doesn’t ask questions. He whisks her away, determined to watch over her and discover the truth behind her desperate escape. But when his feelings turn more than platonic, he realizes he may risk his most important relationship in order to protect his damaged heart, and the woman he loves.

Can Genevieve and Wolfe’s friendship turn into something deeper—or is it already too late for true love?

When I read the synopsis for this book, I immediately thought, “this is my kind of read!” Runaway bride, hot tattooed best-friend-turned-lover, this has all the makings for my favorite kind of book. And, I wasn’t wrong. Searching for Beautiful is my kind of story. But, this is not your typical runaway bride story. What caught me off guard was the depth of the story. I wasn’t expecting the emotional journeys of personal growth and discovery. Both Gen and Wolfe have pasts that they’re working to reconcile.

Jen is an incredible heroine. She’s left David, and what looked to be a perfect relationship, at the alter. But, the mess left behind is way more personal and intimate than an uneaten wedding cake. As she begins to put the pieces back together with the help of Wolfe, the entire relationship between these besties begins to evolve.

Wolfe is a total alpha male (my favorite kind) with an inherent instinct to protect. And, Gen is his to protect, first as a friend, but soon as something more. However, Wolfe carries a basket load of issues from his past. And, as they’re slowly revealed, your heart will break and you will love him as fiercely as Gen does.

Searching for Beautiful is a deeply pleasing story of love, self-discovery, independence, trust and hope. Though it is the 3rd book in the Searching For Series, it can be read as a standalone. (Which is proven, as I haven’t yet read the first two in the series. YET!) I’ve read other Jennifer Probst books in the past and really enjoyed them. Searching for Beautiful is another reminder for me to put this author on my go-to list!
