BFF K’s Review of Simmer Down

So…..now I just want to fly to Hawaii and eat all of the delicious food. I mean, if we’re honest, I always want to do that, but this book really put me in the mood for a culinary adventure mixed with a little romance.

Nikki and Callum are the epitome of enemies-to-lovers. Their bitter feud covers up a really intense attraction….for awhile. When they find themselves thrown together they discover that they can really heat things up in the kitchen and the bedroom. And, the reader is lucky to be along for the ride.

Callum is a terrific Hero. He’s caring and reasonable and lets Nikki know how special she is. Nikki is complicated. She listens to Callum but doesn’t always hear him. She gets in her own way, a lot. But, you will still root for her and Callum to figure their s@#$ out!

I adore Nikki’s mom and Callum’s brother. They add depth and spice to the story. But, I can’t forget about the real star of the story – the food! Oh the food! The description of countless dishes and their preparation will make your mouth water and have you searching for local restaurants to devour these delicacies. You will literally want to lick up every last drop of this story!

BFF K’s Review of Well This Sucks

Fun! That’s the perfect way to describe Well This Sucks. The book is pure escapist, campy, laugh-out-loud, boisterous, romp through the pages!

I adore a good vampire book and I love how every author takes their own spins on the myths surrounding the mythical creatures. Well This Sucks is an enjoyable take on a vampire coven where politics and enemies slink in every corner. Diego is the Vampire King and rules with absolute authority. He has no distractions or complications until Drew. Turned against her will and under some crazy circumstances, Drew is unceremoniously thrust into this hidden vampire world. And, she’s honestly less than thrilled about it! But, as she navigates this new world and she and Diego get to know each other, apprehension burns away quickly and leaves a red-hot lust in its place.

This story is about Drew finding her place in her new world and it’s a lively self-discovery. Diego and Drew have some seriously steamy scenes that cement their bond and make this story a real page-turner. If you’re looking for a para-normal rom-com, full of fun, this story definitely doesn’t suck!

I have always loved to read. In kindergarten, I was the weird kid sitting in the reading nook by myself instead of trying to get more snacks. I’m excited to be putting my own voice on the page and watching a story I helped create come to life. I still love to read, but I also really like snacks.

I grew up in Chicago but recently moved back to the Dallas area where I live with my husband and son.

I have my Bachelor of Science in Biology. I spent a year researching chimpanzees and gorillas while I was in Chicago and then I spent another two months on a chimpanzee sanctuary trying to convince headstrong chimps to cooperate. There is no current romance writer who does surprising, mind twisting, super steamy, all-Alpha Heroes who fall in love with strong Heroines better than Meghan March. White Knight is no exception. It’s another absolutely stellar delivery from March.

Cannon is complicated. But, his life is nothing compared to the complexities of Drew’s life. He wants her in spite of (or maybe because of) the flash of kindred spirit that he sees in her. Cannon is determined that he will know all of her secrets and as well as he knows every curve of her body. The quest to uncover those secrets is one wild ride that shouldn’t be missed.

White Knight is a fantastic follow up to Black Sheep and this terrific duet should absolutely be cued up in your audiobook or ebook TBR!

Black Sheep is a dark, foreboding, mind-twisting, delicious, angsty, steamy, suspenseful romance! Meghan March builds the most amazing worlds and this one is centered in the mafia. There’s more to Drew than she is revealing and Cannon doesn’t know why buy he’s absolutely willing to risk everything to discover all her secrets!

As with any Meghan March masterpiece, I can’t say much without spoiling all the delicious goodness! Both the audiobook and the book are incredible. Sometimes you just need a little mysterious mob drama and this book is the boss!

BFF K’s Review of Reveling in Sin

Meghan March has done it again! I finished a book and felt like I was sitting with my mouth agape wondering WTF just happened. March is the absolute master of the unexpected plot twists and Reveling in Sin is no exception!

I found myself much more invested in Lincoln and Whitney in this third book. It felt like a great episode of Dallas or Dynasty and I just couldn’t read fast enough to find out how it turned out.

In the spirit of honest reviews, I will admit that I think there was probably 2-3 plot-twists too many. I wish a couple of things had been revealed in Book 2 and that at least 2 of the twisty things at the end of Book 3 just hadn’t happened. I think the story actually would have been a better with a little less drama. Toward the end it was almost eye-roll inducing when another thing would happen.

But….all that being said, I still flipped the pages as fast as I could and I messaged another friend to talk about the story and the ending. So, all the drama was not for naught. I LOVE a couple of the twists from the end and I can’t wait to see what happens in Gable next! Bring on more of the Meghan March twisty-turny-rollarcoaster-romance!

BFF K’s Review for The Day I Stopped Falling for Jerks

I have listened to a TON of Max Monroe books this year and I love this writing duo’s great characters and clever stories. They’re usually super swoony and lol-funny. I was excited about the premise of this duet. And for the most part, I really liked the story and the characters.

Lucky is plucky. (Sorry, I didn’t mean to rhyme.) She’s hard-working and determined. But, unlucky in love. She takes a work trip that really begins to look a little like an early mid-life crisis/exploration of self-discovery. I think I really like Ollie as a character, but the one-sided delivery of the story only from Lucky’s point of view makes it hard to know for sure.

Here’s my issue and the things I didn’t like. The book is set up to be delivered like a podcast. And, honestly, I don’t know why. I was so distracted by the fact that the way a great author builds scenes is by adding details, but those details are very seldom things that you would actually say out loud. So, it just seemed awkward to think of this as a podcast. And, don’t even get me started on the sex scene. They tried to address it head on, but I was bothered by an explicit description of intimate sex by one of the participants in a pod cast. It just didn’t seem to fit with the story or Lucky’s character.

Lucky writes a series of Dear Ex-Boyfriend letters that really move the plot along and help with her character development. I love them and I feel like they would have been plot device enough without the podcast. Combine those two issues with the exotic travel and there was just a little too much going on.

Even with the things that bothered me about the story, I’m still invested in the characters. I want to know what happens next and I will definitely be buying book #2 in this duet. I’m hoping for a little more humor and a little less angst from Ollie’s perspective when it releases tomorrow. And, I will be one-clicking it now so it arrives soon!

I’m anxious to know how the story ends and I think that’s the highest praise I can give to a two-part story! Bring on the hunky Aussie bloke!

BFF K’s Review of Guilty As Sin

Guilty As Sin picks up right where we left off in Richer Than Sin! And it just keeps building. There’s so much stress and tension with Lincoln and Whitney it will leave you feeling all kinds of wound up and oh so ready for the final book in the series.

Guilty As Sin continues the tumultuous relationship between Whitney and Lincoln. The story is told in alternating bits between the past and the present so that readers can clearly draw history and future conclusions from both times. It’s clear to see all of the reasons they’ve been apart and all of the reasons they are desperately drawn back together.

But, there is so much standing in their way. The body count around this relationship just keeps climbing. Whether they’ve directly impacted the death toll or not remains to be seen. But either way, they’re just adding logs to the fire that threatens to burn this relationship to the ground.

I’m going to be anxiously awaiting Reveling in Sin to see just how this soap opera-esque drama ends!

BFF K’s Review of Richer Than Sin

Richer Than Sin is just the kind of story I expect from Meghan March. It’s interesting, steamy and full of romance! I enjoyed the audiobook version, you can’t go wrong with the narration of Joe Arden and Erin Mallon.

The story vacillates back and forth between the past and the present. You get an idea of just what brought Whitney Gable and Lincoln Riscoff together and you understand that they badly want to reconnect with one another. But there are still so so so many unanswered questions. With a crazy cliffhanger, you’ll be anxious to know what comes next!

I wish that the characters had been a little more well developed. I like Whitney and Lincoln, but I’m not yet sure why they are so desperately drawn to each other. The wonderful way that Meghan March weaves stories together will bring me back to discover all of those reasons! This is a modern twist on the Romeo and Juliet trope, with a little taste of your favorite soap opera drama sprinkled in. I’m just counting down the days until the next episode!

BFF K’s Review of Up to You

Daisy Prescott does it again! She’s delivered another sweet, steamy and LOL Rom-Com that has left me grinning ear to ear from beginning to end!

Her Love with Altitude Series is set in Aspen/Snowmass and described in such loving detail that the place almost becomes its own character! The setting is fun, unique and integral to the story. The story captures the feeling and vibe of this area and the people who live there. You’ll be dying for a visit as she describes the beautiful settings and picturesque scenes.

I am not going to dive into storyline details as there are a couple of twists and turns I didn’t know about until I read the book; and I want you to be surprised too!

But, I will say that the book contains incredible characters – both good and bad and they’re not always fully one or the other! It’s great to visit the Aspen crew again and I love Sage, Mara, Zoe and Mae. I want to meet up with them for margaritas at a Tuesday Taco night and you will too! Isn’t it the best kind of series that creates characters you love so much that it makes you sad you can’t hang out with them in real life? That’s how I feel about this crazy cast!

Finally, this book is funny! There are so many quick and clever quips and one-liners. I was giggling and highlighting passages and pages, it is so much fun! This book is a perfect, sweet and sunny summer romance. You should definitely download today!

BFF K’s Review of Rebel Heart

I have been very excited for the conclusion of this duet. I really liked Rebel Heir and I was anxious to know the conclusion of Rush and Gia’s story. All in all I was very pleased with the finale.

Rush and Gia are really in an impossible situation. The conclusion of book one reveals a twist that blows their already fragile love story apart. Rebel Heart picks up immediately where Rebel Heir left off. Rush is a special kind of Hero. He is rough on the outside but it doesn’t match his sweet and a tender heart on the inside. Gia is independent and strong, but her world is on a shaky foundation. This story is filled with angst and a few tears but it is truly an epic romance and solid story.

There were some inconsistencies in the final chapters that bothered me a little bit. It felt like the story could have use one more round of beta reading or editing. But even with those issues I enjoyed the characters and the story and I am glad that I was able to spend some time reading this duet. If you’re looking for a summer read that has a few clouds mix in with the sunshine then this is a duet you’ll definitely want to throw in your beach bag!

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add—especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed God of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting—and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
