Emiliaā€”

All Iā€™ve ever wanted was to marry for love.

But girls like me donā€™t have that luxury.

We are used as pawns in a game we canā€™t control.

The game? Itā€™s called Mafia.

I was foolish enough to try to change the rulesā€¦ and I lost.

Lucaā€”

She was promised to me years ago.

And he dared to take her from me.

Dared to touch what was mine.

I put an end to that.

I hope heā€™s enjoying the view from his dirt room.

Emiliaā€”

My belovedā€™s killer placed a ruby ring on my finger and called me his queen.

But that red gem symbolizes something different for me.

It represents the blood shed by those I love most.

Hell was empty the day we wed.

Because the devil was standing before me and said ā€œI do.ā€

Lucaā€”

I saw her as a possession.

A shiny toy I didnā€™t want other boys to play with.

But sheā€™s so much more.

Beautiful and brave and strong and broken all at once.

She tastes like everything Iā€™ve ever wanted.

Emiliaā€”

Hidden and patient.

I wait for the perfect time to seek my revenge.

But slowly, I feel him possessing me.

His heart is full of darknessā€¦ and I still want every inch of him.

Hard as I try, I canā€™t escape loving this beautiful monster.

Lucaā€”

Iā€™m waiting patiently because I already know that sheā€™s mine.

Mine in a way that no one will ever understand.

Even if she hasnā€™t yet realized it.

For love, Iā€™d do anything.

For her, Iā€™d do everything.

BFF K’s Review of Waiting for My Queen

Georgia Cates writes incredible mafia stories. (If you haven’t read the Sin Series, start with A Necessary Sin.) This new release blew my mind!

Waiting for My Queen starts off with a bang….lots of them. And Luca is the biggest jerk. I hated him. I thought there were absolutely NO redeeming qualities to him. And then Georgia Cates worked her magic. In the end, Luca was not only tolerable, he was understandable and even likeable.

Emilia is a firecracker. She’s a strong heroine who has to make some tough choices. Countless things in her life are decided for her and she is forced to sacrifice her will time after time. But, she continues to rise stronger, braver and better than ever. Emilia is a fantastic heroine.

And did I mention this book is set in the 1970’s? It’s such an unexpected backdrop, but really makes the story authentic and unique. I’m beyond hopeful that Georgia Cates will create a series around this new world she has constructed. Please read, Waiting for My Queen; then review and share how awesome it is so that we can all get more books in what could be a fabulous new series!

Review – Happy Trail by Daisy Prescott

DP-HT-FBbannerBT

“Happy Trail was a feel good, funny and heartwarming adventure with the usual Daisy Prescott charm..”– T. Gephart, USA Today bestselling author

Happy Trail, an all-new opposites attract standalone romance from USA Today bestselling author Daisy Prescott, is available now!

20190718_GVPR01_Happy Trail_Prescott_KDP_FINAL

A man of few words, Ranger Jay Daniels values the calm, quiet solitude of the Great Smoky Mountains. Never quite fitting in with either side of his family, he prefers the company of birds and trees to people.

Yeah, heā€™d most definitely prefer a birdā€”any bird, any bird at all, take a vulture for instanceā€”to the human-tornado hybrid that just blew onto his peaceful stretch of the Appalachian Trail.

The path of true love never has run smooth for Olive Perry. After getting dumped and promptly abandoned in the middle of her multi-month hike, Olive swears off men. Determined to finish the long trek by herself, she doesnā€™t need a princeā€”or broody and taciturn rangerā€”to save her.

Yet, when an early snowstorm threatens the mountains, and Ranger Daniels is charged with getting hikers to safety, that includes hot-tempered Olive Perry. Snowed in and forced to share an abandoned cabin, can Oliveā€™s heated intensity melt Jayā€™s cool reserve?

And if so, will this happy trail lead to true love? Or will their time together be just another bump in the road?

‘Happy Trail’ is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, can be read as a standalone, and is book#1 in the Park Ranger series.

BFF K’s Review of Happy Trail

Daisy Prescott is consistent…..consistently amazing! I know for a fact that when I pick up one of her stories, I’m going to fall in love. I’m going to fall in love with the characters and their struggles, with the highs and lows of the personal and romantic journey, with the setting and the supporting characters. Daisy Prescott writing a book set in Green Valley and the Penny Reid Universe? Well, I knew it was going to be great, and boy was it ever GREAT!

Jay and Olive have the most unlikely journeys that bring them together. In so many ways, they wouldn’t seem a match “on paper” but in every way that counts, they’re perfect for one another. They both have super interesting back stories that give each of them solid identity and their own substance. Olive’s journey on the Trail is particularly interesting, dare I say inspiring! And, Jay is learning how to come to terms with his own identity, history and future. It’s a joy to read, learn and experience the lives of both main characters.

Happy Trail is set on the Appalachian Trail and in and around Green Valley. It’s so idyllic, I desperately wish Green Valley were a real place I could visit and experience along with these characters. It’s the true mark of an incredible writer when they can make a place come alive as a character in the book and Daisy has painted such vivid images of life on the Trail and in Green Valley. Her story has continued to add depth to the Penny-verse and I can’t wait for more in this Park Ranger series!

Three cheers for Smartypants Romance and the chance to savor more great authors in this really vibrant world! And 5 amazing, happy, bright, shiny, feel-good stars for Daisy Prescott’s Happy Trail!

Excerpt

ā€œCan we drop the pretense of not being trapped on the wrong side of the fence with whatever bloodthirsty beast is making such a sound?ā€ I squint into the distance, hoping narrowing my eyes will give me super strength vision.

It doesnā€™t. I step behind Ranger Daniels for protection.

ā€œWhat are you doing?ā€ He twists his neck to look down at me.

ā€œHiding. I believe you took an oath to protect and serve.ā€

ā€œPfft. Youā€™re confusing me with a police officer. Iā€™m here to engage, educate, and empower.ā€ He moves so heā€™s beside me.

ā€œYou carry a gun, donā€™t you?ā€

ā€œSometimes. Do you see a holster now?ā€

I scan his hips and shake my head, allowing my eyes to linger on the tight fit of his uniform pants over his strong thighs and the thick belt at his narrow waist. Ranger Daniels is packing heat, but not of the pistol variety.

Is it hot in here, or is it just me?

A distinct braying reaches my ears.

ā€œIs that a donkey?ā€ I tip my head.

ā€œWhat would a donkey be doing up here? Makes no sense.ā€

ā€œAsk him. Or her.ā€ I point at the gray beast moving toward us. ā€œIā€™m a city girl, but Iā€™m pretty sure thatā€™s an ass.ā€

ā€œWell, Iā€™ll be damned.ā€ Jay removes his hat.

Maybe he plans to shoo away our attacker with it?

The gray form ambles toward us, letting out a loud bray and revealing large teeth.

ā€œShould we be worried?ā€ Iā€™m standing behind Jay again.

ā€œAbout a donkey? Theyā€™re mostly docile. Heā€™s probably just curious.ā€ Shifting his attention forward, he addresses our new friend. ā€œHey there. Whereā€™d you come from?ā€

The donkey halts.

ā€œSee? Heā€™s fine. Probably thinks weā€™re bringing treats.ā€

ā€œAnd what will he do when he realizes weā€™re showing up to his house empty-handed?ā€ Iā€™m half mocking. In my world, not bringing a hostess gift is an unthinkable breach of etiquette. I have no idea about the social decorum for equines.

ā€œLetā€™s go.ā€ Jay encourages me forward with a sweep of his hat.

We take several steps and the donkey does the same without breaking eye contact, like weā€™re about to duel. Thereā€™s definitely a challenge, a mild threat in the eyes of our new foe.

ā€œShould we slowly retreat to the fence?ā€ I whisper at Jayā€™s back.

ā€œNah, weā€™re fine.ā€

ā€œMaybe heā€™s a guard donkey.ā€ I slide a glance over my shoulder toward safety. Weā€™re a dozen or so yards away, but it isnā€™t too late to make a quick escape.

Jayā€™s eyes meet mine. ā€œYou know guard donkeys arenā€™t a thing.ā€

ā€œIā€™m a stranger in a strange landā€”anythingā€™s possible.ā€ I wait until he faces forward to stick my tongue out at him.

Heā€™s shaking his head and clearly not paying attention to me anymore as he stomps across the squishy field.

Left with no choice, I follow after him.

My boot slips in the mud, or donkey poopā€”itā€™s impossible to tell the difference. I squawk and flail my arms as I tumble forward in an awkward motion resembling the mating dance of an emu.

The donkeyā€™s ears prick up before flattening against his head.

ā€œUh oh,ā€ I murmur as I straighten up.

ā€œItā€™s fine,ā€ Jay says for the dozenth time.

Only heā€™s wrong.

Review – Beard with Me by Penny Reid

BWM-Blog Tour Banner.jpg

ā€œThis is Penny Reid at her finest.ā€ — L.B. Dunbar, author

Beard With Me, an epic and breathtaking story from New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Penny Reid, is available now!

KDP_BWM.jpg

No one is better at surviving than Scarlet St. Claire and making the best out of circumstances beyond her control is Scarletā€™s specialty. In an apocalyptic situation, sheā€™d be the last person on earth, hermitting like a pro, singing along to her CD Walkman, and dancing like no one is watching.

Scarlet is clever, Scarlet is careful, and Scarlet is smart . . . except when it comes to Billy Winston.

No one is better at fighting than Billy Winston and raging against his circumstancesā€”because nothing is beyond his controlā€”is Billyā€™s specialty. In an apocalyptic situation, heā€™d be the first person on earth to lead others to safety, overcome catastrophe, or die trying.

Billy is fearless, Billy is disciplined, and Billy is honorable . . . except when it comes to Scarlet St. Claire.

ā€˜Beard With Meā€™ is the origin story of Billy Winston and Scarlet St. Claire (aka Claire McClure) and is just the beginning of their epic love story.

BFF K’s Review of Beard with Me

I don’t mean to skip ahead but….Beard Necessities is the title of the next (and final) book in the Winston Brothers Series. And, I don’t think there’s ever been a more appropriate title. After reading Beard with Me, I’m in desperate need of the next book. Now! Stat! Please put me out of my heart-broken misery!!! šŸ’”

I’ve been waiting the entire series to know and understand Billy Winston. And, the backstory is even more endearing and tragic than I imagined. Billy and Scarlet are star-crossed lovers for sure. Beard with Me is the beginning of their relationship and explains all the ins and outs of their broken journey.

Bill Winston has always struck me as being wiser than his years and carrying more responsibility than someone his age and all of his siblings. I had NO idea. My intuition didn’t even scratch the surface of what was really happening in his life, his heart and his brain. And, if Billy is an old soul, then he’s a perfect match for Scarlet. This book is a tale of young love, misunderstanding, and sacrifice that exceeds maturity.

This story was at times hard to read due to the gut-wrenching challenges and vulnerabilities that the characters displayed, but it was such a glimpse into what circumstances built the Winston family. And, it was the perfect story I didn’t know I needed in the series.

All of the praise for this angst-filled, tear-jerker aside, I don’t remember the last time I was this anxious to end a cliffhanger and put a beautiful bow on the Winston Brothers Series!

Excerpt from Beard with Me

*Scarlet*

ā€œDo you want me to leave?ā€

Yes. That would be best, a wise voice said between my ears.

So of course I inhaled deeply and said as calmly as I could manage, ā€œI thought we were going to go get firewood.ā€

ā€œOkay. Good.ā€

ā€œBut then,ā€ I blurted, flustered and irritated with myself for not speaking wisdom, ā€œYou should go. You canā€™t tell me carting firewood back and forth between your house and here is how you want to spend the last of your Thanksgiving weekend.ā€

ā€œI didnā€™t say it was.ā€ He began making his way up the incline.

ā€œBut you just saidā€”ā€

ā€œHow about we make a deal.ā€ Billy dropped the kindling next to my little woodpile, dusting his hands off on his pants. ā€œIā€™ll cart the firewood, and you sing.ā€

ā€œYou want me to serenade you while we carry firewood?ā€

He smiled, slow and easy as he walked to me and reached out his hand. On autopilot, I accepted it and allowed him to help me up.

As soon as I was standing, his gaze moved from my hairline down to my nose, lips, and then chin, saying quietly, ā€œIā€™ll take a serenade from you anytime.ā€

Thunk ka-thunk. That was my heart. It had been doing the thunk ka-thunk quite a lot around him. I ignored it, because what else could I do?

ā€œAnd youā€™re not carrying the wood.ā€ He tugged on my hand, pulling me out of my daze and past my tent.

ā€œI will too carry wood.ā€ Struggling to find my bearings, I stumbled after him. ā€œI can carry logs just fine.ā€

ā€œYouā€™ll carry a log.ā€ Billy fit his fingers between mine, pressing our palms together and grinning at me like he was waiting for me to argue and he couldnā€™t wait.

Snapping my mouth shut, I glared at him.

ā€œNothing to say?ā€

Maintaining my glare, I walked next to him. I wasnā€™t being led anywhere I didnā€™t wish to go. Not anymore. He wasnā€™t talking me into anything else.

ā€œThatā€™s an awfully mean look, Scarlet.ā€ His grin grew, his brutally attractive eyes glowing happily as he peered down at me.

ā€œWell, you deserve it. Always trying to tell me what I can and canā€™t do. Iā€™m not arguing with you about this. Iā€™m carrying as much wood as I want and you can take your stupid, chauvinistic opinions and shove them up your pretty-boy ass.ā€

Goodness. Where had that come from?

Billyā€™s steps faltered and his mouth fell open, his eyebrows rising high on his forehead. He stared at me, looking shocked as hell. And then in the next moment, he threw his head back and laughed. But he did not let go of me, instead bringing my knuckles to his chest as his deep, rumbly laughter filled the empty spaces between the trees, surrounding us.

Crushing me.

Yes. I was well and truly crushed as I could only watch Billy Winston laugh, desperately basking in the image of him so delighted and relaxed. I had the odd sense that his laughter also filled the empty spaces inside of me, the neglected, vacant rooms, and even a few places that felt brand-new, like heā€™d created them.

All that noble honesty he carried around like a boulder abruptly lifted, revealing him. Just him. Carefree and young and happy. Someone he mightā€™ve been if his burdens hadnā€™t been so heavy, his responsibilities so broad.

It lasted only a minute, maybe two, maybe less, but I had the sense of being caught afterward. Billyā€™s laughter had receded, but heā€™d spun a web while Iā€™d been staring at him, holding his hand.

His grin became smaller and he bit his bottom lip, his gaze dropped to my mouth. ā€œYou think Iā€™m pretty?ā€

ā€œYou know youā€™re pretty,ā€ I said, bizarrely out of breath, rattled, needing to anchor my focus to a tree beyond him and waging war against the heat climbing up my neck to my cheeks. Oddly, my eyes stung. I blinked.

His attention was still on me. I felt it, but I didnā€™t dare look at him. I couldnā€™t handle one of Billy Winstonā€™s intense stares right now. Heā€™d probably use my scattered wits to his advantage, talk me into something I shouldnā€™t want to do, and then Iā€™d be kicking myself later.

ā€œWhatā€™s wrong?ā€ he asked, his voice deep with concern, all trace of his earlier humor gone.

I huffed, trying half-heartedly to steal my hand back from him. He didnā€™t let it go, instead taking my tugging as a signal to step closer, filling my vision.

ā€œScarletā€”ā€

ā€œAre you ever going to teach me how to play the guitar?ā€ I closed my eyes.

He didnā€™t answer right away, and I felt him hesitate, his mind work before he muttered, ā€œItā€™s only been a week.ā€

A quality to his voice made me think he wasnā€™t answering the question Iā€™d asked, but rather he was reminding himself that it had only been a week since weā€™d struck the deal.

Was that only last week? Why does it feel like so much has changed?

Then he said, ā€œDonā€™t be angry.ā€

ā€œIā€™m not angry.ā€ I was muddled, my head and heart hurt, I was incredibly confused, but I wasnā€™t angry.

The air shifted and I felt him move closer. A second later, the fingers of his free hand were at my ear, tucking my hair behind it, his fingertips lingering at my neck, sending wave after wave of goose bumps every which way. I couldnā€™t breathe. I couldnā€™t swallow. I couldnā€™t think. Every nerve in my body strained toward him and I didnā€™t understand it. What is happening?

ā€œHave you ever been kissed, Scarlet?ā€

But my time in disgrace is at an end.

Itā€™s my turn to rise up and save the people who matter most to me.

Even if my family has never given a damn about me, I will not let them fall.

BFF K’s Review of White Knight

There is no current romance writer who does surprising, mind twisting, super steamy, all-Alpha Heroes who fall in love with strong Heroines better than Meghan March. White Knight is no exception. It’s another absolutely stellar delivery from March.

Cannon is complicated. But, his life is nothing compared to the complexities of Drew’s life. He wants her in spite of (or maybe because of) the flash of kindred spirit that he sees in her. Cannon is determined that he will know all of her secrets and as well as he knows every curve of her body. The quest to uncover those secrets is one wild ride that shouldn’t be missed.

White Knight is a fantastic follow up to Black Sheep and this terrific duet should absolutely be cued up in your audiobook or ebook TBR!

Review – Black Sheep by Meghan March

Black Sheep: From New York Times bestselling author Meghan March comes a story of untold truths and one manā€™s redemption in the Dirty Mafia Duet.

Every family has a black sheep.

In the infamous Casso crime family, that black sheep is meā€”Cannon Freeman.

Except Iā€™m not a free man. Iā€™ve never been free. Not since the day I was born.

I owe my loyalty to my father, Dominic Casso, even if he wonā€™t publicly acknowledge me as his blood.

Iā€™ve never had a reason to go against his wishesā€¦until I met her.

Drew Carson turned my world upside down when she walked into my club looking for a job.

Now, my honor and my life are on the line.

Going against my fatherā€™s wishes might buy me a bullet straight from his gun, but black sheep or not, itā€™s time to make my stand.

Sheā€™s worth the fallout.

Review – On the Corner of Love and Hate by Nina Bocci

For fans of Lauren Layne and Kristan Higgins comes a delightfully ā€œfun bit of fluffy entertainmentā€ (Publishers Weekly) in the first book of a charming new series, in which a young woman is forced to help her old friend revamp his image for the upcoming mayoral elections…and discovers that she might not be as immune to his charms as she once thought.

When Emmanuelle Peroniā€™s fatherā€”and current mayor of Hope Lake, Pennsylvaniaā€”suggests she help with Cooper Endicottā€™s campaign, sheā€™s horrified. Cooper, one of her (former) oldest friends, drives her crazy in every way possible. But heā€™s also her fatherā€™s protĆ©gĆ©, so Emma reluctantly launches her plan to help him win the local election.

Itā€™s not as easy as it looks. Cooperā€™s colorful love life is the sticking point for many voters, and his opponent is digging up everything he can from his past. It seems that every time Emma puts out the flames from one scandal, another one flares up. Emma knows that if Cooper wants to win, he needs to keep his nose clean. The only problem? She might just be falling in love with the one person she promised never to pursue: the mayoral candidate himself.

BFF K’s Review – On the Corner of Love and Hate

I’ve been in a serious funk! You know, the kind of funk where you start book after book and can’t finish any of them. The funk where it takes you hours and days to get into a book. I can bust out audiobook after audiobook, because HELLO captive audience on the Interstate. But, I haven’t been able to finish a read book in ages, until On the Corner of Love and Hate by Nina Bocci! This book broke my funk and I couldn’t be more thankful! I was up until almost 2am to finish the story and then went to bed and read 2 chapters in a new story. My funk has ended, hallelujah!

On the Corner of Love and Hate is a sweet story full of tension, romance and so many butterflies. It’s a delightful small-town romance with an engaging cast of characters that draws you in and makes you want to be a part Hope Lake! This story is completely charming and a joy to read!

The banter between the characters and the internal dialogue are both stellar and keep the book moving at a great pace especially from 20% through the end of the book. I’m a bit of a policy/politics nerd and a rule follower. There were a couple of details that bothered me a bit. In “real life,” a few of the circumstances would not have really happened. For instance, the heroine of the story works for a Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development type agency and her dad is the Mayor. That probably wouldn’t happen in real life. I had to let a few of those details go, but I didn’t really mind because I was enjoying the story and the characters so much!

If you’re looking for a wonderful, heart-warming romance filled with lovable characters and a sweet plots, you definitely need to place On the Corner of Love and Hate at the top of your to be read list!

Review – Never Fall in Love with a Rockstar by Rachel Higginson

My name is Clover Calloway and Iā€™ve lived two separate lives.

The first, I like to call ā€œmy past.ā€ I never talk about it. I try not to think about it. My rockstar days of playing in one of the hottest bands on the planet are over. Along with the most volatile, beautiful, tragic love story of all time.

Over the past five years, Iā€™ve settled into my second life. My ā€œnormal life.ā€ The one where I work a normal job, hang out with normal people and fall in love with a normal, but wonderful guy. The life where Iā€™m admittedly a little bored, but also safe.

My past wasnā€™t boring. But my past broke my heart into a million, unfixable pieces. So, Iā€™m determined to keep it where it belongsā€”behind me.

And the man responsible for the shattering of me? Malachi Porter, lead singer and mastermind of Bright Tragedy, should stay there too. Far away from me and this idyllic life Iā€™ve carved out for myself.

But what happens when my two lives collide?

When Malachi comes crashing into my perfectly normal world, he threatens to destroy it, promises to annihilate everything Iā€™ve replaced him with.

He upends everything I thought I wanted and forces me to question the reasons I left Bright Tragedy all those years ago.

But I didnā€™t walk away five years ago, I ran. As fast as I could go. And while my heart is whispering that itā€™s different this timeā€”that heā€™s differentā€”my brain is screaming for me to run again.

Malachi Porter isnā€™t a normal guy. And he doesnā€™t belong in my ā€œnormal life.ā€ But, nevertheless, heā€™s bound and determined to make a place for himself here.

I just hope my heart can survive him, that we donā€™t burn into another bright tragedy.

Review Never Fall in Love with a Rockstar

Never fall in love with a rockstar; even if you are one yourself! This is an interesting twist on the rockstar trope. Clover was on top of the music world, a household name, playing sold-out stadiums and doing what she loved with her brother, her friends and her boyfriend-since-childhood. But, eventually it was all too much and she left it all behind. She did everything to start a new life. A simple life. A normal life. But, when her old life crashes headfirst into her new life, she has to examine if this “new her” is who she really wants.

And, things are different than they used to be. But, will those changes last? And are those changes enough to cancel out some of the rough memories and replace them with new ones? Clover has to decide if she can trust this new Kai and figure out where she fits into this new life.

Clover and Kai are well-written characters with so many attributes that are both likeable and relatable. It’s easy to become invested in their love story and truly root for their happily ever after! The hero and heroine are surrounded by a terrific cast of supporting characters that have their own personalities and add depth and liveliness to the tale. How I wish Bright Tragedy was a real band! I’m really hoping that we’ll at least get a series so each of the members of the band can find their own loves!

This story is heartfelt, emotional and full of angst. It’s a story of love, fame, success, addiction, recovery and forgiveness. Woven through these themes is a romance for the ages. Never Fall in Love with a Rockstar is a gripping, emotional, page-turner and I definitely recommend adding it to your TBR!

About ROGUE WAVE

A love story that survives the test of time.

Keith McKallister is the king of the stoners. You know the type. Every school has one ā€“ the hot, fun, dopey guy beloved by the student body but despised by, well, just about everyone else. He spends his early mornings in the ocean and his days trying to get to class on time. Life is as easy as it gets until one poor choice too many catches up with him and heā€™s forced to reevaluate his path.

Samantha Anderson sits in the front row. You know the type. Every school has one ā€“ the quiet, faceless, studious girl who fears the taunts of her peers and fades into the background. Life has never been simple for Samantha, and itā€™s about to get a little more complicated when Keith slides into the seat beside her with a partnership plan designed for his benefit only. But what Keith brings to the table is more than either of them could imagine.

Sometimes the person you least expect to make a difference will change your life forever. Sometimes the person you love the most might be better off without you.

BFF K’s Review of Rogue Wave

Finally! I finally have the answers to the mystery of Keith McAllister. Since Book 1 – Cake: A Love Story, I’ve been drawn to Keith. He seemed like such a wonderful and somewhat tortured soul. I have craved his backstory. The previous stories in this series briefly touched on his substance abuse, but it just felt like there was so much beneath the surface. And, the full story was everything I had hoped for and more!

It’s really hard to pick a favorite McAllister. They’re all so fantastic for their own reasons. But, Keith….Keith will hold a special place in my heart. He’s battered but keeps reviving himself in ways that are so genuine and heartening. He’s like a piece of Kintsugi pottery, the way his broken pieces are fused back together makes him even more beautiful than before. And, I think Sam is the gold that holds it all together. She’s lovely on her own, but combined with Keith they make a piece that is more perfect than either were alone. (Wow, super cheesy analogy, but it seems so perfect!)

J Bengtsson just continues to outdo herself. Each book in this series is more emotional and more perfect than the one before. I want the McAllister family to exist in real life and I want to be a part of it! I don’t think it’s too much to ask to be a slightly distant cousin or really close family friend….I just want to live in the middle of this crazy, funny, loving, supportive, wonderful family! At least each story gives me a spot in their world from beginning to end and book to book. You won’t need to read the rest of the series to fall in love with Keith and Sam, but why wouldn’t you want to?!?! Rogue Wave continues this fantastic series and the stories just keep getting better and better!

About the Author

A professional stay-at-home-mom for twenty-one years, Jill started her writing career in 2016 after reading a really bad rockstar romance. Although she had no previous writing experience and no desire to become an author, Jill was convinced she could write a better story.

And so began Cake: A Love Story. She wrote the novel for fun and added every single thing sheā€™d ever wanted to read in a romance. Embarrassed by her newfound hobby, Jill kept her writing a secret from her family.

When the story was complete, she turned to Amazon to get the feedback she desired. Not thinking the book would ever sell, Jill planned to pull Cake off Amazon once it got a review or two but that never happened because, within a week of its release, Cake began to soar up the bestseller charts. Not only was Jill shocked by Cakeā€™s success but now she had a whole new burgeoning career on her handsā€¦and some explaining to do. Needless to say, the news of Jillā€™s secret book bay came as a complete shock to her husband and three children.

Jill is now a full-time writer.

Review – The Last Wingman by Daisy Prescott

Today is the day! The Last Wingman is LIVE on all platforms and it’s everything we hoped it would be!

Jonah Kingston is the last wingman standing.

June Moxee doesnā€™t care if heā€™s the last man on earth.

I havenā€™t exactly avoided relationships, but love has never been a priority. Solitude doesnā€™t bother me and being alone doesnā€™t mean being lonely. Until she moved to the island and I had to reconsider everything.

June seems content running her yarn shop, knitting with the local church ladies, and avoiding me. Sheā€™s a temptress in a handknit sweater. And for some reason, sheā€™s not a fan of mine. It might be the tattoos. Or the beard. Or the fact that weā€™re polar opposites.

A woman has finally caught my attention. Too bad she thinks she hates me.

Good thing Iā€™m stubborn enough to try to change her mind.

The Last Wingman is the sixth standalone, lighthearted small town romance in the Wingmen series. You do not have to read the previous books first to enjoy this book.

BFF K’s Review of The Last Wingman

Jonah and June are just the best. They’re #relationshipgoals. They are gentle and kind and perfect for each other and their journey to come together is everything I want to read in a romance novel! The Last Wingman is a leisurely walk down lover’s lane to arrive at one of the sweetest, brightest, truest, happily-ever-afters I’ve ever read! Jonah is a nerd covered in tattoos and piercings. He’s the poster boy for “Don’t Judge a Book by It’s Cover.” And, he’s just what June needs most.

Because this is the final book in the Wingman Series, this book also gave me some tears. Not that this story is sad, it’s not at all! But, I will miss John, Tom, Dan, Jonah and the Kelso brothers! They’ve been such a welcome and wonderful part of my reading and blogging journey over the last few years. While I will miss them terribly, the beauty of books is that they will always be there for me, just as they are, when I want to go back for a visit. And, isn’t that part of what’s wonderful about books? We can read, relate to and love these characters. It is like we build our own relationship with each of them particularly in a really wonderful series that builds such a strong sense of place and the vibe of a whole island and its’ people.

The Last Wingman is receiving a rare 6-Rating on BFF Book Blog because it completely illustrates everything that I have loved about this series. It is warm, cozy, heart-felt, full of friendship, quirks and incredible characters. It will have a special place in my heart and on my bookshelf. If you haven’t read The Wingmen Series, now is the time to start. Spend some time in Whidbey with the Wingmen and their lady loves. You won’t regret a minute of your stay! Godspeed to my fictional friends.

Review – Trailer Park Heart by Rachel Higginson

Trailer park born and raised. Itā€™s my legacy. Thatā€™s how my mama lived. And thatā€™s how her mama lived. Itā€™s the life I was born into and itā€™s the life I swore I would leave the second I was old enough to make it out.

Only legacies have a funny way of sneaking up on you. An innocent decision the night of high school graduation led to a series of complications in my plans to escape.

Seven years later, Iā€™ve resigned myself to this small town and the roots Iā€™m tied to. Nothing could make me leave. And nothing could make me spill the secrets that keep me here.

Until he walks back into town with a chip on his shoulder and a stupid hunch nobody else in town has been smart enough to follow.

Levi Cole is my opposite. Born on the right side of the tracks with family money to spare, heā€™s the kind of black sheep that can afford to be rebelliousā€”because his family will always pay for his mistakes. Heā€™s also the only living heir to Cole Family Farms, after his brother Logan was killed in duty seven years ago.

He sees something in my life that he thinks he has a right to. But heā€™s wrong. And obnoxious. And he needs to take his stubborn good looks and that intense way he looks at me and go back to wherever it was he came from.

I know better than to trust men like him. I was born and raised in a trailer park, I know nothing good happens to girls like meā€”girls with trailer park lives and trailer park hearts. Especially from gorgeous, kind, pigheaded men like him.

BFF K’s Review of Trailer Park Heart

Last night I finished a book that won’t stop bouncing around in my brain. It is the best book I’ve read in 2018 and that’s saying something….I’ve read 90+ books this year. This book is sweet and tender, full of angst and emotion, heartbreaking and soul affirming, complex and beautifully written. I want everyone to read this book.

Part of the reason that I’m so in love with this story is that it is set in Nebraska. I understand the critical role that small-town-Nebraska plays in this story. There is a level of poverty that exists alongside material wealth that is staggering. There can be a tremendous sense of hometown pride mixed with a clear desire to move beyond what you’ve always known. Nebraska is its own character in this book and I love it!

Ruby is a perplexing character. She is strong and fierce at the same time that she is insecure and withdrawn. She can’t shake the aura of trailer park that follows her everywhere. Ruby knows that no one looks past her former-stripper-mother and the poverty in which she was raised. She believes that her upbringing defines her in the eyes of the small town residents and busy bodies. Her only goal is to get out, go to college, move on. But her plans are derailed on graduation night. The emotional barriers she has built continue to rise.

Levi was Ruby’s nemesis in high school. Constantly in her orbit. Prodding and poking and urging her on. He was both friend and foe. And now he’s back. And he’s even more than he was before. He’s smarter and more persistent, more handsome, more clever and more irresistible. Levi has his sights set on Ruby and showing her that there is more to life and Clark City than she believes. Until he learns her most closely guarded secret. Will it destroy the way that he looks at her?

Perhaps Ruby didn’t understand Levi and his motivations as much as she thought. Or, perhaps she was attempting to protect herself. Maybe, just maybe, Ruby’s walls and defenses extend beyond just Levi. His return makes her question everything she’s believed about her life. Maybe someone can love her because of her trailer park heart and not in spite of it?

This book is just everything. Like Levi, it is just MORE. It is a stunning, emotional, fulfilling story that you need to read. It will make you think and force you to feel and in the end it will just live in a corner of your brain with a piece of your heart, trailer park included.

Excerpt from Trailer Park Heart

He stared at me, unspeaking, unmoving. The hurt in his eyes and the frown on his face devastated my already broken spirit.

ā€œAnd I donā€™t even know what to tell you,ā€ I cried some more. ā€œBecause my mistake led me to Max and for that reason I can never really regret it. But I hate how I hurt you. I hate that my mistakes meant pushing you away. I hate that I finally know how I feel about you and itā€™s too late.ā€

His eyes flashed with something so intense I gasped for breath. ā€œHow do you feel about me?ā€ How could he ask me that now? How did he not know? How had he not always known? ā€œDonā€™t make me say it,ā€ I whispered, my voice dragged over gravel. ā€œIt hurts too much.ā€ ā€œRuby,ā€ he pleaded, his voice just as fragmented. ā€œSay it. Please.ā€

I didnā€™t bother brushing away the tears, there were too many of them, my grief was too heavy. ā€œI love you,ā€ I whispered. ā€œIā€™ve always loved you. Iā€™ve just been too afraid to say it.ā€

To admit it.
