Review – Big Rock by Lauren Blakely

Read the one that started it all….Big Rock by Lauren Blakely!

It’s not just the motion of the ocean, ladies. It’s definitely the SIZE of the boat too.

And I’ve got both firing on all cylinders. In fact, I have ALL the right assets. Looks, brains, my own money, and a big c&$k.
You might think I’m an as%*$le. I sound like one, don’t I? I’m hot as sin, rich as heaven, smart as hell and hung like a horse.
Guess what? You haven’t heard my story before. Sure, I might be a playboy, like the NY gossip rags call me. But I’m the playboy who’s actually a great guy. Which makes me one of a kind.
The only trouble is, my dad needs me to cool it for a bit. With conservative investors in town wanting to buy his flagship Fifth Avenue jewelry store, he needs me not only to zip it up, but to look the part of the committed guy. Fine. I can do this for Dad. After all, I’ve got him to thank for the family jewels. So I ask my best friend and business partner to be my fiancée for the next week. Charlotte’s up for it. She has her own reasons for saying yes to wearing this big rock.
And pretty soon all this playing pretend in public leads to no pretending whatsoever in the bedroom, because she just can’t fake the kind of toe-curling, window-shattering orgasmic cries she makes as I take her to new heights between the sheets.

But I can’t seem to fake that I might be feeling something real for her.

What the hell have I gotten myself into with this…big rock?

BIG ROCK is a standalone, dirty romance novel written from the guy’s POV by NYT Bestselling author Lauren Blakely…

BFF K’s Review of Big Rock

rating_5_80

Big Rock highlights what Lauren Blakely does best. She is a master of LOL, snarky, pop culture-fueled, sexy, dirty, butterfly-inducing, happy-making, can’t-stop-reading, Romance books! Big Rock is absolutely fantastic!

Spencer Holiday is confident…Ok, let’s be honest – he’s cocky! But, Spencer makes cocky look oh-so-good. Charlotte is his perfect match for this Friends-to-Lovers Trope. Big Rock isn’t full of shocking surprises and unexpected revelations. But, it is absolutely enjoyable from start to finish! You will laugh out loud and the butterflies will take flight as you race through this charming and delightful story.

I enjoyed Big Rock in audiobook format. It is narrated by my absolute favorite narrator, Sebastian York. Sebastian could murmur nonsense and I would hang on his every word. This is a quick read (or listen) and worth every minute! If you’re looking for a great story, terrific characters and lots of steam in a feel-good romance, I guarantee that Big Rock will deliver just what you’re searching for!

I had the opportunity to meet BL Berry at the Scripted Social Book Signing this year in Des Moines, IA. She was so sweet and wonderful, I was looking forward to reading one of her books. When the opportunity to review this Audiobook came along, I jumped at the chance without knowing anything about the story. Was I in for a WILD ride?!?!

I’ve been thinking about this book for 2 days trying to decide what I think about it! I’ve concluded that this was a really good book with some VERY unexpected twists. There’s not much that I can say without giving away MAJOR plot points. But, know that this book has a seriously significant mind-f#$% and an unexpected villain (or two.) The fact that I’ve been thinking this book just shows that it’s got some staying power!

I enjoyed the audio, especially the last 40%. I’ll admit, in the beginning, I was annoyed with the narrator. The first character sounded a little breathy and the inflection bothered me a bit. I couldn’t understand the reasoning behind the characterization. But, one of the twists proved why this was necessary. While I still didn’t love the vocal choice, I understood it. And, the story is strong enough to pull the listener through a rough audio issue or two.

If you’re looking for a book that will knock you to your knees and make you feel love and hate and hate and hope (and maybe a little more hate) An Unforgivable Love Story is a great choice! Cheers to B.L. Berry for a really surprising and enjoyable story!

Review – Luck, Love & Lemon Pie by Amy E. Reichert

From the author of the “clever, creative, and sweetly delicious” (Kirkus Reviews) The Coincidence of Coconut Cake comes a novel about a frustrated wife and mother who hatches a scheme to reignite her marriage—and risks everything in a gamble she hopes is a sure bet.

When Milwaukee-area wife and mother MJ Boudreaux notices her husband Chris seems more interested in the casino than her, she’s more bothered that she isn’t upset than by her husband’s absence. She picks up poker as a way for them to spend more time together—and reignite their marital flame.

BFF K’s Review of Luck, Love & Lemon Pie

rating_4_80

Luck, Love & Lemon Pie is a well-written book with thoroughly developed characters and a unique storyline. It is a women’s fiction book and not necessarily the standard romance that I typically read. I enjoyed the story, but was somewhat disappointed that the premise failed to capture my attention or my heart in the same way as Reichert’s previous work, The Coincidence of Coconut Cake.

MJ is desperate to reclaim her marriage. She has felt her husband slipping away and she will try anything to re-kindle the spark that used to exist between them. In a somewhat desperate attempt, MJ takes up her husband’s favorite hobby. But, soon her plans of spending a few hours next to each other at the poker table dissolve into endless afternoons and evenings sitting solo at the felt. MJ sees her marriage slipping though her fingers and knows there’s no way to bluff her way out of the mess she’s in.

The strength of Luck, Love and Lemon Pie is the writing. Reichert crafts beautiful sentences and weaves interesting tales from mundane settings. The build-up to MJ’s Las Vegas experience is slow-going and Vegas is the most active part of the story. The book was interesting in the way that it accurately paints a picture of the complacency that can settle on a marriage. The book sometimes drags in the same way that the day-to-day tasks of marriage and motherhood can seem to drag as well.

Overall, Luck, Love & Lemon Pie is a solid piece of women’s fiction and a relatable read for anyone who has been married for a length of time. If you’re looking for a relatively romance-free book that still explores the lives and loves of an interesting female character, this is a good choice.

Audio Review – Shopping for a Billionaire by Julia Kent

When mystery shopper Shannon Jacoby meets billionaire Declan McCormick with her hand down a toilet in the men’s room of one of his stores, it’s love at first flush in this hilarious new romantic comedy from New York Times best-selling author Julia Kent.

This novella originally appeared in A Sweet Life boxed set (all proceeds donated to diabetes research), so if you bought that boxed set you already own this! If you didn’t buy that boxed set, here’s your chance to read or listen to this series.

BFF K’s Review of Shopping for a Billionaire #1

Shopping for a Billionaire is a delightfully fun romp! The Shopping for a Billionaire series is a set of mini-novels that take you on a fast and furious adventures that are absolutely hilarious! When Shannon meets Declan in this ‘episode’ I had to pause the audio to allow for laugh breaks. Their bathroom encounter made my sides hurt from laughing.

All humor aside, the heart of this story is a hard-working, smart, witty, heroine who is caught off guard by the epitome of “tall, dark and handsome!” I’m anxious to know what comes next for this burgeoning super couple.

I enjoyed the performance and the narration so much that I immediately purchased the audio for #2 and look forward to diving in! If you’re looking for a light, quick, LOL-funny, audio-adventure, this is one to add to your Audible queue. (Or your Kindle if you prefer!)

BFF K’s Review of Everywhere and Every Way

rating_4_80

I love the setting for the new Billionaire Builders Series from Jennifer Probst. I’m not a huge HGTV watcher, but I do love a good Property Brothers episode now and then. And, this new series by Probst captures the images of hot-brother-builders, but there’s so much MORE because these brothers are also in the market for love!

Cal and his brothers Tristan and Dalton have been estranged. (That’s putting it mildly.) Their father, who is as manipulative in death as he was in his life, throws them back together. It’s not guaranteed that Pierce Brother’s Construction will withstand the daily battles of wills and differences of opinions. Morgan Raines is in town for a single project and she needs Pierce Brothers to deliver absolutely impeccable results. She doesn’t have time or patience for their internal bickering and power plays.

When they begin to work together, Cal and Morgan are struck by an instant attraction. But, Cal is stuck in his ways and frankly just a surly, unsettled guy. Morgan plans to sweep out of town as soon as her project is complete. But, as she and Cal grow closer and begin to explore their attraction, both of the characters change and grow.  Cal and Morgan begin to come to terms with their respective pasts; and just might find that they’re happier building a life together than building anything apart from each other.

Everywhere and Every Way is a great start to the Billionaire Builders Series. Probst delivers quality characters and lots of romance. This book also lays the groundwork for future stories about the brothers, Tristan and Dalton, and hopefully other members of the Pierce Brothers Team! I love starting off a new series with a seasoned author. It feels like the plans have been drawn up and now I’m looking forward to discovering all the ways this series will come together!

BFF K’s Review of From This Day Forward

rating_4_80

Lauren Layne has come upon an idea that absolutely hits upon one of my favorite storylines….the wedding planner! From This Day Forward is a novella prequel that gives us a brief intro to the successful ladies of the Wedding Belles. These successful, no-nonsense women create incredible events to stun celebrities and commoners alike.

From This Day Forward gives us a glimpse into their world through the eyes of two of their most trusted business partners. Leah and Jason are wedding photographers and incredibly good at what they do. They’re also former lovers, with unresolved feelings and a common assignment to photograph the wedding of the year. It’s a wild ride to discover if they can they make it through without ripping each other apart or ripping each others’ clothes off!

As is common with novellas, it didn’t always feel like there was enough time given to the characters or their story. I found myself wanting more. I wish there had been more time for the storylines and the characters. But, I guess it’s a good thing to finish a book and still be wanting more. The good news is this novella is just a small taste of whats to come. I’m intrigued by the world and the characters that are being created and I’m certainly ready for the first full-length story in the Wedding Belles series…..Coming soon!

I think this might be the very best/most appropriate title of a book ever! This book is absolutely DIRTY! One of the steamiest books I’ve read in a long time with a hero who is ALL ALPHA! Whoa!

Meghan March writes great books.

That’s really the bottom line. Meghan March’s books NEVER disappoint. They’re interesting, character driven, enjoyable reads that provide the perfect distraction from real life.

Dirty Love is the heart-stopping conclusion to Dirty Girl and it’s everything you hope to find in a continuing storyline. It wraps up all the the cliffhanger ‘issues’ and delivers fantastic plot lines that race to a very fulfilling ending.

Oh yeah and the audio is Sebastian York…enough said!

Read BFF K’s review of Dirty Girl

Desperately seeking rich, famous, single guy with a giant cock to make my lying, cheating, should’ve-been-born-dickless ex-boyfriend realize what he’s just lost.

Oh, and I give great head. Just sayin’.

No man in his right mind would answer that ad.

Except thousands did.

My name is Greer Karas, and I should never be allowed near another bottle of booze again. Because when I drink, my friend and I do stupid things. Like take a page out of my older brother Creighton’s playbook and post something completely asinine on the Internet. Waking up with a giant hangover to find my humiliating personal ad has gone viral is not my finest moment.

Cue my look of shock when one of Hollywood’s hottest new bad boys, Cavanaugh Westman, comes knocking at my door and drops his pants to prove that he does indeed have a giant cock.

What he doesn’t have is an explanation for why he disappeared from my life without a word three years ago, only to show up on the big screen two years later, killing bad guys in action flicks.

And now he wants me again.

What the hell do I do now?

BFF K’s Review of PSU – Season 2, Episode 5

rating_4_80

Baby Bear is on campus and he’s absolutely darling! We get a glimpse into Clinton as a Big Brother and he’s just too perfect. Soon Bear finds that another part of his life that felt perfect is anything but; and Baby Bear drops a bomb just before he heads back home!

Ashlei is trying to figure out how to dig herself out of her myriad of messes. I don’t even know where she would begin. But, Jess makes me hella-angry in this episode. In fact, I’m pretty much furious with her and I’m not sure how I will get over it, or if I want to. She’s a complete b%*^# when she has no right to be that way.

As always, Skyler is the glue that holds this episode together and her chapter seems like the safe spot in the chaos that is #PSU Season 2, Episode 5. If your Spring Break hangover has finally eased up, you’ll be excited to check back in with the gang!

Excerpt

“Hey guys!” Cassie says cheerily when they reach us. I watch as her face transforms from ecstatic when she sees me to curious when she notices Clayton to absolutely terrified when she realizes Adam is behind us. Or maybe that’s nervous I’m seeing. Maybe both.

Something is weird between those two.

“Hey,” I greet, pulling her in for a hug. “Cassie, this is my little brother, Clayton.”

Clayton reaches out for her hand, sliding his sunglasses down his nose just enough to peek at her over the top of the shades. “Well hello, Beautiful. You can call me Baby Bear. How do you feel about younger men, sweetheart?”

Cassie’s mom blushes and covers her smile as her dad lets out a loud belly laugh. Her dad is odd-looking, sporting the same fiery red hair that Cassie has except with bronze skin and not a freckle in sight. Her mom, on the other hand, has light blonde hair and green eyes with pale skin, the apples of her cheeks peppered with freckles. It’s like Cassie is literally the perfect mix of the two.

“Damn, I need to step up my game,” Grayson says, reaching out his hand to shake Clayton’s next. “Sorry, Baby Bear, but this little lady is taken at the moment.”

Clayton shrugs. “We’ll see what the story is in four-and-a-half years when I turn eighteen.” Cassie’s parents laugh again, but Adam’s mouth is still in a thin line, his eyes hard on where Cassie’s hand is grasped firmly in Grayson’s.

About the Author

Kandi Steiner is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought up on Disney movies).

When Kandi isn’t working or writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys beach days, movie marathons, live music, craft beer and sweet wine – not necessarily in that order.

Review – Falling with Style by CM Foss

Lawrence and Steph Brooks spent years fighting their love, and then they fought their way back to each other. After earning their happy, swoon-worthy ending, they were intent on keeping it.

But a few years, a fledgling business, and a couple of kids later, Steph and Lawrence learn that falling in love was the easy part and happily ever after isn’t for sissies. With life bearing down on them, they can’t always escape the fall, but they can do it with style.

*Falling with Style is a companion novella to Swoon, but may be read as a standalone.*

BFF K’s Review of Falling with Style

rating_4_80

“The Happily Ever After is never the end, it’s just the beginning.” This is a quote from CM Foss about the premise behind Falling with Style, and I love this idea. The idea that the lives and loves of our favorite characters continue after we finish a books’ final chapter. This novella is really a continuation of Lawrence and Steph’s stories started in her previous books.

TRUE CONFESSION TIME…I haven’t read Swoon or Shiver – YET! I prove the theory that this book can be read as a stand-alone and it is perfectly enjoyable. BUT, now I am anxious to read Swoon and Shiver to get all of the back-stories that I know I’m missing.

I can relate to Lawrence and Steph. They’re busy. Full-time jobs and a full-time family, they’re trying to balance all of the important things in life and still find time for one another. There are a couple of instances of “interrupted romance” that had me laughing out loud. But, what spoke to me the most about this novella is the tenderness and commitment that Lawrence and Steph have for one another. With all of the distractions and frustrations, they love each other to the core. They’re committed to creating a joyful and fulfilling life together. That kind of love and devotion is truly a Happily Ever After.

About the Author

CM Foss is a hopeless romantic with a love for the written word. When she was little, her mom would ration her books so she wouldn’t go through them too quickly. It didn’t matter, she would just re-read. She’s always been an avid equestrian, competing in the top levels of Three Day Eventing by age seventeen. CM now resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and kids where they own and operate their own equestrian business, as well as raising grass-fed, sustainable meats. Sing.

That’s what I came to do.

I was prepared to do just that until I walked into my audition and saw him. Tall, mysterious, and gorgeous to boot, he was sitting at the coaches’ table with three others, ready to judge my performance, and decide my future. Yet, since I’d walked onto the stage, he continued to look at anything but me. So, I did the one thing I was there to do: sing. When I opened my mouth and let those words spill from my lips, he finally looked up. Those startling, dark eyes collided with mine with such intensity that I knew one thing for certain: I would never be the same.

I am Layne Carter, newest contestant on Rising Star, the biggest singing competition on reality television. Nothing can stop me from giving this show my all. Not my horrible diva roommate. Not the fact that I’m terribly homesick and miss my family. And certainly not my uncontrollable growing attraction to my coach, Beau Tanner, award winning country superstar. Nothing will stand in my way.

And I’m wrong.

Layne is a contestant on the Rising Star and has the chance to change her life if she can come away the victor of this competition. But, what she doesn’t take into account is her attraction to Beau Tanner, country music sensation and her coach!

Layne and Beau have an intense attraction. It’s fun seeing Layne try to balance that attraction and her opportunity to make it big. There are several road blocks standing in their way. Much of the book is filled with the tension of trying to figure out which obstacle will be their biggest and how they’ll overcome it. The two share a sweet romance and some absolutely butterfly-inducing, swoon-worthy moments. Layne is a great heroine and Beau is super-sweet trying to prove himself worthy of her.

There’s a surprise about 3/4 of the way through. The book allows you, the reader, to play a role in the outcome of their story. It was a fun and unexpected treat. Music Notes is an entertaining read with engaging characters, a fun premise and compelling plot twist. You won’t be disappointed if you one-click this enjoyable new release.
