Christina Lauren consistently delivers incredible books. They’re full of heart and humor, clever and charming characters and heartwarming storylines. Roomies proves the consistency of this rule! Holland and Calvin are each searching for their own fulfillment. They want to lead meaningful and enjoyable lives, but they’re both a little stuck for a variety of reasons.

They come together in a marriage of convenience that quickly becomes a marriage of love and mutual adoration. Their journey to discover themselves and discover each other is absolutely delightful. This was a combo read and listen and both were equally compelling. This title comes with a little higher price point, but it’s worth every penny!

BFF K’s Quick Review of First Grave on the Right

I LOVE the Sookie Stackhouse, True Blood series by Charlaine Harris. First Grave on the Right is the closest thing I’ve read to Sookie in the last several years! It is campy, entertaining and fun. The premise of the Heroine being the Grim Reaper is unique and interesting. The storyline is fast-paced and amusing. I did a combo read and listen and both were super enjoyable! If you’re looking for something different, particularly paranormal romance, I strongly recommend checking this one out!

This book will not lead you to any earth-shattering secrets of the meaning of life. But, it will bring you joy and smiles and butterflies and happily ever after romance. I definitely recommend this series, especially the audio version of the book.

BFF K’s Review of Mister Hockey

I loved this book! Mister Hockey by Lia Riley is a fun and flirty, super sweet rom-com! It reads like a Hallmark movie and I loved every second of it. This is a really quick read. I skated through the pages and adored every silly and sassy minute!

Jed West, God’s gift to hockey, walks out of Breezy Angel’s dreams and right into her library. Soon, he’s in her house and in her bed. They are crashing family picnics and revealing all their secrets. The connection they share is powerful, fast, and quickly burning up the sheets.

Jed West’s stomach curdled faster than overheated hollandaise sauce as he squinted at the menu for Zachary’s, Denver’s most popular all-day breakfast hangout. Ghost-like shadows haunted the specials list, blurring the descriptions for peanut butter French toast, country fried steak benedict and sweet potato pancakes. Ah, shit. Not fucking now. There went the prices too–the dollar signs and numbers blurring until barely legible.

No point blinking. He knew the drill. Jaw tight, he reached for his orange juice, took a swig and waited. Short bouts of double vision had dogged him ever since Game Seven, the pattern the same. After a minute or two, his focus would snap back to normal as if nothing had happened. Until then, he needed to follow one of coach’s favorite axioms: “Suck it up, Buttercup.”

Who cared about the damn menu anyway? He pushed it to one side, having already ordered the “Manwich”, chorizo and eggs smashed between a jalapeno cheddar biscuit–the kind of breakfast that wanted to kill you in the best kind of ways–and crunched ice. Too bad the cubes didn’t pass on their chill, because this. . .situation for lack of a better word, was getting under his skin and it shouldn’t.

No–Scratch that. It couldn’t.

Unexplained double vision wasn’t a walk in the park, but facts were facts. And the ugly truth was that if he didn’t quit batting his lashes like Scarlett O’Hara with a fly in her skirt, The Post’s toughest sports columnist would glance up from across the table, mistake his tic for a cheesedick wink, and go Lord of the Flies on his nut sack.

At least for the moment, Neve Angel was occupied. She hunched over her digital voice recorder, dark bangs obscuring her sharp gaze as she fiddled with the control settings. Her lips moved to the upbeat Buddy Holly song piping over the sound system while she plucked a mic from her messenger bag. His vision came back online in time for him to read the orange button pinned to the front.

No doubt the eye thing was fatigue-related, an inevitable toll from the grueling NHL season and subsequent hard-fought playoffs. Everything would be all right in the end. If it wasn’t all right, it wasn’t the end.

“You plan on telling me what’s up with Mount Napkin Shreds?” Neve leaned her elbows on the recycled wood tabletop, a signal they were shifting into interview mode. Her brows arched beneath her thick-cut bangs. “Nervous about being in the hot seat, princess?”

“Yeah, terrified,” he answered laconically, not missing a beat. Hiding his true feelings behind a mask of confidence was a reflex; it came with the territory of having the “C” stitched on the front of his jersey. A good captain never showed fear to an opponent. “A jackal’s bark is worse then it’s bite.”

“Jackal? Don’t tell me you’re using Gunnarisms now.” She rolled her eyes. “And I’d so wanted to enjoy my bagel without gagging.”

The Hellions Head Coach, Tor Gunnar, had a reputation for dismissing the press as “jackals.” He fostered a tense relationship with journalists, in particular, the tiny woman sitting opposite. Neve had run a piece on his divorce a few years ago. He retaliated by refusing to call on her during press conferences. Neve hit back with increasingly critical op-eds. Their mutual enmity had devolved to the stuff of local legend.

BFF K’s Review of The Foxe and the Hound

BFF K’s Review of When It’s Real

Oakley Ford and Vaughn Bennett could not be more different. At least that’s what it looks like to those on the outside. And, it shocks Oakley’s Fandom when he begins a relationship with Vaughn. After all, she’s NORMAL, just like them. But, the fans don’t know that this relationship begins as a set up. It’s 100% promotion meant to clean up Oakley’s bad boy image. The feelings and emotions shared by Oak and Vaughn are soon very real, but neither quite know what to do When It’s Real.

The dynamic duo that is Erin Watt (Jen Frederick and Elle Kennedy) is absolutely fantastic yet again! They have delivered another story with compelling characters and an engaging storyline that will draw you in and leave you wanting more! When It’s Real is more of a slow burn than the intense, fast-pace of the Royals Series by Erin Watt. But, the story is interesting and the characters possess the same wit, charm and banter that I expect from these authors.

When It’s Real is billed as more of a Young Adult read. The character’s ages are definitely YA, however there are a couple of steamy-ish scenes (that I loved) that would prevent me from handing it over to the 16-year-olds I know. I actually wish that the characters would have been a little older and the book skewed New Adult instead. BUT, that being said, I still loved the book.

If you’re looking for a wonderful story with characters that you’ll fall in love with while they fall in love with each other, When It’s Real is a must one-click! I hope Erin Watt plans to write many, many, many, many more books together because I want to read them all!

BFF K’s Review of Plus One

This book is billed as the “lighter side of Aleatha Romig” and it is definitely that! Not a creeper or mind-twisting plotline in sight. And, that makes me REALLY happy! BFF A loves Aleatha’s darker, twisted reads. I’ve met Aleatha at a book signing or two and really really like her, but I just don’t read the twisted stuff. So, I jumped at the opportunity to check out Plus One and get my own look at Aleatha’s characters and stories. It was just what I hoped for!

If you’re a fan of Rom-Com, you’ll love this book. Kimbra and Duncan have the forbidden workplace romance and fake boyfriend tropes all teed up. The story is nothing shocking or perplexing, but it’s light, feel-good, fun! Kimbra is a strong independent woman who has harbored a secret crush on her boss since day one. But, she’s also professional and too-cool-for-school so he has no idea. Likewise, Duncan remembers everything about Kimbra including what she wore into his office the day she was hired. But, he’s never acted on that attraction. Throw them together for a get-away weekend wedding and things get steamy. Immediately steamy!

This book is so close to a 5-Review for me, but it ended too quickly. There were one or two issues in the end that threatened the couple and their relationship. I just don’t think the ideas were flushed out quite well enough. It was wrapped up a little too cleanly. The story itself was so well developed along with the characters that I just felt like the end was rushed.

This book has some fantastic supporting characters. (I hope there are more stories coming for the connected characters.) Grandma Helen might be my favorite book-Grandma ever; she’s feisty and oh-so-funny! The steamy scenes are great and there’s plenty of romance and butterflies. Plus, there’s an HEA that definitely delivers! On the whole, I definitely recommend “Aleatha’s Lighter Side” for rom-com lovers. About the Author

Aleatha Romig is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today bestselling author who lives in Indiana, USA. Review of Becoming Us & A Broken Us

I sort of love that the beginning of the London Lovers series starts in the middle of America. College sweethearts Brody and Finley are a perfect match. From their inside jokes to their unique term of endearment everything about this couple fits! Becoming Us is a sweet new adult, coming of age story. Becoming Us also introduces the reader to Leslie who is the London connection for the rest of the stories.

A Broken Us is a bit of a heartrending tale about a trial in the love of Brody and Finley. The storyline and emotions are so well written that I sent a message to the Amy Daws gushing about how perfect the sentiments are! Anyone who has been impacted by infertility will see a piece of themselves in this story. It is incredibly well done and the conclusion is immensely fulfilling!

This duet is a great start to the London Lovers series. But they’re also entertaining books that stand on their own.

Leslie is a fantastic character I absolutely love her! She is bold and adventurous but kind, conscientious, and caring at the same time. She bumps into Frank early in her London adventures and one of the best gay-BFF charactersl is born! I think that Frank might be my favorite part of the London overs series!

When Leslie meets Theo, Sparks fly! And those she tries to resist him there is no way to deny that they belong together!

From Frank’s seven-day-cleanse to the stressors from Theos family, their relationship is tested early on. But it lays the perfect foundation and solidifies their lust/love-at-first-sight story. London Bound is an absolutely fantastic romance placed in an idyllic setting. This book absolutely hooks you on the series and you won’t want to wait to learn all the answers!

BFF K’s Review of Blush for Me

I anxiously await each new release in the Fusion Series. I am confident that Kristen Proby will deliver a solid romance with a self-assured, capable, female heroine and a swoony, thoughtful alpha-hero. Blush for Me is a terrific continuation to this excellent series.

Kat is my favorite kind of heroine. She’s smart, confident and a little quirky. She’s not on-the-hunt for a man but can’t resist when Mac whooshes into her world. Mac is my favorite type of hero. He is strong, capable, gallant and not intimidated by a woman who possesses similar qualities. He is also an absolute ALPHA in the steamy scenes. And, those steamy scenes are fantastic!

Blush for Me is a quick and fulfilling, character-driven story with excellent supporting characters that surround the hero and heroine. The story has a suspenseful element that spices things up toward the end and brings the book to a very fulfilling conclusion. I definitely recommend all of the books in the Fusion Series. AND to top it off, the audio version features Abby Craden and SEBASTIAN YORK. It’s a GREAT listen; and you should definitely add Blush for Me to your TBR/TBL list!

“You’re going to have a great time.” She hugs me close. “There are lots of signs and people to ask if you get lost in there, but it’s not a big airport, so you should be fine. Call me when you get there.”

“If I get there,” I say and sigh deeply. “Why do I feel like I’m never going to see you again?”

“Because you’re being dramatic,” she replies and smiles brightly. “Have fun!”

And with that, she waves and drives away and I’m left alone to figure out this airport hell.

But Riley was right. Checking in and dropping my bag off is easy. Finding security is easy.

Getting frisked by the TSA guy would have been more fun if he’d looked like Charlie Hunnam, but then again, everything would be more fun with Charlie.

I follow the signs, find my gate, and am pleasantly surprised to find a bar directly across from it.

There is a god.

But once at the bar, I’m just too nervous to drink.

That’s a first.

Who in the hell gets too nervous to drink? This girl, apparently.

So I wander back to the gate and pace, dragging my small black hard-sided suitcase with red cherries on it behind me. People glance my way, but I ignore them. I’m used to it. You don’t dress the way I do, covered in sleeve tattoos, and not get looks.

Finally, my flight is called and they begin boarding. Before I know it, I’m sitting on the plane, three rows from the front—if I’m going to die, it’s going to be in first class—in the aisle seat.

“Hello,” the man next to me says. I glance his way, taking in his light brown hair and green eyes, and if we were anywhere but here, I would totally flirt with him.

But we’re on a motherfucking airplane.

“Hi,” I reply and swallow hard. The flight attendant asks us if we’d like anything to drink before we take off, but I shake my head no and stare at the pilot sitting in the cock pit. “Don’t they close that door?”

“Right before we take off,” my travel companion says. I’m surprised that I spoke aloud. “Hey, are you okay?”

“Fine.”

He’s silent for a moment and I keep staring at the pilot. I want to march up there and tell him to make sure that we get there in one piece. What are his credentials, anyway? I want to see his license, and a few letters of recommendation wouldn’t hurt either.

“I’m Mac.” I slide my eyes to him and nod, then whip my gaze back to the front.

“Kat.”
