Review – Royally Matched by Emma Chase

RM-FB-on-sale-5

Royally-Matched-3D-bookSome men are born responsible, some men have responsibility thrust upon them. Henry Charles Albert Edgar Pembrook, Prince of Wessco, just got the motherlode of all responsibility dumped in his regal lap.

He’s not handling it well.

Hoping to force her grandson to rise to the occasion, Queen Lenora goes on a much-needed safari holiday—and when the Queen’s away, the Prince will play. After a chance meeting with an American television producer, Henry finally makes a decision all on his own:

Welcome to Matched: Royal Edition.

A reality TV dating game show featuring twenty of the world’s most beautiful blue bloods gathered in the same castle. Only one will win the diamond tiara, only one will capture the handsome prince’s heart.

While Henry revels in the sexy, raunchy antics of the contestants as they fight, literally, for his affection, it’s the quiet, bespectacled girl in the corner—with the voice of an angel and a body that would tempt a saint—who catches his eye.

The more Henry gets to know Sarah Mirabelle Zinnia Von Titebottum, the more enamored he becomes of her simple beauty, her strength, her kind spirit…and her naughty sense of humor.

But Rome wasn’t built in a day—and irresponsible royals aren’t reformed overnight.

As he endeavors to right his wrongs, old words take on whole new meanings for the dashing Prince. Words like, Duty, Honor and most of all—Love.

BFF K’s Review of Royally Matched

rating_6_70

Sweet, surprising and spit-out-your-soda-FUNNY! I adored EVERYTHING about Royally Matched.

It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for a royal romance. I also loved Royally Screwed, the first book in this series. Royally Matched takes this series and my “royal standards” to a whole new level.

Henry is a rogue. He’s mischievous, impulsive and unsettled. His new position as next-in-line to be the King of Wessco hasn’t really changed him all that much; unless you count the additional insomnia and stress. In an effort to reclaim a bit of his life before he received the weight of the crown; he signs up to star in a reality dating show. Enter sweet and studious Sarah. She’s the epitome of the shy and sexy librarian. And, Henry can’t help falling in love with her.

Their romance is tender and charming, born of mutual attraction and heart-felt respect. They are a perfect match each bringing out the best in the other. Henry and Sarah create a motion-picture-perfect love story that will have you up all night and sneaking reads during the day. I enjoyed a combo – Kindle/Audiobook read of the story and it was a fantastic complete experience. If you enjoy audiobooks, this one is terrific! Royally Matched is one royal romance it would be treasonous to miss!

Reviews – Not the One & That One Moment from Amy Daws

My name is Reyna Miracle.
Even though a part of my name is Miracle, there’s nothing miraculous about me.
My body portrays the tales of my life.
Every feeling, every heartbreak, every emotion.
Marked. Inked. Stained.
A walking canvas of my messed up truth.

But there’s one confession I can’t put in a tattoo.
A confession that will kill me to tell, but my best friend died before I had the chance.

Now I’m left with him.
The only one who can hold me in the night and squeeze that spot on my neck that feels like my lifeline between sanity and chaos.

But we don’t work together.
We’re absolute poison for each other.
We’re a stifling, suffocating, sickness of darkness.

But I feel safe…because I’ve made an art of pushing people away.

Now he’s pushing back…
And making me believe…
Making me wonder…
Maybe, just maybe…
I could be the one.

Life is a series of reoccurring ripples in time.
The moment I saw her…something shifted.
The moment my lips touched hers…life got messy.
The moment my heart got involved…everything changed.

Vi Harris tests every bit of my strength.
She is my test.
My challenge.
At a time when I should be focusing entirely on myself, this radiant woman with a bright, cheeky smile and a cracked sense of humor waltzes in and spins everything on its axis.
She has the potential to make me weak at a time when I’m determined to show everyone just how bloody strong I am.

Yet somehow, she sees me differently.
She see’s right through my darkness.
My pain.
My despair.
She doesn’t see me as broken.
She sees me as the man I’m fighting so hard to be.
The man that I’m still struggling to see myself.
But resisting her is proving to be even more difficult than my past…

BFF K’s Reviews of Not The One & That One Moment

rating_4.5

Not the One is a complicated story of love and loss, making the wrong decisions, and making things right. Reyna is incredibly complex as are her relationships with everyone in her life. There’s her BFF Hayden, her BFF Marissa, her mother and Liam. What a tangled web of angst and heartbreak. But, Reyna is a fighter and she fights her way out of the darkness that threatens to overtake them all. And the light at the end of the tunnel looks a lot like love! The story is wonderful and the audio narration is solid. I definitely recommend adding this to your TBL! (To Be Listened)

That One Moment is the beautiful story of two souls who come together to be a part of something larger than either one alone. Hayden believes he is damaged and broken. But, Vi doesn’t see him that way. She recognizes the trauma he’s experienced but sees beyond those attributes. Vi has had her own challenges and finds that her relationship with Hayden heals some of her wounds as well. The story contains a fair amount of angst, but also reveals a heartwarming romance for two people who deserve happiness. The audiobook is presented in duet style narration and is an absolutely joy to listen to! You don’t want to miss the story or the listening experience!

Review – Real Good Love by Meghan March

Real duet complete series

real-good-love-amazonFrom USA Today bestselling author Meghan March comes a sexy new duet with a hero you won’t want to miss.

I’ve had my fair share of bad boys, but nothing prepared me for what it was like to be with a real good man.

Logan Brantley changed everything.

Somewhere along the way, what started as a fling became the best part of my life.

He makes me want all the things I’ve never had, like forever and happily ever after, but nothing worth having comes easily.

Everyone is betting on us to fail, but I’m ready to fight for this real good love.

Real Good Love is the conclusion of the Real Duet and should be read following Real Good Man.

BFF K’s Review of Real Good Love

rating_5_80

Real Good Love is…..REALLY GOOD! I am absolutely loving everything about this Duet. I LOVE the characters, the story, the writing, the plot-twists, the steamy scenes, and the overall romance of the book(s).

Logan and Banner are sensational – great individual characters and an even better couple. Their dialogue and banter are crisp, witty and funny. I would love an entire book full of nothing but their text messages. Logan is pretty much the PERFECT book boyfriend – all alpha, protective, passionate, hard-working, sweet and charming.  Banner is sharp and sarcastic, bold and vulnerable, smart, successful and sweet. They’re opposites who are made for each other.

Real Good Love is the flawless conclusion to a superb story! I’m jealous of anyone who gets to read this duet for the first time because it’s so much fun!  I did a combo read/listen of Real Good Love with the Kindle Version and the Audiobook. Both are stellar, but the audio is my most favorite narrating team of Sebastian York and Elena Wolfe and it is a treat for the ears!

While both Real Good Man and Real Good Love received 5-Ratings, I’m giving the duet a rare 6-Rating because the two together are just that….GOOD!

Excerpt

I’m a woman on a mission when I step off my last flight at six o’clock at night, annoyed it took me an entire freaking day to get here since I made my plans at the last minute. As soon as I leave the rental car desk, I’m headed for my first destination. Logan’s shop.

He’s never going to know what hit him. My skirt is short, my heels are tall, and my hair, skin, and nails are perfect from the pampering I managed to sneak in this week.

I pull into the parking lot an hour and a half later, mostly because I was so busy singing along to every kick-ass female anthem on my playlist that I missed the turn and went fifteen miles in the wrong direction.

But no one needs to know that little detail.

The lights are still on, and Logan’s truck is parked in its normal spot alongside the building. No other cars remain in the lot.

I pull out my phone and switch it out of airplane mode. I told myself I kept it there all day because I was worried about the safety of my flights and obviously because of the FAA regulations, but that’s total bull.

I didn’t trust myself not to answer what must be at least a few messages from Logan. I wanted this to be a surprise. Like when Logan thought I might be pregnant, this is a discussion that needs to happen in person.

A few text messages pop up from him immediately, and they’re progressively more . . . let’s call it assertive.

My Sexy Man: Bruce, call me.

My Sexy Man: Seriously, babe. Call me.

My Sexy Man: CALL ME.

My Sexy Man: This radio silence shit will not fly. Call me, Bruce.

My Sexy Man: Banner Regent, don’t even try to dodge me. I know where you are, and I will come to you and show you how a real man handles this situation.

A smile spreads over my face. I’ve come to terms with a few things in the last twenty-four hours, and one of them is that I don’t care if I’m the first one to say those words I’ve been holding back. I love Logan Brantley, and I’m not going to let another day go by without telling him. To his face.

After I park, I slide out of the car, careful not to pull a Britney and flash anyone my vag because I’m going commando under this skirt, and strut my ass up to the entrance.

I push on the door that opens into the waiting room, but it doesn’t budge. Locked. Well, dammit, that’s not part of my plan. I bang on it, but no one comes. The beat of whatever rock song he’s listening to is thumping through the walls.

I pull my phone out of my wristlet and text him back.

Banner: Open the damn door.

A response pops up in seconds.

My Sexy Man: What door?

Banner: I’m waiting.

Fall for a woman over text messages? No way in hell.

Reality can never be as good at the fantasy, right?

Wrong. It’s better.

Banner Regent is smart, funny, and she’s so far out of my league, she might as well be royalty.

I’m a mechanic from Kentucky. She’s a New York City party girl.

We were never supposed to meet, but one text started something neither of us saw coming.

How do you seduce the woman who already has everything?

BFF K’s Review of Burning Moon

rating_4.5

On her wedding day, Lilly is left at the Church with 500 guests and a note from her fiancé that he “just can’t”. She decides to take her honeymoon trip to Thailand by herself. (The process of getting there is a hoot!) Lilly meets Damien early on in the trip and fate continually brings them together. The book is an entertaining, enjoyable, slow burn with beautiful settings and a big pay off!

Burning Moon is full of very strong character development. You get a very clear understanding of who Lilly is and why she behaves and thinks certain ways. You understand why she is cautious and conservative. But it is easy for the reader to see that her true personality may not be reflected in those behaviors. There is a fun, lighthearted, and lively side to Lilly that she doesn’t even fully understand. Damien brings out a side of Lilly that embraces spontaneity and passion. He is her opposite but her complement at the same time. Thailand is a brief but intense interaction that is a life altering for both.

Burning Moon is really about more than just a trip and a chance encounter. It is a tale of self-discovery, understanding, and self-acceptance. There are parts of the book that are poignant and heart wrenching but also parts that are hysterically funny. I enjoyed the audio version of this book and found myself frequently laughing out loud and grinning like a fool!

If you are looking for a book with a unique premise, a fun setting, great dialogue, and lovely characters I highly recommend you try Burning Moon in any format including audio. It’s definitely one for the TBR list! Now I’m looking forward to the next book in the series to learn about one of Lilly’s best friends, Annie. Another character and another adventure!

Excerpt

There are moments in a person’s life that change everything. Shake things up. Steer you in a different direction and push you onto another course, toward different people, places and things. These moments don’t come around often, but when they do, they rip through the very fabric of your world.

I knew that this was one of those moments. I knew this, because I’d had one of them before when I was twelve.

Ever since that age, I’d known exactly what I wanted from life. I had planned it down to a T, to the second, to the minutest detail imaginable. The reason for this, I guess, was that I’d been shown a very good example of how not to live—thanks to my dramatic mother. She was a theatre actress of some fame and status, which was something she liked to remind everyone of…constantly. After she divorced my dad when I was five, I endured what can only be described as hell. We moved around frequently, from one play to the next, one rehearsal to the next, one man to the next. The musician, the actor, the director, her yoga teacher, her voice coach and even some magician who turned out to be a criminal. When they locked him up, he vowed to escape, as “no handcuff could hold him.” To my knowledge he’s still there.

My mother had terrible taste in men. She was drawn to bad men like a hippie was drawn to tie-dyed T-shirts and world peace. She also had some rather terrible hobbies: drunken, scantily clad parties laced with cocaine were a regular occurrence. On many occasions, while on my way to school, I’d have to navigate my way through a sea of unconscious bodies lying limp and littered across our living floor. My dad finally won the custody battle when I was twelve, and that’s when everything changed for the better.

I moved into an ordered world of perfect symmetry and seamlessly structured routine. A beautiful, neat home with a stepmom who drove me to school and cheered me on at hockey practice and two older stepbrothers who adored me. We took holidays twice a year to the same place, our beach cottage on the beautiful Natal Coast of South Africa, and ate the same meals on the same days of the week. My new life was predictable and I loved it. My “new” family took me under their wing as if I were a damaged little bird, which at the time I was.

I loved my new life so much that I vowed mine would be exactly the same. Everything would have its place and everything would fall in line with my plan.

Michael had been part of that plan:

Law school. Work at my dad’s firm. Married by twenty-five (at the latest). First child by twenty-six. Two boys and two girls. Live in a double-story house in a leafy suburb not too far away from my family. Vacations at the cottage. Roast chicken on Sundays.

But in less than twenty-four hours, my entire plan had gone up in a puff of stinking smoke. I wasn’t just “not getting married,” I was losing everything that I’d meticulously planned for since the age of twelve. And then another thought hit me. A memory that made my body ache.

“Won’t it be romantic if we conceived our baby on our honeymoon?” Michael had said one night.

I rubbed my throat. The lump that was forming made it hard to swallow.

I started to cry again. I grabbed the remote and randomly pressed buttons until I got to the nature channel…

Swirling, turquoise waters. White sands made luminescent by a low-hanging tropical sun. Massive palms, swaying seductively in the cool sea breeze and gentle waves lapping on the shore. It all looked so peaceful. So beautiful and, most importantly, so remote.

So, so far away from the farce that had just become my life.

And then a thought hit me. It was so decisive, and it slammed into me with such force that I almost fell off the couch in shock. It was also, by far, the craziest thought I’d ever had in all my twenty-four years on this planet. A part of me couldn’t believe it was even mine.

I was going to go on my honeymoon! Alone.

Audiobook Review – First & Goal: Queen of the League by Laura Chapman

When Harper Duquaine’s no-nonsense approach to work unintentionally ruffles the wrong feathers at her new job, she joins her co-workers’ fantasy football league to prove she can hang with the guys. Only problem: she doesn’t know a sleeper from a keeper (or any of the other lingo thrown her way).

Embroiled in a world of lineups, stats, and trades, Harper’s quest to make nice topples when her competitive streak emerges. And her promise to herself that she’ll be a strong, independent woman and leave the drama and heartache behind is seriously tested when she catches the attention of her two biggest competitors: J.J., a local celebrity determined to win a fantasy championship, and Brook, the mild-mannered coach who seems too good to be true. Both threaten her resolve to remain single… and, more importantly, her chances at winning the prize pool.

With a slew of conflicting advice in her real and fantasy worlds, Harper must figure out how to play the game and come out a winner.

BFF K’s Review of First & Goal: Queen of the League

rating_5_80

I loved this book! I was fortunate to receive a code for the audiobook version. And I was delighted and charmed from the beginning to the end.

Harper is positively irresistible! She is smart, hard-working, sassy, quirky, and absolutely hilarious. (Though I’m not sure she always intends to be so funny.) In an attempt to win over some of her coworkers and distract them from her super-organized, workaholic tendencies; she spontaneously agrees to join their fantasy football league. The trials and tribulations of her weekly fantasy match-ups are comical!

With the new league, her social circle expands significantly. Enter Brook. Multi-time league champion, high school football coach, and hunky, sweet, specimen-of-a-man; Brook is a dream! And Brooke and Harper soon find themselves in a budding relationship that exists both inside and outside of the league.

This book made me laugh out loud. There were several parts that had me in tears – and not the sad kind. First & Goal: Queen of the League is smart, sassy, funny and romantic. The book is set in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was so much fun reading about characters in a setting that I know so well. Lincoln is a sports town, especially for football. And it provided the perfect backdrop for this story. The football parts of the story are smartly written but can be enjoyed by a football pro or rookie. And, if you or anyone you know has ever participated in Fantasy Football, you will really get a kick out of this!

First & Goal: Queen of the League is one of my favorite books from this year. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire thing from start to finish. If you are looking for a sports romance, with great characters and LOL-moments, this one will definitely deliver.

Audiobook Review – FU Cancer by Hilaria Alexander

Title: FU Cancer
Author: Hilaria Alexander
Narrator: Elizabeth Klett
Length: 10 hrs and 44 mins
Release Date: Nov 24, 2016

Lucy has always been a good girl. The most hardcore thing she’s done in her life was falling for a divorced man 10 years her senior.

But he was the love of her life, and she married him. When her Peter Pan of a husband decided to divorce her, she thought it was her chance to start anew. That was until she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Besides looking like Britney circa 2007, she is taking it well, real well. You might see her walk around the hospital during chemo sessions with bright colored wigs and outrageous t-shirts that seem to shock the most conservative employees. One of them reads FU CANCER.

BFF K’s Review of FU Cancer

rating_4.5

Who would have ever imagined that a book with the title, “FU Cancer” would be so funny and so full of hope? Because of my aversion to angst, I had avoided this book though it came highly recommended during its original release. When I was offered the opportunity to review the audio, I took it and I’m so glad I did. This book was nothing like I had imagined it might be.

I put myself in Lucy’s shoes quite often as I listened. I imagined what life would be like for me if I was in Lucy’s position. Would I handle a cancer diagnosis with the same grace and style (best wigs and t-shirts ever) that she did? (I hope that I would and I also hope that I never find out.) Lucy’s world is rocked as the recent divorcee begins treatment for breast cancer. But, she’s soon caught off guard by the most beautiful man who is drawn to her for reasons she can’t understand. Their relationship is tested by life and her disease. They must determine if what they feel for one another is real and strong enough to go the distance.

Cancer is essentially one of the main characters in the story, but it is not the sole defining element. Working through the diagnosis, treatment and life after cancer with Lucy is scary and a little sad, but it is also uplifting and joyful. I wondered how you could find romance in a story of a young cancer patient undergoing treatment. But, this book is full of romance and love. I think this is a storyline that will be in the back of my mind for quite some time. If you’re looking for an emotional read that packs a powerful, positive, thought-provoking punch, I highly recommend, FU Cancer.

AND, Elizabeth Klett does a commendable job as the narrator. I think this might be the first audio I’ve listened to with her narrations, but I will definitely seek out more! There are so many great reasons to read FU Cancer, be sure to add it to your TBR/TBL (To Be Listened to) today!

Audiobook Review – Jed Had to Die by Tara Sivec

The happiest day of Payton Lambert’s life was the day she graduated high school and watched Bald Knob, Kentucky, get smaller and smaller in her rearview mirror. She wanted more for her life than a tiny town where everyone knows your business and you can’t find a decent cup of coffee for at least 40 miles. Twelve years later an unexpected phone call in the middle of the night has her packing up her life in Chicago and racing back home to the one person she ever regretted leaving behind.

Upon her return she sees that Leo Hudson, the scrawny boy who had followed Payton around like a puppy and could recite cow insemination facts in his sleep, is long gone. Leo is still hot on her heels, but now he’s wearing a sheriff badge and dead set on solving a murder that may or may not involve Payton, along with half the town. In a town where the biggest crime happened the day someone kicked a few of his cows, people are pointing fingers, rumors are spreading like wildfire, and Payton swears she’s only making out with the sweet-talking, studly sheriff to distract him from the secrets she’s keeping.

When you’ve been tased, peed on by a yippy dog named Bo Jangles, and can’t stop picturing what Sheriff Hudson looks like naked, it will be a tough job making everyone agree that Jed had to die.

BFF K’s Review of Jed Had To Die

rating_5_80

I LOVE Jed Had to Die so much! It is clever, unique, sarcastic and LOL-funny! And I don’t use LOL as a throw-away-term, this book honestly had me laughing so long and so loud that I would have to stop and rewind the audio!

When Payton Lambert comes to the aid of her childhood BFF Emma Jo, that means stepping back into the town she’s been avoiding for YEARS. It seems Emma Jo has been in a horrible marriage. Payton had no idea, but will now do everything in her power to make sure that it is over. The two have a heart-warming friendship. Then there’s super-sweet and swoony Leo….he’s charming and delightful. Bald Knob is full of quirky and kooky characters. They can judge their own folks, but you’d better not! They are a devoted bunch who come together to stand by one another.

I have long loved the Dixie Chicks song, Earl Had to Die. Imagine the premise behind that song (below in case you can’t remember) expanded to include full characters, backstory, a new romance and a little mystery. You’ll be humming this chorus for days, but soon find that “Jed” replaces “Earl”!

I think everyone needs bits of this story in their own lives: a friendship like Payton and Emma Jo, a love like Leo, a town like Bald Knob and a little Liquid Crack! If you want a story that is absolutely hilarious, engaging and delightful, Jed Had to Die is PERFECTION!

ONE SNOWY NIGHT
Heartbreaker Bay #2.5
Jill Shalvis
Releasing Nov 8th, 2016

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Heartbreaker Bay with a fun and festive holiday novella!
It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

BFF K’s Review of One Snowy Night

rating_4.5

One Snowy Night is a delightful, charming story that is perfect for the holiday season! It’s a quick read (or listen) that is full of heart and Christmas Spirit!

Rory and Max have a history and it’s one that dates way before the time they bumped into one another in San Francisco. Horrible memories of High School plague them both. But a quick trip back to memory lane (their old home town) will reveal a few hidden secrets.

This little novella plays out like the perfect Hallmark Christmas Movie (so you know I’ve got to love it!) If you’re looking for a sweet, heartwarming, romantic, holiday-love-story, One Snowy Night is the perfect gift to buy yourself! And, if you’re too swamped to read, purchase the terrific audio and enjoy it while you’re wrapping all the presents!

But after she finds Luke’s mom outside, lost, and alone, she can’t refuse when he hires her on the spot. Unbeknownst to Luke, Roberta is all too familiar with the violent tendencies of the pitcher who hit him.

Now that they’re living under the same roof, the last thing either of them is looking for is a relationship. But it’s not long before they find themselves drawn to each other. And right when Luke is thinking about finally making a change to his single status, a secret from Roberta’s past emerges with the power to tear them apart.

BFF K’s Review of Single – Audiobook

rating_4_80

I love Luke Singleton! If you love the Sports Romance genre, specifically baseball. You’ll be very pleased with this overall story. If I look at this book/audiobook as a whole, I am overall pleased with the story. If I pick it apart, not as much.

I really like Luke’s storyline and Luke’s character! He’s an athlete coming back from an injury dealing with some pretty serious stuff in his home life. But, he’s helped through it all by Roberta. She’s kind, caring, compassionate and it’s impossible for her to resist those same characteristics in Luke. The baseball, recovery and romance aspects of this story were spot on and I really really enjoyed them.

There were a couple of things that bothered me. Please take them with a grain of salt. Semi-Spoiler-Alert: There is an adoption storyline toward the end of this book. Many of you may know that our son is adopted and this is a very personal issue for me. There were just too many inconsistencies for me between the story and real life. I couldn’t reconcile the inconsistencies and it made it hard for me to enjoy the ending of the story. But, if this isn’t an personal issue for you, I think the conclusion could be really fulfilling, so don’t let this stop you if that’s not an hot button for you!

I love audiobooks. I listen to 2-3 a week, some are better than others and I’m able to overcome a lot of small annoyances. I loved the male narrator! I think he did an excellent job and I enjoyed his interpretation of the story. However, I did not care for the female narrator. Her voice had an awkward cadence. She maintained that rhythm regardless of the content of the sentences and dialogue. I would often find myself re-phrasing the passages in my head so they made better sense. And, I could never match her voice with the images in my head of the characters.

I think this is one instance where I would have liked to read the book more than listen to the audio. I’m basing my ratings on the overall story. I would say this is a good, solid, sports romance that delivers what you’re expecting from the genre. If you can be forgiving about some oddities in narration, I think this is a story you can really enjoy.

About The Author

collette_west

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball’s biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette‘s impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as manygames as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she’s not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her atcollette_west@yahoo.com.

She is the author of the New York Kings series which includes: NIGHT GAMES, GAME CHANGER, GAME ON, PERFECTGAME, INSIDE GAME and GAME WINNER.

Until New Orleans.

Until her.

She’s everything I’m not.

BFF K’s Review of Beneath These Shadows

rating_5_80

There is NO ONE who writes sexy, dominant, heart-stopping, Alpha Males like Meghan March! The newest release in the Beneath Series is further proof of this fact. And, this series has solidified Meghan’s place at the top of my always-one-click author list!

March likes her books to be full of surprises for her readers, so I’m not going to address many of the plot points or character details. Just know that the hero and heroine are sweet, sexy, strong, independent, brave, kind, caring and wonderful! I have listened to the majority of the Beneath Series on audiobook. Andi Arndt and Sebastian York are my two most favorite narrators and they make this series come to life! This series has become my #1, go-to recommendation for audio.

While Beneath These Shadows is definitely a standalone and can certainly be read on it’s own, there’s one particular part that involves all of the other heroes from the Beneath Series coming together to work on a common goal. And it made me positively giddy! If you have read the rest of the series, it is absolute perfection! And, Meghan March has built this amazing world based on New Orleans with real and fictional places mixed together. Every time I read a book from this series, I’m dying to book a trip to NOLA!

If you’re searching for an exciting, emotional, enthralling, steamy, story filled with great characters and a fabulous setting, Beneath These Shadows is a must purchase! You’ll never regret another trip to NOLA.

Excerpt

“You ever broken the law before this, Eden?”

I expected a quick and unequivocal no, but it didn’t come as fast as I thought it would.

“I don’t think so. I mean, I’m sure I have by accident sometime. I’ve jaywalked. But I’m not some kind of criminal.”

Well, that makes one of us, I thought.

My anger from earlier started to fade and be replaced by the heat of the knowledge that Eden’s naked tits were only inches from my chest, separated by water I could see right through. Last time I’d seen them under her pink bra, she’d been too fucked up for me to take advantage . . . but tonight she was completely sober.

I raised my gaze from her chest, expecting her cheeks to be red when she realized I was staring at her nipples, but she wasn’t watching my face. She was staring down at my body.

“Like what you see?”

That got her attention.

Eden jerked her head up to meet my eyes, and the blush colored her skin like I’d timed it.

“You’re . . . big.”

A booming laugh broke free from my throat at her unexpected response, and her cheeks flamed even brighter.

“No, that’s not what I meant. I mean . . . everywhere. Not just, in the . . .” She looked down, then jerked her gaze back to mine. “I’m going to shut up now.”

That kind of awkward and fumbling response couldn’t be faked, and protectiveness rose in me again. Eden was no con artist. She was a girl who couldn’t even say the word cock without turning red.

“Ain’t no shame in my game.”

She reached out a hand and covered my lips with her fingers. “Stop. You’re just making it worse. I wasn’t checking out your . . . package. I mean, I did before you got in the pool, but that’s only because I thought you’d have underwear on because who doesn’t wear underwear?” The babbling continued, and so did my laughter.

Hell, I hadn’t laughed this much since Delilah had given in to a customer’s request and tattooed a flexing veined eggplant cartoon on a client so he could send pictures of it instead of dick pics.

Eden pulled her hand back and covered her face. “I’m going to stop talking now. I seriously can’t be trusted to say anything that’s not completely humiliating when you’re standing this close to me naked.”

“I disagree, and since I’m not ready to get out and put my clothes on, you’re going to have to deal with it.”

She mumbled something under her breath.

“Come again?”

Eden pressed her lips together for a beat before saying, “I don’t know how to deal with it. This isn’t something I’ve ever dealt with before.”

A crazy thought popped into my brain. “Are you a virgin?”

If there was a red brighter than fire engine, that was the color of Eden’s cheeks. “No! Of course not. Really. I’ve touched a dick before. I mean, just the one, but it still counts. Well, I didn’t really touch it. Except, you know, inside me. Oh my God, I’m just going to shut up now.”

Realization dawned on me as her babbled protest silenced. “You’ve had sex with one guy? Once? How old are you?”

Eden turned to bolt, but instead smashed her tits into my arm. I stepped close enough so that only an inch of water separated us.

Her gaze went skyward. “This is so humiliating.”

That’s where she and I had differing opinions. “Why? Because you haven’t fucked every guy you’ve ever met? What’s wrong with that?”

Eden’s gaze snapped down to mine and her brows drew into slashes. “Hey, whoa now. You can toss that double-standard crap right in the trash. What if I had screwed every guy I ever met? Would that make me less of a person? I mean, it’s not like you probably haven’t been with dozens and dozens of women. I’m not judging you. Except for maybe that Kitty girl. I mean, really? You’ve got to have some standards.”

My laughter boomed out again across the courtyard. “Cupcake, just because I can get most any pussy I want, doesn’t mean I do it.”

“Still, double standards are—”

When she started on another tirade, I decided to silence her the best way I knew how.

I leaned down and covered her lips with mine.
