Guest Blogger MJ Review of One Wild Night

Hey BFFs!  I’m so excited to share this new release with you , a collaboration between two of my fave authors!  “One Wild Night” by A.L. Jackson and Rebecca Shea is available today. I am a big fan of both of their books, and combined, they have a whole new voice!

This romantic comedy is a steamy, fun, light-hearted, quick read.  The fast-paced story telling that Jackson and Shea developed together, is perfect for the whirlwind romance that unfolds…

Ditched at the last-minute by her bestie, Kaylee Rose Burton, a Kindergarten teacher by day, finds herself nervous and out of place on a solo trip down the red carpet at a Hollywood Premiere.  Teetering on heels that are too high, she literally falls into the arms of her big screen crush, Paxton Myles.  She is mortified by their short, awkward encounter, but Paxton is intrigued by his moment with a beautiful girl-next-door.  Paxton turns on his famous charm, and he eventually convinces usually-cautious Kaylee to give him this one night together.

One wild night, and then back to real life, Kaylee pledges to herself…  But, the Paparazzi has other plans for these two…

This is definitely a formula we know and love: In just a moment, an everyday, genuine, sweet girl catches the eye of the unattainable, womanizing celebrity heart-throb, who might want something real for a change.  But, Shea and Jackson take the formula we know, and make it their own. With lots of butterflies and plenty of heat, this is a must-read for all romantic hearts.  You will love Kay and Pax’s story.

Cheers!

BFF MJ

Bombshell was such a sweet surprise, it was my first CD Reiss story, but it definitely won’t be my last! This is a combination of the best romance tropes – Hollywood romance and single dad are combined with a little bit of the forbidden for one delightful story!

Cara DuMont is the perfect nanny. She expertly navigates the slippery Hollywood landscape by using a carefully crafted set of rules and boundaries. She’s never once been tempted to step outside those lines until she meets him. Brad Sinclair is the bad boy of tinseltown, at least that’s what everyone thinks. But, Cara can see a side of him that is deeper than the rest of the world can see. And, when he begins bonding with his daughter, Cara can’t help but feel the ties begin to bind all of them together.

Bombshell is a fantastic story with strong characters, great plot lines and plenty of heart. The audiobook is exceptional; Andi Arndt is solid as ever and Christian Fox blew me away. The dual-POV presentation enhances the story and the characters. This is definitely a must-listen story! One-click today and prepare for all the fabulousness that is Bombshell!

About the Author

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up she’s at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She’s frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn’t ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Excerpt

He was tapping on my bedroom window. It was 2:17 in the morning.

I got out of bed, dressed in sweatpants and black T-shirt and slapped the window open. He practically fell through it, adorable in his wet tuxedo and red eyes.

“You’re drunk.”

“I like you. I want you to like me.”

“Go to bed.”

He leaned back out the window, paused. “Do you like me?”

“Against my better judgment, I do.”

“Okay.”

He was so drunk he could barely stand.

“Please go to bed.”

He gave me a salute and walked right through a sprinkler, toward the front house. I closed the window. Brad was lying in the grass facedown, arms and legs in a big X, getting sprinkled on.

I could leave him out there.

I could, he deserved it. But I couldn’t.

I put on sneakers and a hoodie and went outside. He was face-first in a mud puddle. The sprinklers had shut off.

“Brad?”

He didn’t move. I pulled his arm until he was on his back, then pulled both wrists and pulled forward. If I’m making it sound easy, it wasn’t. I slipped and fell in wet grass, and grunted like a tennis player. But I got him to sitting. Half his gorgeous face was dotted with mud.

“Brad?”

No answer. I slapped him. Nothing. Slapped again, harder. He groaned.

Then I pulled my arm back and really hauled off and whacked him.

“Ow.”

“You have to wake up. I can’t carry you.”

“That hurt.”

I crouched, getting my shoulder under his arm.

“Okay, I’m going to count to three. On three, stand up.”

“Do you know you’re beautiful?”

“One.”

“And you smell like a fruit cup.”

“Two.”

He looked at me, the weight of his head tilting his face at an angle to mine.

“You’re the queen of the house.”

“Three.”

We lurched up. Took a step left. Adjusted. Stood steady.

“Can I just sleep here?”

“No. Nicole isn’t going to find your drunk ass on the lawn in the morning. Lean on me.”

We took one step forward, then two. I held his wrist with one hand and his waist with the other. The front of his tuxedo shirt was brown with mud. I got wet wherever his clothes touched me.

“Do you have fantasies, ever?” He hopped onto a new subject as if it was completely natural.

“Like about what?” I asked. His arm around me, his breath soft in my ear. Even his dependence was kind of a fantasy.

“You know what bothers me about fantasies?”

“Watch this chair here. Whoa.” I pulled him left, narrowly missing tripping over a lounger.

“You never know if you’re getting it right,” he said.

I turned to him, and found his eyes taking up my entire field of vision and my nose two inches from his.

“Like when I fantasize about fucking you.”

We almost tripped on the entrance. I swallowed my lungs, stomach, and heart in one gulp. He was drunk. He didn’t mean it. He never thought about fucking me.

Not Brad Sinclair.

He was my boss.

Excerpt from Lost In Scotland

August

“It’s so beautiful, Mom.” I pointed the camera of my phone to the scenery in front of me.

“I can see that. It’s just as stunning as you see on TV. So green.”

“It’s almost too much to take in all at once.”

Scotland was intimidating in a mysterious kind of way. California was what I had known all my life, and I’d barely even spent any time around the United States. Save a few times in London with my father and my siblings to visit my grandparents, I hadn’t been anywhere else in the world. Scotland was as foreign and new as it could get, but now, it was going to be my home for the next eight months. I switched the camera back to me.

“Have you met any of your coworkers?”

“Not yet, just one of Mira’s friends, Lainey. She picked me up at the airport and took me to my place. I have a roommate, but I haven’t met her yet. Some of the crew was out bonding last night. I missed it.”

“Oh, well. You’ll have time to get to know them. You’re lucky you got this gig at the last minute.”

“Yeah, I know.”

“Samhain, everything will be fine. You’re a talented makeup artist. You know you got this job because of your extensive resume and not just because of a phone call.”

If you say so, I wanted to tell her, but I just nodded. I hoped my mother couldn’t tell how scared I was. I knew I was overreacting—I was twenty-nine-years-old, for crying out loud. I was acting like a kid leaving for college, but this actually was my first time away from home, away from my family, my friends…my sister, my brother. I was going to miss them so much.

“Maybe I’ll come visit you,” my mother said. “I heard the male lead on this production is quite the hunk,” she joked. I saw her wink through the screen, and just like that, she brought the smile back to my face and washed away my fears. I laughed and rolled my eyes.

“Mom!”

“What? I might be old, but I’m not dead. I can appreciate a handsome man when I see one.” She shrugged. “Who knows, maybe you’ll meet someone cute.”

“I don’t think so. My goal is to lay low for a while. Love only leads to drama.” I knew that all too well.

“Oh, honey…I’m not talking about love—”

Oh, Jesus.

“Mom, come on.”

“No, Sam, let me say what I have to say. Sweetheart, you’re still young. Have your fun while you can. You know that’s why I never liked the fact that you and Eric got so hot and heavy when you were just twenty-two. You spent your best years with a man who didn’t deserve you.”

I nodded and pressed my lips into a tight smile. She was right, of course—as was everyone else with their I-told-you-so’s. I was the fool who had loved him blindly for too long, getting nothing in return. I had gotten my revenge on the cheating bastard, but it had kind of backfired in a way I hadn’t expected. Now, for the next eight months, I would have to call Scotland my home.

I heard footsteps coming from behind me, and I turned around.

The hill I had attempted to climb was deserted. I was alone. In that moment, it dawned on me that maybe this hadn’t been the smartest decision. I shouldn’t have ventured out by myself; I was in a foreign country, and I didn’t know anyone.

But the scenery had been so inviting.

I barely detected my mother saying, “What is it, honey?” I was too focused on the noise. A moment later, a tall guy in a baseball cap and athletic gear reached the small, flat spot where I had been chatting with my mom. He was wearing a windbreaker and shorts.

Shorts! I was huddled in a knee-length puffer jacket, and just the sight of him in shorts made me shiver. He lifted his head and the sight of his ice-blue eyes made me shiver again. He looked at me for just a second, nodding his head in my direction.

“Hello,” he said in a deep, uber-manly voice, one of those that could make you swoon even saying the most boring and generic stuff. He had me at hello.

“Hi,” I replied, frozen.

His eyes shifted to the phone in my hand. My mother kept calling my name from her office in Los Angeles. The stranger stared at me for another second, and then he gave an imperceptible shake of his head. The corner of his lips curled into a smile.

Ugh. Fucking embarrassing. I had been caught FaceTiming with my mom. This would be a really good time to lose reception, but noooo. My mother kept calling out to me, but I was sort of frozen on the spot, staring at the handsome stranger.

Yes, handsome. I stared at him all of five seconds, but that was enough to see his face—and what a face it was. He had the most perfect features: straight nose, strong jaw, high cheekbones. His eyes were sharp blue and gorgeous, and with just one look, they were melting my insides.

“Samhain! Are you okay, honey? What’s wrong?”

“Mom, hang on a sec,” I said, completely distracted by the vision in front of me.

He quickly walked past me and kept climbing up the steep slope, making it look so effortless.

“What is it, honey?” my mother asked again.

“Nothing, Mom. Just some mountain climber,” I said in a lower tone, raising my eyebrows, hoping the stranger wouldn’t hear me. He kept moving just as steadily as he had a moment before. He had to be a pro—he moved way too quickly to be a regular person. I was a fan of hikes, but my expertise was limited to canyons in the valley. This California girl was no match for real mountains like the peaks of Scotland. I had been out of breath in minutes. It must have been the altitude or perhaps the fact that my body was not made for strenuous exercise, no matter how hard I tried. I might not have had a lot of time to look at the stranger, but since I got to stare at his back for a little bit, I knew the rest of his body was as good-looking as his face. He had broad shoulders and muscular, lean legs—no wonder he made it look so damn easy, effortless even. His thin shorts revealed the curve of his ass and that alone was…spectacular.

I sighed. It had been too long, what felt like forever since I’d lusted after a guy. I guess I wasn’t broken after all. Good to know. If I had more stamina and no shame, I would have followed him up the mountain. I would have committed to following that ass anywhere.

“Mom, I have to go. I need to get back to the townhouses. Maybe I can catch my roommate before my orientation.”

“All right, honey. Text me, okay?”

BFF K’s Review of Chased by Love

rating_4.5

This book was such a wonderful surprise! I’ve read all of the books in the Ryder’s Series that have been released to date, so I was confident that I would read a good book. They have all been interesting and enjoyable reads, but Chased by Love is definitely my favorite so far! This book is a great combo of characters we know, and blended storylines from Foster’s other series’, combined with a really strong Rockstar/Hollywood Actress trope. The result is a thoroughly fulfilling page turner! (Though this is the 3rd in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone.)

Trish Ryder has the movie role of a lifetime and the chance to work with world famous, and super HOT, rockstar Boone Stryker. (Boone is absolutely swoon worthy! I picture him with the heart/mind of a poet and a body for built for wickedness.) Everything seems to be lining up perfectly to take Trish’s career to the next level, but something is off in Boone’s performance. Their sizzling chemistry seems to go MIA when the cameras roll. The stars are sentenced to 10-days sequestered together to figure it out.

Together Boone and Trish discover that there is so much more to both than just their public personas. The attraction sparked between them catches fire, and the reader gets singed by the flames. Trish and Boone are both great independent characters, but also a really exceptional couple as well. They navigate their feelings for each other, their personal dramas, the stress of the film and their burgeoning romance. The conclusion is an immensely satisfying, character-driven-story that delivers all the feelings and emotions you want in a great Romance. If you love the Rockstar/Hollywood Actor tropes, this one is sure to please!
