From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes the second installment in the Saints of Denver series featuring a bad girl and a by the book attorney who could be her salvation…or her ruin.

Avett Walker and Quaid Jackson’s worlds have no reason to collide. Ever. Quaid is a high powered criminal attorney as slick as he is handsome. Avett is a pink-haired troublemaker with a bad attitude and a history of picking the wrong men.

When Avett lands in a sea of hot water because of one terrible mistake, the only person who can get her out of it is the insanely sexy lawyer. The last thing on earth she wants to do is rely on the no-nonsense attorney who thinks of her as nothing more than a nuisance. He literally has her fate in his hands. Yet there is something about him that makes her want to convince him to loosen his tie and have a little fun…with her.

Quaid never takes on clients like the impulsive young woman with a Technicolor dye job. She could stand to learn a hard lesson or two, but something about her guileless hazel eyes intrigues him. Still, he’s determined to keep their relationship strictly business. But doing so is becoming more impossible with each day he spends with her.

As they work side-by-side, they’ll have to figure out a way to get along and keep their hands off each other—because the chemistry between them is beyond charged.

BFF K’s Review of Charged

rating_5_80
Avett was a bit much at the beginning of this book. I was struggling to find the redeeming qualities in her character, but at about 25-30%, Jay Crownover weaved her magical words and I fell head over heels in LOVE with both Avett and Quaid. I think it would be nearly impossible to find two characters that are more deserving of love and a loving relationship.

I had a hard time understanding what a slick, powerful, successful attorney would see in this hopelessly mixed up client. BUT wow, that’s when Crownover uncovers the most beautiful characters that you can’t help but cheer for! Page after page and hour after hour flew by while I was engrossed in their stories of forgiveness, hope and love.

The book is SO well written. Characters are redeemed, families are rebuilt and love conquers all! I thought I loved Built, but Charged is even better! This is going to be a MUST read series for me. I can’t wait for what’s in store in the next Saints of Denver novel!

Quaid

I tapped the edge of my thumb on the black-and-white mug shot photo and couldn’t stop the grin from tugging at my mouth.

                  She tried to fire me.

She was five-foot-nothing, a lifetime younger than me, had multicolored hair that had seen better days, wild eyes that couldn’t decide if they wanted to be green, gold, or brown, while dressed in convict orange and obviously scared out of her ever loving mind, yet she still tried to fire me. If it had been any of my other clients—the cop accused of sexual battery, the frat boy accused of manslaughter over a bet on a football game gone wrong, the middle school teacher accused of pedophilia and having an inappropriate relationship with several of her students, or the pro football player accused of domestic abuse—I would have tipped my proverbial hat, wished them luck while I cut my losses, and walked away without a backward glance. People always committed crimes. People always needed a good defense, so it wasn’t like I was hurting for clients, but there was something about the girl. Something about the defiant tilt of her chin and the raw desperation in her tone when she begged me not to call her father.

“I don’t want your help. I don’t want anything from you.” She sounded like she meant it when she said it, but I figured she was too young and too scared to know exactly what she wanted or needed. Regardless, it was still refreshing to hear.

Everyone always wanted something from me and my help was usually the least of it.

I tapped the picture again, wondering why I found it so easy to believe that she really hadn’t been a part of the boyfriend’s plan to rob the bar. She wasn’t anyone’s idea of a model citizen and she had the shady track record to prove it. She was too young, and frankly too adorable, to have a file this thick. From what I could see, she had a set of parents always willing to ride to the rescue when she got herself into trouble. She looked like some kind of colorful woodland fairy from a Disney movie with her odd hair and delicate features. None of it added up, but the sincerity in her tone when she said she would never have gone with the boyfriend if she knew his intent and the fear in her eyes when I mentioned her father seemed genuine.

I learned long ago to treat everyone like they were guilty of whatever it was I was paid to defend them against. I didn’t want to know the truth. I didn’t want to know the circumstances. I wanted my clients to listen to me and let me do my job as I tried to convince the rest of the world they were innocent, regardless if they were or not. But this girl with her faded, rose colored hair and turbulent eyes oozed innocence through the cracks of a very guilty façade.

Because I was intrigued and actually believed the girl might be innocent, I wasn’t going to let her fire me. I was going to call her father and hope that he would help me keep her out of the slammer while I figured out how to plea bargain her charges down or get them dismissed altogether. Again, because a cop was involved in the robbery and because the boyfriend, junkie or not, was offering up a pretty plausible explanation for Avett’s involvement in the crime, nothing was a slam dunk, yet. I was going to help her whether she wanted me to or not.

And don’t miss the first titles in The Saints of Denver Series!

Blog Tour – Cocky Bastard by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland

He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska. A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive. When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.

My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense. I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back. I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways. All good things must come to an end, right? Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

A knock at the door made me jump.

With a huff, I got out of bed and stood on my tiptoes to look out the peephole. Why were those things always so high on the door anyway? I was surprised to find no one standing on the other side. Maybe I’d imagined it.

Another knock.

I flicked on the lights. The sound wasn’t coming from the entrance door. It was coming from an interior door I hadn’t even noticed before.

Chance’s door.

I unfastened the top lock and cracked it open just enough so I could see what he wanted. And there he stood.

Shirtless.

Wearing only dark gray boxer briefs that hugged him like a second skin.

It took a minute to understand what he was doing there, even though he was holding up a toothbrush in question.

“I thought we had established I wasn’t a serial killer already.”

I opened the door wider.

He smiled.

Oh lord. Stop that. Right now.

“I must have left my toothpaste in my saddlebag in the car.”

I swallowed hard. “Uh huh.”

He cocked his head to the side, and his brows dipped in. “Can I borrow yours?”

“Oh. Yeah, sure.”

He walked past me and let himself into my bathroom. I waited at the door.

“You got an awful lot of girly crap in here for one night,” he said with a jumbled mouth full of toothpaste from the bathroom. “Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia.”

He was reading my Estee Lauder perfume bottle.

I heard him rinse and spit. Then there was a gargling sound. He used my mouthwash, too. Sure, help yourself.

He walked out and flicked off the bathroom light. “Is tuberose a rose?”

I shook my head, still confused by the whole situation going on.

“That’s why,” he murmured.

“Why what?”

“I couldn’t figure out what you smelled like all day. Not sure I ever smelled a Tuberose before.” He shrugged and walked back into his room but not before turning back. “Even those little black lacy underwear smell like tuberose.”

My eyes bulged. I’d taken off my bra and panties and left them on the bathroom counter.

“You…you—”

“Relax. I’m teasing. Do I look like an underwear sniffer to you?”

Yes.

No.

Maybe?

“Night, Aubrey.” He graced me with a dimple and disappeared.

AH-BREE. Damn him.

I locked the door and checked it twice, unclear if it was for my safety or his. His voice saying my name was on audio replay inside my head, getting softer and softer like a soothing lullaby with each breath as I drifted off to dreamland.

Until the knock came again.

It’s our 1st Blogiversary!

BFFBooks-1

One year! It’s been one whole year we’ve been doing this crazy blog thing. AND, it has been some of the most amazing fun we’ve ever had.

From BFF K

1-Year Blogiversary…..That’s CRAZY! One year ago today, the very first post was a review of the Matter of Fate series by Heather Lyons.

So, Ann and I really are BFF’s. We got this wild hair awhile back to start a book blog. We didn’t have any idea how or where or why or when we could/would/should make it work. We knew we loved books. We get a kick out of sharing good books with others. And, we’re always looking for more chances to spend time together. We did a little bit of dreaming and the BFF Book Blog was born.

When Ann and I started this little blog adventure, in a lot of ways we “shielded our true identities.” We had no idea what in the world to expect. We didn’t know if we would enjoy blogging. We weren’t sure if anyone would follow us or care about our recommendations. We didn’t know if we would be able to find or make the time for the care and feeding of our little project. As the year has gone on and we’ve gotten more comfortable, we’ve gradually shared a little more of ourselves.

For better or worse, over the next few weeks and into the future, you’ll be seeing more of us, literally and figuratively. We’ll be revealing more about ourselves in addition to the books and bits.

I want you to know that it is an absolute thrill to run the BFF Book Blog! I have fangirled and squeeled more times than you can imagine. I’ve gotten a chance to meet and interact with readers and authors from around the world. Every time someone likes a Facebook status, retweets, comments on the blog, sends a note about loving a book we’ve recommended or honestly, interacts in any way I get a jolt of excitement, surprise and elation.

One year later, here are some numbers that blow me away:

1 – Blog

2 – BFFs

17 – Pinterest Boards

81 – Instagram Followers

100’s – GREAT Books Read

158 – Blog Posts

271 – Twitter Followers

2775 – Facebook Likes

Countless – laughs, memories, new friends

I’m grateful to everyone who has made this year so much fun and really made the BFF Book Blog one of my most truly happy places! Tonight, I will track down Ann, we’ll open a bottle of bubbly and toast in your honor.

signoff_K_sm

From BFF A

Seriously, it’s already been one year? So. Much. Has. Happened this year, it’s hard for me to wrap my brain around the timeline. All I know is Kiersten and I (okay, really Kiersten) had this crazy idea to start a blog because we love, love, love talking about books, recommending great reads, and wanted to share the passion with others.  What we have found is a fabulous community of readers, authors, and bloggers.  Put all of us together and we’re like a gang that no one else really understands.  I have learned a lot this year, expanded my reading options, and can’t wait for more.  I’m hoping this coming year to do more…more reading, more blogging, more falling in love with the reading community, because it really is freaking awesome.

Today we’ll celebrate what a wild ride the past year has been and anticipate what’s coming next.  Thanks for helping us get started, thanks for following, for reading and for becoming our BFF’s through our joined love of books, authors, characters, and reading.

signoff_A_sm

AND – Keep your eye on our social media accounts. In addition to a FLASH Giveaway today on Facebook, we’re planning for some MAJOR giveaways the week of June 22-26. We’re talking, books, signed books, wine koozies AND a KINDLE Paperwhite!!!! Exciting stuff!
