THE COLLECTORS’ SOCIETY Synopsis:
From the author of the Fate series and The Deep End of the Sea comes a fantastical romantic adventure that has Alice tumbling down the strangest rabbit hole yet.
After years in Wonderland, Alice has returned to England as an adult, desperate to reclaim sanity and control over her life. An enigmatic gentleman with an intriguing job offer too tempting to resist changes her plans for a calm existence, though. Soon, she’s whisked to New York and initiated into the Collectors’ Society, a secret organization whose members confirm that famous stories are anything but straightforward and that what she knows about the world is only a fraction of the truth.
It’s there she discovers villains are afoot—ones who want to shelve the lives of countless beings. Assigned to work with the mysterious and alluring Finn, Alice and the rest of the Collectors’ Society race against a doomsday clock in order to prevent further destruction . . . but will they make it before all their endings are erased?
Heather Lyons has always had a thing for words—She’s been writing stories since she was a kid. In addition to writing, she’s also been an archaeologist and a teacher. Heather is a rabid music fan, as evidenced by her (mostly) music-centric blog, and she’s married to an even larger music snob. They’re happily raising three kids who are mini music fiends who love to read and be read to.
Selah Elmore is a confident, curvy woman who knows exactly who she is and what she wants. She loves her life being a professor and popular pirate erotica author. However, when she leaves the Pacific Northwest to spend six months studying sculpture in West Africa, she learns she doesn’t know a thing about love.
Cocky, suit-wearing Gerhard charms her during a stopover in Amsterdam, but dashing, adventurous Kai sweeps her off her feet in Ghana.
Sparks fly on three continents when perpetually single Selah discovers there’s more to love and life than she ever imagined.
Sex? Absolutely.
Love? Not my thing.
I didn’t do love or butterflies, but I loved him.
I was screwed, and not in a good way.
Wanderlust is the third novel in the Modern Love Stories series. It’s a spin-off/standalone from Geoducks Are for Lovers. It isn’t necessary to read that novel or Ready to Fall prior to reading this.

I have read all of the books in the Modern Love Stories series and I adore them all! This is a particularly good story. Selah is a strong, confident heroine who must determine if the love that has caught her by surprise, is worth changes to her life that she never imagined. One of the things that I LOVE about this series is the age and maturity of the characters. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good YA novel. But, it’s also nice to read about characters who are having thoughts and experiences that are more closely related to those that my BFF’s and I might encounter in our real lives!
Kai is a terrific character! He’s charming, smart, successful, kind and caring. His sweetness and outlook on life is a balance to Selah and will have you rooting for what might seem at first to be an unlikely couple. Selah is independent, smart and sassy. I loved getting a glimpse inside her thoughts. And, if you’ve read the other books in this series, you’ll enjoy a couple of cameos from your favorite characters!
I recommend this book, the whole series really, to anyone looking for a genuinely good love story! The book has an adventurous spirit, a good sense of humor, a case of mistaken identity, a little steam and characters you will route for!

This post is very exciting for several reasons! We’re thrilled to be among the first to review The Collectors’ Society by Heather Lyons. She’s one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to recommend this book to you.
This review also debuts a new rating for the BFF Book Blog. We’re introducing the 6 Rating (our previous high was a 5) and we’re thrilled to give our first 6 Rating to The Collectors’ Society by Heather Lyons!
This book cannot be missed. I am seriously at a loss for the right words to describe just how much I absolutely adore every bit of this story. Here are just a few of the reasons:
1. Alice is a seriously kick-ass character! I think that she might be the best written female character that I can remember reading. She’s strong, smart, brave, independent and witty. She can role with the punches (literally) and adapt to whatever comes her way. She has an internal moral compass and remarkable loyalty. Alice is the new standard that I set for all heroines.
2. This is a story that you’ve never read before. It is fresh, unique, inventive and absolutely captivating.
3. I’ve never highlighted as many sentences, paragraphs and sections as I did in this book! It is so lovely and bright and artfully written that I want to remember the words, phrases and emotions of so many passages. The writing is incredible and I am again so amazed by how artfully Heather Lyons weaves words together that make me want to savor so many of the passages!
4. This book has something for everyone. It’s got romance, action, a little heartache, intrigue, and nostalgia.
5. This is a love story. At the core of all of Heather’s books are really fantastic love stories, and The Collectors’ Society is no exception. I can’t count the number of times that butterflies tried to burst out of my stomach and my heart threatened to race from my chest. Seriously….SWOON! Finn now holds a permanent place in the top of my book boyfriend list.
6. Did I mention that Alice kicks ass? The cast of supporting characters is also really fantastic!
I’ll admit, I was a little worried at the beginning of the book. I’m no expert on Alice in Wonderland. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to understand the story. BUT, that didn’t hamper my enjoyment of the book one bit! I even uncovered a few of the easter eggs that Heather has included for fans of Alice in Wonderland.
I could go on and on and on and on and on. But, I still won’t be able to do the book justice. Just buy it. Right now. And, then come back and tell me when you’re finished so that we can dish about how wonderful it is!

The Collectors’ Society is book one in a two book series. Today I will be starting a countdown to book two!

“Do you find my ability to converse lacking, Doctor?”
He chuckles softly, no doubt remembering how I wasn’t chatty with anyone, himself included, for the first month of my stay. To be fair, it is difficult to carry on an invigorating discussion when one is shaking so hard from withdrawals they fear they might shatter into thousands of painful pieces before a single word can be uttered. Plus, there was the whole bit of how once I did open up, I raved liked a lunatic about things no normal person could imagine being true.
“Certainly not,” he says to me. “But as I must stay at the Pleasance and you must go forth into the world, it will do you good to practice on somebody new.”
“Then send in one of the orderlies. Or one of the nurses. I’ll happily chat with a staff member.”
One of his bushy, out-of-control eyebrows lifts high into his forehead.
“There are people out there who are quite content being solitary,” I point out. “Who do not need to converse with anybody but themselves and their dogs.”
He sets his pen down. “What about cats?”
Rigor mortis sets in ever so briefly at this question.
“You father said you were quite fond of cats growing up. There was one in particular that you favored. Dinah, was it not?”
“I’m—” I have to clear my throat. “Lately, I wonder if perhaps I’m more of a dog person after all.”

Genre: New Adult Romance
My name is Mariah Huxley, and I’m a reformed slut.
The only year I attended college, I spent on my back, living on a constant high from sex and booze. That was, until my wayward ways left me with the greatest responsibility one could have.
Fast forward seven years, and I am Mariah Huxley, a twenty-six-year-old, single mother, living in the unforgiving world as an adult. I work hard to take care of us, and I am happy. I’m happy until I close my eyes at night and realize that’s not the case at all. Something is missing. My soul, my body, and my heart—they’ve all been drained of anything exciting. That’s until the night I finally allow myself to live, and I meet him.
When he touches me, I awaken and slowly become resurrected. However, will the relationship we’ve started be one I’m prepared to handle? I am strong enough to endure many things, but am I strong enough to sustain this connection with him.
My name is Jason Cain, and I am who I am.
Some may call me determined, but the majority of society views me as a prick. To them, I’m an arrogant jerk who defies the standard rules of life to get what I want. I couldn’t agree more.
I was born on the streets, loved by no one. The only person I had was me. Once adopted by the state, I vowed to myself to become a man of means. I vowed to become a man who would be respected from the moment I walked in a room.
Fast forward several years, and I am Jason Cain, a thirty-two-year-old, successful entrepreneur, and self-made millionaire. My life is all about time, which includes making gut reaction business deals, growing my empire, and being in the company of beautiful women. I have time for only one thing, my satisfaction. That’s until the night she strolls into my nightclub.
When she touches me, I feel every wall I’ve built up slowly crumble around me. I disintegrate. However, will the relationship we’ve started be one I can leave behind? Or will I lose the part of me that’s kept me going my entire life? Am I strong enough to survive her?
Or will this be our last call?

I really enjoyed reading this book. Mariah is a single mom working hard and doing her best to raise her son and keep her sanity. She has a very colorful cast of characters that surround her. She meets Jason Cain, Miami’s most eligible bachelor, and their instant connection is remarkable. They’re drawn toward one another, but both have pasts and secrets that threaten their relationship. I was quickly turning the pages waiting to see how they would learn about and deal with those discoveries.
The writing is a little “rough”, i.e. some of the language or phrases just weren’t phrases I would ever use. I found it a little distracting. BUT, not enough that it detracted from my overall desire to see how the story ended. It’s a really interesting plot and laugh out loud funny at times!

I’m thrilled to have received an ARC and bring you a peak into this fun little romance!

I grasp his hands and look directly into his face. I’m going to tell him. The sex talk. We’re having it. Yep, we’re going to have it and it’s going to be now.
“Boning is another word for… p-p-p-poking someone with a chicken bone.” Bold face lie. Damn, I suck as a mother.
“Like when you get done eating a chicken leg, you just poke someone with the bone? Who’d you eat chicken with last night?” Royce is smiling with delight and so happy with the answer I’ve provided.
“Yep, just like that. I was with Aunt Shelby and Aunt Giselle,” I say, trying to get the disappointment out of my voice.
“Sweet, boning! I can’t wait until we have chicken again. I’m gonna bone everyone!” Royce hops off his lap and runs to his room.
I LOVE book playlists! This one is really, really good!

A sexy and swoony new adult romance…
Celebrity photographer and college senior Jess Leighton desperately needs to crash the wedding of the year. Snapping just one pic of the A-list Hollywood couple tying the knot will pay her way through grad school. But with security tighter than the bride-to-be’s corset, she’ll need more than her camera and smarts, she’ll need help from her biggest rival–hot, British, motorcycle-riding William Harrigan, whose sexy accent can melt the panties off any woman. He’s the last person Jess should trust, but he’s her only ticket in.
William Harrigan wants one thing – to stay in L.A. past college graduation. With a student visa set to expire, the clock is ticking. When he lands a gig that pairs him with the beautiful blond spitfire Jess, he’s scored his best shot at living out the American dream. Winning her trust would be a whole lot easier, however, if he didn’t have ulterior motives…
But there’s no faking the intense attraction between them. Try as they might to resist each other, soon sparks are flying, as they devise a plan to sneak into the ceremony. But when Jess’ new celebrity client raises the stakes, she starts to smell blackmail, and soon she and Will are chasing down cheating directors, staking out clandestine trysts, and making fake IDs, all while sneaking scene-stealing kisses and hot nights together.
The audience loves a happy ending, but in a town where everyone’s acting and no one’s playing by the rules, can Jess and William find their own ever after in time?
**Stars in Their Eyes is the start of the sexy, swoony and scandalous new adult series Wrapped Up in Love, which is a spin-off of the NYT and USA Today Bestselling Caught Up in Love series. You don’t need to have read Caught Up in Love to follow this new series, but you’ll likely enjoy those books!**

So, here’s a little secret about BFF K., I LOVE celebrity gossip! I get text alerts about certain celebrities, plan dream cocktail party invite lists in my spare time and adore the Star Tracks section of people magazine. So, a chance to read a new series and the first is about a paparazzo, sign me up! Literally, I loved signing up and reading the ARC to be a part of the blog tour for Lauren Blakely’s new book!
YEP, that’s the perfect description of William. This book is alternate POV (which I also love) so it was wonderful to spend a little time in both William and Jess’ heads. Jess is smart and sassy and doesn’t need a man, for anything. But, William presents her with an opportunity too good to pass up. As they’re scheming together to access the Hollywood wedding of the year, their attraction and genuine affection grows in a sweet and wonderful way that’s delightful to read! And the ending, while overall predictable, had a couple of fun twists I wasn’t expecting.
I’m really anxious for more books in this series! This book is great Hollywood brain candy in the same vein as celebrity magazines and paparazzo eye candy photos! Yum!

“You played me,” he said, but he didn’t sound mad. He sounded impressed.
“It worked,” I said, pride suffusing my tone. “But the scrapes are real.”
“Yeah, I feel terrible. Shall I go hunt down a Band-Aid for you now? Oh wait. You carry them with you. You’re always prepared.”
“You never know when you might have to take a fall to be first,” I said, and rooted around in the front pocket of my backpack for a Band-Aid. I found one, peeled off the wrapping and started to press it onto my palm.
“Let me help,” he said in a soft voice, laying the ends of the Band-Aid onto my skin. He stepped closer, his body now officially in the zone of supreme nearness–the zone that would allow for hands to explore chests, and arms to be wrapped around necks, and lips to lock again. I held my breath. My hands tingled under his touch. “This is the part in the script where the reformed bad boy touches the heroine for the second time,” he whispered.
I wanted to close my eyes and linger in the moment. But I had to be stoic. I couldn’t say what I wanted to say. That this was the moment when the heroine’s skin raced from the barest touch. So I lied. “This is the part where the heroine doesn’t even notice.”
He raised an eyebrow. He held my gaze. I didn’t look away in enough time. My breath caught, and my lips were parted. “Hi,” he whispered in a voice that was getting under my skin.
“Hi,” I said against my better judgment, against my brain.
“Are we still on for the movie tomorrow?”
“You’re just asking me out because I’m the competition, right? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?”
“I’m asking because I want to go out with you. Not because you’re the enemy.”
I scoffed. “At least you admitted I’m the enemy. That’s why you’re asking me.”
He raised his hand, reaching gently for a strand of my hair. My feet felt wobbly with him so near to me. The earth was suddenly operating at a bizarre angle. I pressed my palm against the brick wall behind me to steady myself as he ran a finger along my hair. So softly. “I swear,” he whispered, pinning me with his gaze. “I truly want to see the movie with you. Say you’re still going with me.”

At 21, Calla hasn’t done a lot of things. She’s never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.
But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought shed left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.
Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla’s business from they moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn’t give them her mom.

Oh Jax! He’s an absolutely incredible, swoon worthy, alpha male! Calla is a really fantastic female character, she’s been dealt a pretty crumby hand in life. But, I particularly appreciated the way that Calla recognized she could not fix all of the problems in her life alone. Like most novels in this genre there are a couple of misunderstandings that leave you shaking your head. But, it was remarkably free of too many of those moments.
I loved getting to know Jax and Calla and their cast of friends. (Katie the future-seeing-stripper completely cracked me up!) If you’ve read the other Wait for You novels, you’ll be thrilled to see a few key visits from Cam and Avery and Jase and Tess. And, the new characters introduced in this book make me anxious for the next in the series (Fall With Me, March 2015)
Like all of the Wait for You series, there is a little bit of mystery and suspense in this book that will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can as late as you can! You will not regret picking up this book and letting Jax have a spot on your Book Boyfriend List!

AS LONG AS YOU LOVE ME Synopsis:
Most people dream about getting out of Sharon, Nebraska, but after three years away, Lauren Barrett is coming home. There are the justifications she gives to everyone else—missing her family, losing her college scholarship. And then there’s the reason Lauren can’t admit to anyone: Rob Conrad, her best friend’s older brother.
Football prowess and jaw-dropping good looks made Rob a star in high school. Out in the real world, his job and his relationships are going nowhere. He can’t pinpoint exactly what’s missing until Lauren comes back to town, bringing old feelings and new dreams with her. But he’s the guy that women love and leave—not the one who makes them think of forever.
Though she’s terrified of opening up, Lauren’s ready to take that chance. Because the only thing more important than figuring out where you truly belong is finding the person you were meant to be with.
I’ll be honest…..I asked to be a part of this blog tour because the heroine in this book is from Nebraska. NEBRASKA! I’m a Nebraska-Girl and I could NOT pass up the chance to read a book that is set in our state. BONUS: the series is fun, sweet and a delight to read!
Lauren and Rob have a charming story with some unexpected twists and turns. Both Rob and Lauren are flawed, but their flaws are much more vivid internally than externally. Their relationship allows both of them grow and mature into better versions of themselves. I really liked that the relationship was equal, built on shared history and seemed really healthy for both of them.
There were some very sweet, semi-steamy scenes that seemed perfect for the story. I even liked the peripheral stories about Lauren’s friends and family. This is a GREAT read and I can’t wait until the next book in the series!
