Emeralds is an intriguing story with a gut-wrenching twist! Though it is a part of the All That Glitters Series, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. I have not read any of the other books in this series, but I’m curious now about how things will turn out for Trihn. If you have read this book/series, send me a message here or on Facebook – I’m anxious to talk with someone about a couple of these characters!

Trihn is an interesting character. She has had a wide variety of experiences and keeps the different sides of her life and her personality very separate. One afternoon she literally runs into the handsome and charismatic Preston. He tracks her down (borderline stalkerish) and the two begin a whirlwind affair. Trihn has some interesting and complicated relationships with the main people in her life, particularly her parents and sister.

I want to give a warning – there is cheating in this story. I was NOT prepared for this or the big mind-twist that threw things off-course in several ways. I’m not a fan of stories with cheating in the plot-line and I think that likely hampered my overall enjoyment of the story. If a cheating plotline isn’t something that bothers you and you like a story with some serious angst and unexpected twists, you should definitely check out Emeralds!

FIVE FUN FACTS ABOUT EMERALDS

Emeralds is primarily set in New York City. I went there for a weekend to do research for this book, and all of the places they go to (even if not specifically named) are real!
Trihn is a ballerina at a dance studio in the city. Name changed from what it is in real life, but based off of the New York City ballet.
I danced all forms of dance growing up and recently took up pole dancing. These are all centered around Trihn as she is a very accomplished dancer. All the moves she does in ballet or otherwise are real choreographed steps!
This is the first book I’ve ever written in romance where the main character has an older sister.
Trihn is basically the polar opposite of Bryna, the main character from Diamonds and Gold. She was really fun and difficult to write, because she is incredibly nuanced and has a personality that compartmentalizes her feelings and relationships depending on who she is with. I think that’s why Bryna and Trihn work as friends. Bryna holds Trihn up, and Trihn holds Bryna back. You’ll get to know Trihn so much more in this book and come to love her!

Frickin’ Hot Guy and his stupid hike. He thought his limp would slow us down, but I’m the one huffing and puffing, trying to figure out how I ended up on Mount Everest while in New Zealand. I chance a glance up, using the moment to inhale a mouthful of air. Sam leans over the edge, hands on his knees, grinning down at me. If there was ever a reason to summit a mountain, that face is it.

Sam, who I’m falling for. Sam, with that jaw.

Sam, who I’ll be sleeping with. In a tent. Alone.

Another five agonizing steps later, he’s got me by the shoulders, helping me up. In the blink of an eye, he has my straps undone and is easing the bazillion-pound weight from my back. The air still feels sharp in my lungs, like it could slice through me.

“Keep moving around,” he says. “Come on, let’s walk it off.” He grabs my hand and leads me over the rocky ground, the two of us walking in wide circles.

After a few laps, the air is less daggerlike and my breathing slows. I blink at my surroundings. So focused on my aches and pains, I didn’t stop to soak in the landscape, if that’s what you’d call it. This is probably what the moon looks like. The air is cold and damp. It alleviates the heat from that insane climb but doesn’t do much to quell the warmth between Sam’s hand and mine. Still, I don’t let go. And he doesn’t let go. I could stand here forever.

“Yeah, beautiful,” I finally say, no longer referring to the scenery.

Duo Review – Inescapable by Amy A. Bartol

Over the years there is NO other series that has generated as much discussion between Missy and Kiersten as the Premonition Series by Amy Bartol. It is one of our most favorites and we love it more than is really healthy.

The 5th and FINAL book in the Premonition Series, Iniquity, will be released on December 8. In advance of this exciting event, I asked Missy to join me for a guest edition of the Duo Review to share our thoughts on this incredible series! The Premonition Series is a series that we have spent way too many HOURS (I’m not kidding, HOURS) discussing. We talk about these characters like they’re friends, neighbors and loved ones. It is one of my (BFF K) most recommended series!

Evie Claremont starts the book as an excited college Freshman with a whole new world opening up at Crestwood College. There she meets and befriends Freddie, a geeky, socially awkward young man. She also meets Russell, the quarterback of the football team and a boy whom it feels like she’s known forever. Then, Evie meets Reed. Every time they are near to one another they both have an uncontrollable case of butterflies and a pull to one another that is unexplainable.

Evie has a recurring nightmare that grows increasingly more vivid and soon strange things are happening to her! She draws the group of friends close together. Soon Zephyr, Buns and Brownie join the crew to help Evie discover who and what she is.

Evie has a way of surviving when she really shouldn’t. There is something about her that draws others to her and her presence causes them pause. We can’t really say more without giving away major plot points and believe us, you want to read/reveal these for yourself!

This book sets the stage for Evie in the entire series! There is angst, romance, action and suspense; moments that will get your heart beating for so many reasons. This is one of our most favorite series ever and book #1 is our favorite book! There is not really much else to say other than you MUST read this book!

Miles and Natalie were childhood friends. They share countless memories including one “almost” night. They’ve remained friends, but never explored any other possibilities for their relationship. Natalie is hard-working, committed and incredibly stubborn. She’s focused on her business, her home and her life plan. When her long-term relationship hits a wall, she’s too focused on the expected outcome to consider other options. When it all falls apart, Miles happens to be in town to shine some light on her other possibilities.

Miles has the world by the tail. He’s independent, self-assured and maybe a little self-centered. But, at his core is a really wonderful man. He is scared of commitment and fears letting someone in when he might let them down. But, Natalie is his one consistent force; theirs is the most important relationship in his life. And at the foundation of it all is genuine affection, mutual respect, intense attraction and sweet devotion.

The two embark on a whirlwind affair that contains some unexpected revelations and more emotions than either were anticipating. Miles has some strong alpha tendencies that play out in some super steamy scenes!

There are cameo appearances from several of Melanie Harlow’s other stories and it is fun to see multiple series intertwine even a little bit. But, this is definitely a stand-alone. You don’t have to read any of the others to really enjoy this book. All in all, Some Sort of Crazy is a great contemporary romance that contains all of the right ingredients and finishes with a delightful happily ever after!

Monster Prick, that’s exactly what Gracie thinks Hudson is! Gone is the sweet boy who used to leave her little surprises when he would visit her brother. Gone is the boy who used to ask how she was. He’s turned into a jerk and the last thing Gracie wants is to be stuck in his orbit.

But, one little mention of online dating to loose her V-Card and Hudson suddenly goes all caveman, insisting on teaching Gracie the finer points between the sheets. Their lessons end up being as much about love as lust and they soon realize that there’s more to the chemistry than just this starter course.

Gracie is sweet and innocent, but she’s not a doormat. Hudson is all alpha male, but has a gentleness that is mostly reserved for her. This is a super-fun, romance-filled, sweet, short story with a fulfilling happily ever after that you won’t want to miss! This was my first read from this author, but I’m already looking forward to more!

“What if I could help you?”

I have no idea what the hell I was thinking. The words just leaped out of my mouth. Listening to Gracie talk about kicking off her granny panties and popping her cherry with some random Internet dick…I guess it drove me temporarily insane.

But there’s no taking back the idea now. Gracie sucks in her breath, blinking wide-eyed. “What do you mean?” she asks.

What do I mean? Here I am, sitting next to the world’s most beautiful girl—drowning in her eyes, her scent, the gentle puff of her breath on my mouth that begs me to close the distance. The last time I stood in victory circle, Emmit had won his first NASCAR race and he had searched the crowd for me. This time, he went straight to the camera and began talking as he took small sips of something someone put in his hand. My lower stomach tightened as I watched Emmit’s every move. His sweat-soaked hair peeking out from under the baseball cap lit a fire in my body that I tried desperately to ignore. Bastard.

I wanted to be angry with him, but I couldn’t. “He’s so damn good looking. What I wouldn’t do to spend just one hour in his bed,” some girl behind me said. With a smirk, I said, “I’ve graced his bed plenty of times.” With a huge smile, she said, “Lucky bitch.” I rolled my eyes as I pushed all thoughts of Emmit and my horny body away.

The freedom of not feeling the need to have Emmit’s hands all over my body lasted for a whole minute. Once his gray eyes found mind, I held onto my breath.

There was so much more to Emmit than how he made my body feel during sex. One of my favorite things he ever did was place his hand on my lower back as he guided me through a room. Or, to a table for two in the corner of a romantic restaurant. Oh, yes … there was so much more to him.

Giving me a smile, Emmit said something else to the reporter and then nodded his head and turned to his team as they continued to celebrate. Daddy had gone up and given Emmit a quick hug and said something to him that caused Emmit to let out a laugh and agree with whatever Daddy said.

My heart dropped as I thought about how much I wished that had been me. I started making my way through the crowd. Glancing back over my shoulder, I watched as Emmit posed for pictures and continued to celebrate his win. Turning back to the front, I wondered if he would even notice I had left.

I love the start of this book! You understand from the very beginning the intense desire that Jace has to protect Tessa. Over the years, you see that protection morph from the instinct of a friend/brother to to the instinct of a friend/lover.

I love the middle of this book. The life of a jockey is hard, there is emotion and tension watching Tessa and Jace navigate the lifestyle and a relationship. Tessa is coming into her own, discovering her passion for racing and learning how to balance the demands of this daunting profession. Jace is learning how to balance being Tessa’s protector and being her partner.

I love the end of this book. There is a fulfilling happily ever after for Jace and Tessa that demonstrates how far they have come, but also their commitment to one another. Jock was a heartwarming, fast-paced, satisfying read. It was also my first book by CM Foss, but I know it won’t be my last!

Sam, who I’m falling for. Sam, with that jaw.

Sam, who I’ll be sleeping with. In a tent. Alone.

Another five agonizing steps later, he’s got me by the shoulders, helping me up. In the blink of an eye, he has my straps undone and is easing the bazillion-pound weight from my back. The air still feels sharp in my lungs, like it could slice through me.

“Keep moving around,” he says. “Come on, let’s walk it off.” He grabs my hand and leads me over the rocky ground, the two of us walking in wide circles.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” he asks. He’s still holding my hand as the silence engulfs us, my heart pounding in my ears.

The air is cold and damp. It alleviates the heat from that insane climb but doesn’t do much to quell the warmth between Sam’s hand and mine. Still, I don’t let go. And he doesn’t let go. I could stand here forever.

“Yeah, beautiful,” I finally say, no longer referring to the scenery.

I have no idea what the hell I was thinking. The words just leaped out of my mouth. Listening to Gracie talk about kicking off her granny panties and popping her cherry with some random Internet dick…I guess it drove me temporarily insane.

But there’s no taking back the idea now. Gracie sucks in her breath, blinking wide-eyed. “What do you mean?” she asks.

But sweet Jesus, I’m pretty sure Gracie wants this, too, and that’s enough to blow my better judgment to pieces. All I care about right now is making her feel better. In as many ways as possible. And if her slightly quickened breathing, blown pupils, and flushed cheeks are anything to go by…

As an experiment, I dart out the tip of my tongue to wet my lips. Her darkened eyes drop like a magnet yanked them. Yeah, bingo. Having a little black book as thick as the dictionary has its advantages. I know damn well how to tell when a woman wants me.

My lower stomach tightened as I watched Emmit’s every move. His sweat-soaked hair peeking out from under the baseball cap lit a fire in my body that I tried desperately to ignore. Bastard.

The freedom of not feeling the need to have Emmit’s hands all over my body lasted for a whole minute. Once his gray eyes found mind, I held onto my breath.

There was so much more to Emmit than how he made my body feel during sex. One of my favorite things he ever did was place his hand on my lower back as he guided me through a room. Or, to a table for two in the corner of a romantic restaurant. Oh, yes … there was so much more to him.

Giving me a smile, Emmit said something else to the reporter and then nodded his head and turned to his team as they continued to celebrate. Daddy had gone up and given Emmit a quick hug and said something to him that caused Emmit to let out a laugh and agree with whatever Daddy said.

Emmit took the champagne and shook it up as he sprayed everyone. Security had allowed Ashley to go up to Emmit. He pulled her into his arms and hugged her for a good thirty seconds before pulling back and kissing the tip of her nose.

My heart dropped as I thought about how much I wished that had been me. I started making my way through the crowd. Glancing back over my shoulder, I watched as Emmit posed for pictures and continued to celebrate his win. Turning back to the front, I wondered if he would even notice I had left.
