Review & Release Day Blitz – Tonic by Staci Hart

Title: Tonic
Author: Staci Hart
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: October 13, 2016

Joel Anderson doesn’t take anything seriously. Not his relationships, which have been few and far between since his brutal divorce. Not the drama of working in a tattoo parlor, which seems to be around every corner. When things get him down, he smiles and cracks a joke. But he’s not the kind of man you cross, or you’ll find yourself at the wrong end of his fists.

Annika Belousov takes everything seriously.

Like her job as a reality television producer, given that she typically has something to prove. Or her love life, which is defined by a series of requirements — affluent, ambitious, accomplished, to name a few. Definitely her family, who worked their whole lives to afford her every opportunity, a sacrifice she doesn’t take lightly. When she’s tapped to produce a reality show at Joel’s shop, she doesn’t think twice, just goes in for the kill, as if there were any other way.

The second Annika walks into Joel’s shop, he makes it his mission to crack her open, but she’s not having it. He’s all wrong — too crass, too hairy, too un-serious. But it doesn’t take her long to find out there’s more to him than smirks and tattoos. And what she finds could put her career and his heart on the line.

Not that Joel cares. Because for the first time in a long time, he’s found his tonic.

A teaser from one of my most FAVORITE parts of the book! <<Swoon>>

BFF K’s Review of Tonic by Staci Hart

rating_5_80

Tonic is…..word stealing! I love this book so much that it takes my words away. My words have mostly escaped me because I know that there’s NO WAY I can put words together well enough to describe how beautifully written this book is! But, I have to try.

Tonic is lovely, heart-wrenching, butterfly-inducing, laugh out loud, tear-jerking, amazingly wonderful! I LOVE these characters. (Let’s be honest, you had me at the cover! I love this cover so much!) Annika and Joel are as different as their names. They are light contrast with dark and clean skin contrasted with ink. They’re cool facade versus wild emotion. And the coming together of all these things creates a beautiful kaleidoscope of color and emotion that will take you to the highest-highs and the lowest-lows.

Annika is a complex heroine. She’s harsh and demanding professionally, but personally, there’s a softness and a caring that she doesn’t let the rest of the world see. She is a strong character on her own, but even better when combined with our hero. Joel is life out loud. He’s every emotion shared freely and without reservation. He’s kind, caring, funny, smart and loyal. He’s everything you would want in a friend, a boss, a partner. (And he’s inked head to toe with a beautiful beard.)

The storyline is unique, the intimate scenes are full of steam, the characters are well developed, the supporting cast is colorful and clever. Tonic is a really wonderful book and one that I absolutely recommend you add to your TBR. Right now, do it RIGHT NOW! Cheers to Staci Hart on a book I’m going to love to recommend for a really long time!

About the Author

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life: a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.
From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, cleaning, or designing graphics.

Everywhere I look, my friends are settling down – marriage, children, white picket fences; but not me. Marriage isn’t in the cards for me. I’m a ladies man.

A rock star.

I was born and raised in the industry.

I love everything about my life, especially the attention from the women that my status brings me.

Women find me. I don’t chase. I know what they want and they know I’ll deliver.

But after one look, one touch, one night…

Now I’m the one doing the chasing.

I need to find a way to show her that I’m serious, that I can change.

I need to find a way to show her that I can love her fully, and only her.

I need to find a way to show her that she’s my forever.

BFF K’s Review of Finding My Forever

rating_4_80

Jimmy is a rockstar playboy. He’s practically rockstar royalty and has the issues you would expect to go along with that. But, as Jimmy starts to unpack his baggage and bear his soul, you realize that he is so much more than the labels that everyone (including himself) has placed on him.

Then Jimmy meets Jenna and she’s everything he wants but doesn’t think he deserves to have; until a few unexpected circumstances bring them together. But, once they’re together, what will it take for them to stay together?

Finding My Forever is a terrific Rockstar Romance. It’s full of great characters, touching stories, a little bit of steam, witty dialogue and lots and lots of romance! This is a great continuation of the Beaumont Series!

BFF K’s Review of My Unexpected Forever

rating_4.5

My Unexpected Forever is a rare case where I like the 2nd book in a series even better than the first! Katelyn and Harrison are just…..so wonderful.

These are two fantastic independent characters that are each fully developed on their own even as they are brought together. Katelyn’s grief and loss is heartbreaking. It’s impossible not to put yourself in her position and think about her loss and struggles in a very personal way. She is attracted to Harrison, though she struggles with her loyalty to her late husband. And Harrison. Harrison is about as close to perfect as a hero can get. He’s patient, kind, sweet, caring, and without a doubt one of the the most understanding and accepting heroes I’ve had the pleasure of reading. You should read this book for Harrison alone!

My Unexpected Forever is the fantastic continuation of the Beaumont Series and a terrific story in its own right!

Review

rating_4_80

The Trouble with Mistletoe is a Hallmark Christmas movie in book form and it’s every bit as wonderful as you would imagine! There are quirky characters, an abundance of decorations, and enough holiday cheer to fly Santa’s sleigh. But, there are also some really strong characters, clever dialogue, and more than a couple steamy scenes.

Willa is sweet, caring, compassionate, quirky and full of love for people and animals alike. And while it seems like she loves whole-heartedly, there are limits she places on any romantic love. On the surface, Keane seems to struggle with giving his love as freely as Willa. Through the story, they find they are much more alike than different. And maybe, just maybe, they’re perfect for each other.

The cast of supporting characters is strong. While The Trouble with Mistletoe can be read as a stand-alone; I have not read the other books in this series. Now, I want to read the rest of the series. There is a cast of intriguing characters with their own stories to tell and I want to discover them all.

The Trouble with Mistletoe is a must read for the Holidays, or anytime!

Excerpt

Willa had no idea what the hell she thought she was doing agreeing to go out with Keane for dinner, but apparently her feet knew because they took her back into the grooming room to tell Rory.

The girl was cross-legged on the floor in front of Carl, brushing him. Sitting facing her, Carl’s head was higher than Rory’s but he sat still happily, smiling.

Carl loved the attention, all of it.

                  “I’m heading out,” Willa said.

                  “Thanks for the newsflash.”

                  “I’m going with Keane.”

Rory froze. Only her eyes swiveled to Willa. “Has hell frozen over?”

Willa sighed. Given that all her current feelings for Keane were mixed up with her past feelings for him, she could hardly explain it to someone else much less herself. “It’s just dinner.”

“Uh-huh,” Rory murmured, stroking an ecstatic Carl. “Remember you’re the one who said the devil himself couldn’t drag you cold, dead corpse out on a date with Keane even if he was hot as balls.”

“Shh!” Willa took a quick look behind her but thankfully Keane hadn’t followed. “It’s all very…complicated.”

“Complicated,” Rory repeated, amused. “Maybe we should have the birds-and-bees talk, like you always try to have with me when I’m attracted to the wrong-for-me guys.”

“Funny,” Willa said. The fact was, both of them were attracted to the wrong men, still.

But Rory was on a roll, ticking off points on her fingers. “No sleeping with him on the first date, no matter how amazing he kisses—“

“Oh my God, keep your voice down!” Willa looked behind her again. “I’m not going to sleep with him on the first date.” Even if the low, sexy tone of his voice did very interesting, very distracting things to her body. Nope, she wasn’t going down that road because that road led to her downfall every time. This was just dinner, that was it. It was the only way she could ensure her emotional security. No more falling for a guy too quickly. Nope. Not gonna happen.

BFF K’s Review of Bedmates

rating_5_80

Ahhh! This book is all of the things I love: strong characters, unique storylines, politics, romance and an unexpected, tear-jerking, angst that moved me as a reader!

Maddie is the best kind of charmer. She lights up a room without ever working an angle. She’s strong, smart, compassionate, principled and hard-working. She also happens to be the President’s Daughter. Jake is a charmer in different ways. He’s handsome, confident, loyal, well-spoken, passionate and a war veteran. Oh yeah and he’s the Vice President’s Son. They’re so different from one another, but so similar at the same time. And they will both need all of their best qualities create a relationship that lasts past this election cycle.

I’m a HUGE fan of Nichole Chase’s Royals Series, starting with Suddenly Royal. I’ve been anxiously awaiting Bedmates, and this first book of the American Royalty series did NOT disappoint! For fans of the Suddenly Royal series, Alex and Samantha not only make an appearance in this story, but play a critical role. This is more than a cameo appearance and their scenes move the storyline forward in a way that feels so familiar and wonderful to fans of that series.

This is a MUST READ new series that I will be recommending over and over in the coming weeks/months. Add it to your TBR today! And, join me in anxiously awaiting the next book in this great new series.

“Let me clean up my stuff. We can take my truck.” He stood up with a grimace.

“What?” I looked at him as if he was crazy.

“You need help.” He shrugged. “I’ll help.”

“No, it’s okay. I’ll be fine.” I shook my head a little too hard and my pony tail whipped me in the eye. I grimaced and blinked back tears. “Ow!”

“Here—“ Jake pressed something to my eye. “It’s no big deal. This is what friends do, right?”

“You’re still on probation—“ I snapped and batted away his hand. That’s when I realized he had lifted his shirt to wipe away my tears, exposing a wide expanse of well-muscled abdomen.

“Then I still need to work it off.” He smiled at me and my frown deepened.

I had to stop doing stupid things around Jake Simmon. In fact I just needed to not be around Jake Simmon. Looking at him made my brain leak out my ears. Talking to him left me equally amused and tongue-tied. I couldn’t think straight around the man and he was busy chasing tail all over D.C. Yes, the last thing I needed was to spend more time with Jake while he tried to be my friend. It just muddied the waters.

“No, no, no. I’m fine.” I waved my hands to emphasize my point as if all the no’s hadn’t made it clear.

He reached toward my face again with his shirt. “Stop swatting at me or you’re going to get more dirt in your eyes. Be still, Madeline.”

I froze when he used my whole name. It was rare for anyone to use my full name and when he did, something odd happened in my stomach. He dabbed at my face while I tried to ignore the way my blood pressure rocketed with his proximity.

Review – Roman Crazy by Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci

We’re so thrilled to bring you BFF K’s Review of Roman Crazy by Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci! You’re gonna LOVE this book!

Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy—away from home and licking her wounds…and perhaps a gelato or two. But when Daisy, an American expat now living in Rome, throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop. She falls, quite literally, at the feet of a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.

Marcello is a man from her past—the man, the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and the life she once had and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious.

And so is Marcello…

Avery slips easily into the good life that is summertime in Rome. She spends her days exploring a city that would make art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over a whirlwind what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could it really be her life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twinset cardigans and crustless sandwiches?

This is a dream team! Alice Clayton and Nina Bocci have paired up to deliver an absolutely wonderful, heart-warming, sweet and steamy story of second-chance love. And you need to read it!

The first chapter is so fantastic; this story bursts out of the gates and introduces you to Avery, the fantastic heroine. Her soon-to-be ex-husband and his mother are something else! When her world turns upside down, Avery escapes to Rome and the comfort of her best friend, Daisy. It takes just hours for Avery to get knocked on her a$% (literally) by the one man she thought she would never see again. Enter Marcello, one of my favorite Book Boyfriends of 2016! He’s everything you hope for: a strong, sweet, seductive, hunky hero. And, you’ll find yourself falling just as quickly as Avery.

Roman Crazy is a wild ride of ups and downs as Marcello and Avery rediscover one another, put their past in its place and determine if and how they can move forward together. The book is chock-full of wonderful supporting characters. The sites, sounds and tastes of Rome are so beautifully described that the city becomes another character in this already superb cast. Roman Crazy is full of romance, friendships and self-discovery. Second-chance love is one of my most favorite Romance tropes and Roman Crazy is one of the best!

From the New York Times Bestselling Author of The Resistance comes this new STANDALONE contemporary romance.

Because first love deserves a second chance

One month.

One movie.

One shot at a second chance.

I fell madly in love at first sight with Jane Lewis.

The girl with bright green eyes, a pretty smile, and great ass owned my heart. I thought she was happy with the status quo, but ten years later, I foolishly let her go. Despite dating other women, no one compares to my first love. We are meant to be together, and I’m going to try my damnedest to convince her of that.

Luke Anders tricked me.

The deal was sealed before I knew he was behind it.

We agreed to be just friends. Simple. Easy. But it’s not just the weather that’s hot in Texas. I was a fool to think I could resist him. He knows how to work his charms and those kissable lips, that great jaw, and biceps. We are here to work, but he has become downright distracting.

I’m strong. I can handle one month of his flirtatious sexual torture. But if I happen to fall in bed with that sexy bastard for a night, or three, does that make me weak? Asking for a friend, of course.

I guess I’m about to find out when love gets messy, it’s not just the talk that’s dirty.

BFF K’s Review of Dirty Talk

Luke Anders is a dirty talker and those scenes are the very best part of this book. He’s swoony and stubborn and oh so sexy! Jane Lewis is more that just his first love, or even the girl that got away. She’s everything that’s missing from his life and he sets plans in motion to bring them together for both work and pleasure.

There is so much angst and tension in this book! Ugh! I wanted to reach into the pages and slap both Luke and Jane. I just wanted them to get over themselves, be honest with each other and tell the truth (the whole truth and nothing but the truth.) If you’re a fan of angst and tension, this is a book for you! The best parts of this book are the deliciously steamy scenes and moments when Luke and Jane are really and truly, honestly connecting with one another and re-kindling their love affair.

If you’re looking for a second chance romance, full of tension and a delightful, dirty-talker this is a one-click wonder!

Excerpt

~Jane Lewis~

The panic subsides and then reality hits me.

Luke Anders is right next door to me. For a month.

I’ve only been here for a minute or so and I’m sweltering. The air hasn’t cooled me off so I pull my shirt away from my sticky skin. A knock on the window makes me jump; my hand instantly covers my heart.

Luke steps away from the car with his hands up in surrender. He mouths, “Sorry.”

Shaking my head, I take another quick breath to calm myself, and push the button that slides the window down.

“Sorry about that. I didn’t realize I was sneaking up on you.”

“It’s okay,” I reassure him, my heart racing—from his close proximity or from being startled I’m not quite sure.

When I open the door, he opens it wider and I get out. I can’t help but take him in, my breath escaping me just like the first time I ever saw him. He’s stunningly handsome, maybe even more so. Definitely more so. One month without seeing him and now he’s trying to kill me. His rugged good looks, the T-shirt stretching across his broad, hard body, and a week’s worth of beard growth makes me want to rub my fingers and other things on it to see if it’s rough or soft.

In a word?

Damn. Hot.

Fine, two words, but he’s worth breaking the rules for.

And just like that, all my better senses fly out the window. “Have you been working out?” I regret saying it the second I do. I regret it doubly when that cocky smirk that made me fall in love with him appears, transforming his entire attitude.

He pops a bicep for me, and replies, “I’ve gotten in a little gym time recently.”

“Well, it shows.” Shut up, Jane. I wave my hand in the air, unable to control myself. “I’ve got a VIP ticket to the gun show. Any idea where I might redeem it?” What the hell am I doing? He drives me nuts and I fall for it every time.

Luke laughs. Pretending to take the imaginary ticket, he stashes it in his back pocket. One arm goes out and then the other. “Bam. Bam! Check these babies out.”

Now I’m a giggling mess. Running my hand over one then the other, I smile. “It was worth every dime I spent on that ticket.” I squeeze his muscle.

He laughs and drops his arm. “And how many dimes did you spend?”

“Ten shiny dimes for each.” I walk around to the back of the car and open my trunk.

Luke chuckles even harder. “Glad you got your money’s worth then.” He comes around and grabs the large suitcase out, setting it on the sidewalk and pulling up the handle.

I reach in the backseat and pull out the last box, but he moves in and grabs it for me. “Take the suitcase. I’ll carry this for you.”

Rolling the suitcase behind me, we walk along the sidewalk back to the hotel as if we’re friends, as if we haven’t hurt each other’s hearts. I ask, “What were you doing out here?”

“Getting coffee. I heard Jo’s is great. It’s next to the hotel.”

“I could use one. The drive was exhausting.”

He walks one step to the side and behind me. “Why did you drive?”

“I wanted to have a car.” I hate lying, especially to him, but I’m not ready for him to know I don’t have a place to call home anymore or a place to store my car in LA for a month. I’ll have to face the fact of my reality once this film wraps, so I choose to hide my eyes and stick with the white lie.

A silence pervades the journey as we walk through the courtyard. I stop in front of my door. Looking to his, I wonder if he realizes the relation of the two. Turning back to him, his smile is much nicer, more the sweet boy I once knew. I still struggle with what to say, so I awkwardly shift, and signal to the door behind me. “This is me.” I unlock the door, and step inside.

“Right next door.” He follows me inside. After setting the box down on the table, he looks around the room. “Just like mine. It’s nice we’ll be neighbors.”

“Quite the coincidence.”

“Maybe. Maybe not.”

“Maybe not?”

“Could be fate, Janie.”

“You never believed in fate.” I sit on the bed just as some of the old feelings come swirling back in the quiet of the room.

“I believe in destiny these days.”

About the Author

New York Times and USA Bestselling Author, S. L. Scott, was always interested in the arts. She grew up painting, writing poetry and short stories, and willing her days away lost in a good book and the movies.

With a degree in Journalism, she continued her love of the written word by reading American authors like Salinger and Fitzgerald. She was intrigued by their flawed characters living in picture perfect worlds, but could still debate that the world those characters lived in were actually the flawed ones. This dynamic of leaving the reader invested in the words, inspired Scott to start writing with emotion while interjecting an underlying passion into her own stories.

Living in the capital of Texas with her family, Scott loves traveling and avocados, beaches, and cooking with her kids. She’s obsessed with epic romances and loves a good plot twist. She dreams of seeing one of her own books made into a movie one day as well as returning to Europe. Her favorite color is blue, but she likens it more toward the sky than the emotion. Her home is filled with the welcoming symbol of the pineapple and finds surfing a challenge though she likes to think she’s a pro.

Review – Bad Judgment by Meghan March

Bad JUD Cover Front

He’s so arrogant.

She’s so self-righteous.

I can’t stand him.

I want her.

He’s a distraction I don’t need.

She’ll say yes eventually because I’m not giving up.

Justine Porter is stuck between a rock and a stripper pole. She lost her law school scholarship, which means she has two choices to keep her life on track: strip for her tuition or tutor the most distractingly sexy guy in her class—the one she’s been turning down for two years straight. It should be an easy choice, but tutoring Ryker Grant could derail her plans to graduate with honors faster than two-for-one night at the Déjà Vu. Then again, topless has never really been her color.

She could take the easy road, just this once . . . but the deal has enough loopholes to trip anyone up.

BFF K’s Review of Bad Judgment

rating_5_80

Bad Judgment is a terrific new adult book and the law school setting is intriguing in both place and purpose. Knowing that the author is a former attorney makes the book even more interesting.

Ryker and Justine are the perfect hero and heroine for this delicious enemies-to-lovers storyline. I absolutely loved both of the main characters and all of the supporting characters. Bad Judgment is a quick read, but full of goodness! I don’t want to give away any of the narrative, but know that the book brings everything promised in the synopsis and so much more!

Bad Judgment delivered everything I’ve come to expect from Meghan March! It’s smart, well-written, full of endearing characters and unique plot twists. There are plenty of steamy scenes, but they’re built around the plot and just perfect for the story. Meghan March is an absolute one-click author for me; she never disappoints. Bad Judgment should absolutely be at the top of your TBR list!

“I’ve got some things I need to say to you, and you’re going to let me.”

Her brown eyes snap up to mine, surprise clear in them. “Why should I?”

“Because you’re nothing if not curious, and you want to know what I have to say.”

She steps backward, and I let my fingertips trail across her skin before they drop away. Justine adjusts the straps of her backpack on her shoulders and tucks Chewbacca into a side pocket.

“You know you want to hear the rare sound of me apologizing, don’t you?”

Justine purses her lips, and all I can think about is the dreams I had all weekend of her staring down at me from a stage while she danced and stripped. My own private show. I’m not going to admit how many times I jacked off to the mental picture. I need the real thing, and I won’t have another shot if she won’t even give me a chance to talk to her.

I don’t know what changes her mind, but she relaxes her posture and relents. “Fine. You’ve got five minutes. This better be good.”

It’s not much, but I’ll take it. I lead the way out of the classroom, slipping out the side door I used to make my unobtrusive entrance. Or at least, it was unobtrusive until I decided to share my strike-out history with the entire class at Professor Turner’s invitation.

Glancing behind me, I’m marginally surprised to see Justine actually following. I head for the third-floor doors to the library, where the private rooms are. This conversation isn’t for public consumption.

The first private room on the right is empty, so I push the door open. Justine trails me inside, and I shrug off my backpack and drop it on one of the four chairs.

She closes the door behind her and leans against it, her arms crossed over her chest. I’m guessing she wouldn’t stand that way if she realized how it draws attention to her chest. I force my eyes back to her face. I’m not about to fuck this up.

“Wow, you must really plan on groveling if you need privacy,” she says, an eyebrow raised in challenge.

“Maybe I just wanted to get you alone.”

She rolls her eyes. “And I’m already getting bored.”

“You love to bust my balls, don’t you?”

“I don’t really like to think about your balls, if you want to know the truth.”

I try on my charming smile, the one that has dropped panties for years. “I’m calling bullshit on that. You’ve thought about me at least once.”

She pushes off the door and turns halfway to reach for the handle. “And if that’s all you wanted to say, then I think we’re done here.”

“Wait.”

I’m shocked when she listens.

Justine rubs her hands over her face, her every move revealing her frustration. “You ask me out for two years, practically blackmail me into a kiss, then you blow me off completely, and now you’re all up in my business again. What the hell do you want from me?”

Her confusion punches me in the gut, making me wish I could tell her why I wasn’t there the morning I promised to help her move. It wasn’t for any reason she thinks.

I stride toward her, pressing one palm against the door beside her head. “I’m not blowing you off, and I haven’t stopped thinking about that night.”

“Then why—”

I can’t give her the explanation she wants, so I try something different.

Lowering my head, I catch the next words out of her mouth on my lips. They’re just as soft as I remember, and I drop my other hand to her hip, drawing her against me. Her fingers curl into the fabric of my T-shirt, almost reluctantly, but she’s not pushing me away.

I take her mouth, my tongue diving between her lips to taste her again—finally, but the pulsing of my dick against the zipper of my jeans forces me to back off. If I don’t, I’ll be laying her out on the table behind us, and that’s not what this is about. At least, not all of what this is about.

With her face flushed and her hair messy from my fingers, Justine shutters her expression. She’s rebuilding her walls brick by brick.

That’s not going to work for me.

“What’s it going to take, Justine?” I remember asking her the same question at the bar.

Her dark eyes fill with confusion. “What’s what going to take?” The words come out defensively.

“With you. To get a second chance. I fucked up once, but doesn’t everyone deserve another shot?”

Review – Luck, Love & Lemon Pie by Amy E. Reichert

From the author of the “clever, creative, and sweetly delicious” (Kirkus Reviews) The Coincidence of Coconut Cake comes a novel about a frustrated wife and mother who hatches a scheme to reignite her marriage—and risks everything in a gamble she hopes is a sure bet.

When Milwaukee-area wife and mother MJ Boudreaux notices her husband Chris seems more interested in the casino than her, she’s more bothered that she isn’t upset than by her husband’s absence. She picks up poker as a way for them to spend more time together—and reignite their marital flame.

BFF K’s Review of Luck, Love & Lemon Pie

rating_4_80

Luck, Love & Lemon Pie is a well-written book with thoroughly developed characters and a unique storyline. It is a women’s fiction book and not necessarily the standard romance that I typically read. I enjoyed the story, but was somewhat disappointed that the premise failed to capture my attention or my heart in the same way as Reichert’s previous work, The Coincidence of Coconut Cake.

MJ is desperate to reclaim her marriage. She has felt her husband slipping away and she will try anything to re-kindle the spark that used to exist between them. In a somewhat desperate attempt, MJ takes up her husband’s favorite hobby. But, soon her plans of spending a few hours next to each other at the poker table dissolve into endless afternoons and evenings sitting solo at the felt. MJ sees her marriage slipping though her fingers and knows there’s no way to bluff her way out of the mess she’s in.

The strength of Luck, Love and Lemon Pie is the writing. Reichert crafts beautiful sentences and weaves interesting tales from mundane settings. The build-up to MJ’s Las Vegas experience is slow-going and Vegas is the most active part of the story. The book was interesting in the way that it accurately paints a picture of the complacency that can settle on a marriage. The book sometimes drags in the same way that the day-to-day tasks of marriage and motherhood can seem to drag as well.

Overall, Luck, Love & Lemon Pie is a solid piece of women’s fiction and a relatable read for anyone who has been married for a length of time. If you’re looking for a relatively romance-free book that still explores the lives and loves of an interesting female character, this is a good choice.

About the Author

Amy Reichert earned her MA in Literature from Marquette University, and honed her writing and editing skills as a technical writer (which is exactly as exciting as it sounds). As a newly minted member of the local library board, she loves helping readers find new books to love. She’s a life-long Wisconsin resident with (allegedly) a very noticeable accent, a patient husband, and two too-smart-for-their-own-good kids. When time allows, she loves to read, collect more cookbooks than she could possibly use, and test the limits of her DVR.

Review – Cream of the Crop by Alice Clayton

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton brings her trademark blend of funny and sexy to this second contemporary romance in the brand-new Hudson Valley series!

Manhattan’s It Girl, Natalie Grayson, has it all: she’s a hot exec at a leading advertising firm, known industry-wide for her challenging and edgy campaigns. She’s got a large circle of friends, a family that loves her dearly, and her dance card is always full with handsome eligible bachelors. What else could a modern gal-about-town wish for? The answer, of course, is…cheese.

Natalie’s favorite part of each week is spending Saturday morning at the Union Square Farmer’s Market, where she indulges her love of all things triple cream. Her favorite booth also indulges her love of all things handsome. Oscar Mendoza, owner of the Bailey Falls Creamery and purveyor of the finest artisanal cheeses the Hudson Valley has to offer, is tall, dark, mysterious, and a bit oblivious. Or so she thinks. But that doesn’t stop Natalie from fantasizing about the size of his, ahem, milk can.

Romance is churning, passion is burning, and something incredible is rising to the top. Could it be…love?

BFF K’s Review of Cream of the Crop

rating_5_80

I want a hot farmer and so will you as you read through the Hudson Valley Series! Alice Clayton delivers an absolutely delicious treat with her story of Oscar the Dairy-Man and Natalie the ad-(wo)man.

Oscar is a man of few words, but it’s easy to see that there is a depth of character beneath his gruff and gorgeous exterior. Natalie is one of the best heroines that I have read in quite awhile. Natalie is a ‘bigger girl.’ But, her size doesn’t come-off as token or pandering. She is a beautiful, successful and confident woman; and she owns both her curves and her cleverness in a way that leaves no apologies. It is such a refreshing approach and completely endearing.

On paper, Oscar and Natalie may not seem to be a perfect fit. But, they find a way to be perfect for each other. There are times when you will want to shake them both because they can’t seem to get out of their own way. But those frustrations make way for reasonable plot lines, sultry resolutions and plenty of LOL moments. Cream of the Crop is a well-crafted story that is whipped and sweetened to perfection! I’m already looking forward to my next visit to the Hudson Valley!
